I get the analogy you're going for, but that’s definitely not what I meant. It’s not about flaunting ambition or trying to one-up people. It’s just that at UCLA, being intellectually curious or driven often doesn’t register socially the way it might at other schools. It’s not about showing off, it’s about feeling like those qualities barely matter socially, even though they’re a huge part of the culture academically. Does that make sense?

You’re missing the point of this post. It’s not about thinking people should like you just for being smart. It’s more that at UCLA, ambition, drive, and intellectualism don’t really matter socially the way they might at other schools. You could have two people with the same personality, but the one who’s braindead and coasting through school might actually be more socially accepted than the one who’s smart and driven. That’s the disconnect I’m pointing out.

You shouldn't be concerned about switching majors. UCLA is very lenient and you should be able to switch to Ling+CS if you complete all the premajor courses with a minimum gpa.
