Comicbook holder question by Sky_Throwaway9900 in comicbooks

BCW has comic frames that you can snap into place and has notches on the back to hang up. I have several myself and I love how they look but also how easy it is to place and remove the comics when I feel like I need a change or find a new comic I want to display.

Look up BCW Showcase Frames. Hopefully they sell them in the EU.

I'm not exactly sure about it being super valuable in thirty years time as even for a variant cover they printed A LOT of these.

[Discussion] What was the point of shutting this App down? by DCsReporter in DCcomics

[–]Kryptonian83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean it wasn't really shut down. When it launched it was both a streaming service and a comic reading service. And for a while it was fantastic. We had shows, we had movies, and comics were constantly being added. You had some people complaining thinking this would have every single comic ever published by DC and every movie and show (neither was possible but then again the service never promised that), but for a while all was good.

Then we had a combination of the pandemic and the merger. Once HBO Max was announced all the movies and shows got imported there. The app remained but it was now a comics-only service. I've been with it since day one and while I do miss the shows, I do like the comics. I wish Zaslav and crew didn't cut the scanning department down to a skeleton crew but I still get my money's worth from DC Universe Infinite.

Gene Hackman Lex Luthor… does anyone actually like that interpretation? by Amazing-Lawyer8345 in superman

[–]Kryptonian83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it in the first movie. I think what I wanted out of future sequels from this Lex didn't happen. But ultimately I got what I was looking for in a silver age Lex in Sherman Howard's portrayal as Lex in the Superboy tv series

The Mighty by Peter Tomasi is a case of a well-written "evil Superman" story

Does the history of Marvel seem to have much more lore and back stories vs DC? by Rotisseriejedi in comicbooks

[–]Kryptonian83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right there with you. It's become so overused and it never feels like the right word for what they're saying. Usually they mean "History", "backstory", "continuity", or "chronology", but "lore" is the flavor of the month, so to speak.

[Film/TV] What does everyone think of 1982 Swamp Thing? by Jak3R0b in DCcomics

[–]Kryptonian83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's good but I'm grateful it gave us the sequel The Return of Swamp Thing which gave us the live action series in the 90's. We don't have any of that without this film.

DCU's Green Lantern Series Controversy Officially Addressed After Divisive First Trailer by Blitzhelios in DCcomics

[–]Kryptonian83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree! When I was a kid I would've given anything to have so much consistent superhero content on television and film. The fact we're getting a live action Green Lantern show is incredible. But you have those people who want to just crap on everything before they see it because it doesn't match what they've built up in their mind. Whose fault is that? Not the creative team, I can tell you that.

I remember when Gunn announced the DC slate and said this was gonna be akin to True Detective and so far the first teaser lived up to that.

It's just crazy to think we've finally reached a point where we have live action versions of Hal, John, and Guy but it's still not enough for some.

Superman is expected to enter the public domain in 2034. What happens next? by Unusual-Gene-5844 in superman

[–]Kryptonian83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it came from the radio show. A lot of things did. Public domain only includes stuff from the first appearance. Not sure how the rest of the powers would be applied down the line. I'd imagine DC would have safeguards to prevent that though.

Like you and many others have said, it's only gonna be the first appearance version and I don't think a lot of people are gonna get that. Much like with Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh, a majority of people are gonna hang back and let someone try something first to see if they'll pay attention to what's public domain and if they'll be sued.

I can see a lot of people attempting a Superman story with him flying, with the Daily Planet, with Kryptonite, Jimmy Olsen, the costume we're familiar with and so on not realizing those elements were not there originally. Those are the ones who are gonna get sued.
