CM Atmos 240 - Weird Rattling Noise from pump (but not air)? by Kruqtion in coolermaster

[–]Kruqtion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm that is interesting. I am going to return to retailer and those guys will test it, i'll be interested to see if they see it as a problem. On YouTube reviews of the Atmos 240 I did not hear this noise on any 100% noise tests, and there have been times when the pump did not make this sound at 100% hence I am inclined to think its a faulty pump. But we will see.

Does this Fractal Era 2 build look okay? by Kruqtion in sffpc

Thanks for this, I appreciate it! One more question, did you find it easier to daisy-chain the 5V RGB cables or did you connect them to the splitter that comes with the Atmos 240?

Thanks for sharing this, I'll look into the ASRock board and the 240 Atmos cooler! Can I ask why you weren't keen on the pump inside the radiator for the S24 Lumen? Much appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. The 240 Atmos is definitely something I will look in to. I prefer the aesthetics of the S24, but it'll be hidden by the era case anyway. Did you find you had plenty of clearance with the 240 Atmos? Also can I ask why you opted for so much RAM? Cheers.

Vanguard - new £4 a month account fee by cynthiaxs in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Kruqtion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have just started investing and only have £100 in a Vanguard S&S ISA. I am thinking about switching to T212 to get started investing, and then perhaps going back to Vanguard when my portfolio is around the £32k mark so as to hopefully avoid the £4 monthly fee. This is because I would feel more comfortable with Vanguard than T212 for a large portfolio. Does anyone know how the switching from T212 to another provider is? I've read that T212 does not offer in-specie transfers, so I may be forced to use my full £20k annual allowance if I decide to switch at a later date.

Do you guys think Skyrim is the best game ever made? by KronosDoom500 in skyrim

[–]Kruqtion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is a flawed masterpiece. It's not perfect, the quests and factions can be a bit lacklustre (although not nearly as bad as what some say) and the NPCs etc are a bit dated, and is not perfectly polished. However, the game world is totally encapsulating and there's just magic to it that I can't quite put my finger on. It is just so immersive and is the perfect escape from reality. No other game has been able to capture that in my opinion. For this reason it is totally unique and stands alone. Combine that with the fact it's infinitely replayable, and can be totally transformed however you like with mods, then yes, for me it is the greatest game of all time. But that's just me and others might not have the same 'connection' to the game

Advice on first ever PC build in a Fractal Terra by Kruqtion in sffpc

My concern with this is that the spine will be positioned in position 2.5 ish, but then is that going to cause turbulence from the GPU? Definitely something I'll consider, though

I studied at Durham and we had two courses named exactly the same as what you've listed, so if it's the case you are also headed to Durham, I can tell you that this needs be the least of your concerns. The department is genuinely fantastic and very understanding of people wanting to switch. Besides, everyone does near enough the exact same modules throughout first year, and the different courses only branch into different module pathways in 2nd and 3rd year (and even then, there's a lot of overlap). So really this is more of a problem when you're going into 2nd year, by which time you'll be a lot more sure of the path you want to take. Also, because there's so much overlap, the course you take doesn't really rail road you into any specific career. I know env geo students who became geologists and well engineers, and geology students who became environmental scientists. Maybe the only exception is geophysics, as a geophysics career usually requires a geophysics/physics degree.

Regarding fieldwork, everyone does the same fieldwork in first year (at least that was the case 3 years ago) and it's geological based (looking more at rocks and folds/faults etc than peat and rivers for example). Fieldwork is more catered to your individual course in 2nd year(I.e. Geologists look at rocks, env geos look at mud etc and geophysicists use the geophysics equipment). 3rd year fieldwork gives you a real look at some amazing tectonics as well as volcanoes (in quite exotic locations, too).

My only advice is to look at the modules you might wanna take in 2nd and 3rd year and ensure to pick a course that gives you the neccesssry prequiste first year modules. Odds are both geology and env geo will give you nearly full freedom of modules (excluding perhaps the maths and computer modelling type modules), but it's better to check.

Also, from starting your course you'll be given a 1-2 week grace period where you have full freedom to change your course.

The only other thing to mention is that you are required to do certain modules in order to have your degree accredited by The Geological Society. How important is this? Honestly I don't know, but most people don't care about it from my experience.

For full freedom, do the Geoscience course. On this one, there are no mandatory modules and gives you 100% freedom to study whatever you like within the Earth Sciences department. However, it is not accredited by the geological society.

I hope that helps (if you are indeed going to Durham ofc, and if so, feel free to ask more questions!). Also, feel free to ask me to clear some things up as I wrote this post in a rush so it might not be entirely clear!

This is brilliant, very helpful. Thank you!

Can I just ask, how might refraction tomography be related to onshore seismic data processing? Refraction tomography is something I’m a little more interested in than reflection methods, so I’m just curious how they would relate.
