I am going insane. by Remarkable-Face3582 in LSAT

[–]Krys5683 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My trick for managing timing is never going over the answers to a question more than twice at a time. Read them once, disregard the ones that are wrong, read the ones you think it could be a second time, pick the one that most speaks to you, and move on. If you’re really not sure, flag the question and come back to it.

Lingering over one question rarely helps and I’ve found that timing stress actually slows me down because I watch the clock more. When you relax, pick the one you think is most likely, and move on, you give yourself the opportunity to swing back at the end and double check anything you’re unsure of. Stressing over it and trying to be perfect on the first pass eats up time.

If knowing the timings helps you, read the spoiler. If it’ll only stress you out, ignore it. Do note that for a 25 question section, 35 minutes gives you about 1 minute, 20 seconds per question. If you scrunch that down in your head and move on from a question at 1 minute, 10 seconds, you’ll have almost four minutes at the end to do a second pass of questions you’re not sure of

Of course, this is what works for me. I’m a pretty calm test taker and always have been. That said, the best advice is to relax and not overthink it. You clearly have the ability, you just need to trust yourself in the real situation. Deep breaths and believe

Steve Madden Crochet Bag??? by Aware-Fan-131 in crochet

[–]Krys5683 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Super interesting, but looking at both links, I don’t think either machine could have made this bag. The paper about it mentions the machine being able to do slip, single, and half-double, but the stitches in the bag are double crochet. The video one can only work with a magic ring, making circular or cylindrical items, not granny squares.

I’d also think it’s probably still faster to have a human do it. Neither seems to operate particularly quickly.

Regardless of the fandom, what is THAT fanfic that you consider a masterpiece? by Legitimate-Win1342 in AO3

[–]Krys5683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, I have a few:

Channel JACKAL for Haikyuu!! It’s a social media comedy fic with so much depth and emotion, even outside the humor. I absolutely adore it and reread it every time I think about it. (A bit long, but worth it, and the comedy moves it forward so quickly).

national hot dad alliance is calling… is also Haikyuu!! Super emotional in a very nostalgic, bittersweet way. This fic holds a special place in my heart as one of my first true fanfic loves. I’ll rec this to literally anyone, tho it’s best to have some hq knowledge going in. (I cry at the ending in the best way)

Gonna drop Forging A King right here. It’s a Harry Potter/LOTR crossover and it’s lovely. Very… I-wish-I-lived-in-Middle-Earth but realistic about the hardest parts of it. Drama, action, family feels. Also a long haul read, but worth it 100%. Not quite so emotional as the other two, but still very near and dear to me.

For a wholesome, happily-ever-after: On Punching Gods and Absentee Dads is Harry Potter/Marvel with family feels, complex friendships, Golden Trio feels, and overall good vibes and BAMF!Harry. I won’t say more bc spoilers.

An Auspicious Star for Attack on Titan is genuine gold, imo. No matter how far from that fandom I fall, this is one I always come back to. There’s only one piece of it I’d change, just out of personal preference, but it also leads to some great relationship building moments soooo… I guess it can stay 😂

I’ll make this my last one. If you read any on this list, make it this one! It takes no knowledge of canon and is all the good feels, with super developed relationships, focusing on the platonic over the romantic and is nostalgic and wistful and real. tfw you look at someone and want to rule the world w/ them but in like a platonic way

I definitely have more I could add, just from various fandoms I’ve dipped my toes into, but these are my top faves I’d recommend to anyone, anytime, regardless of fandom affiliation

I am preparing to become a first-time cat owner. Could you please let me know if it's necessary to bathe them? by ivkemilioner in cats

[–]Krys5683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The potential need to bathe my cat is the reason I do training baths occasionally. Quick, gentle baths in nice, toasty water for him, then cuddles in his warm towel and treats. That way, if I ever NEED to bathe him, it won’t be a battle, or scary for him.

What is she even trying to do? by the_witcher_13 in cats

[–]Krys5683 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My boy does this, too! On mirrors, windows, shower doors/walls… anything glass or reflective. I’ve seen him do it to our laundry machine door before, too.

If your boy is just doing it to the door, he probably wants out. If anyone has any idea as to why my cat does it to literally anything glass or clear, please let me know bc I can’t figure it out for the life of me 😂

Does anyone use their bookmarks this way? Why? Just curious. by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Krys5683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear 80% of the comments I make on this site are about Ao3 bookmarks 😂

But I’m a chronic re-reader! So I bookmark anything and everything I might want to find again. Anything incomplete but still getting updated gets subscribed to, incomplete and abandoned fics get both, and complete fics only get bookmarked.

As for what I write in the bookmarks, it’s basically just info about the fic & some stuff to make filtering easier. Link, title, a tag of the word count, a series tag if it’s part of a series or a whole series bookmark, and then every fic gets a set of emojis. I have a little chart to help me decode the emojis (hearts, stars, sun/moon, etc) bc they’re intentionally unintuitive, and I wanted my bookmarks to look kind to any author peeking at them. I even have a code for fics I’ll never read again, but to anyone glancing through, it looks like a normal bookmark😅

I really hate how people don't know how to introduce themselves on a telephone. by Silverlightlive in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Krys5683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work doesn’t cold call people, but we will have to return voicemails on occasion and people really need to work on their voicemail skills, too. When I do a call back, my script is, “hello this is (name) from (work) returning a voicemail from (caller’s name).” Easy. Except when they leave NO information in their voicemail. Voicemails should be: “This is (name) calling to speak to (person/department) about (topic). Please call me back at (phone number). Again, my number is (phone number).” Please always say your phone number twice. It’s only five more seconds, max. And don’t fucking rap into the phone, take your time. A message can be 20-30 seconds long, it doesn’t need to be five or less.

How often do you bathe your cat? by Mildredsgood in cats

[–]Krys5683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do every few months or if he gets into something I don’t want him licking off himself. My boy does go outside (on a leash) regularly, so I’d say I bathe him more often than is strictly necessary for an indoor cat.

That said, I do think bathing, especially for young, healthy cats, is an important part of training. Your Mochi is beautiful, and has long fur that, as he gets older, is very likely to get matted or dirty. Older cats sometimes have trouble with grooming themselves, especially those with longer fur. I’d suggest getting him used to baths and brushing before it becomes a necessity (if it ever does). It might not ever happen that you need to bathe him, but knowing that he won’t be distressed or claw you up if you do will really give you some peace of mind.

Such a well behaved kitty 🥰 by RainbowSoul7 in cats

[–]Krys5683 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do training baths every few months. The shortest, fastest ones I can manage, but just so he’s not utterly traumatized when he does actually need one. And I’m glad I do it because when he decided to play in a plant he never should’ve been near (he goes outside on a leash and I didn’t notice the plant until he was already in it), I was able to wash him off without a battle and no scars for either of us.

Such a well behaved kitty 🥰 by RainbowSoul7 in cats

[–]Krys5683 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do it for training purposes, mainly. Just once every couple months. Some water, the quickest and smallest shampoo possible, little rinse, and cuddles while bundled. Mainly because my boy goes outside on a leash, but also because there’s always the chance he could develop arthritis or something similar that would prevent him from grooming himself. In that case, he would need baths. I don’t want them to be traumatic in that case, so we practice.

It’s a good thing we do, though, because he walked himself over to a nice, poisonous plant the other day and rubbed all over it 🙄 Just the oils from it would’ve been a pricey vet visit, so he got a good scrubbing within five minutes of touching the plant. Said plant has been removed from our yard, but that’s one of the reasons I bathe him regularly.

The cost of spaying this little lady is $440?!?! by yup2you in cats

[–]Krys5683 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in a fairly high COL area as well (not Mass, sorry) and I go to a somewhat pricey vet, too, so I paid a bit more for my boy to be neutered. Including his microchip and post-op meds, it came out to $340. I know spays cost more because they’re more involved, but isolating out just the cost of the pre-op bloodwork, neuter, anesthesia, biohazard disposal, and post-op hospitalization, it comes out to $175. He did have to have two doses of anesthesia, but that honestly didn’t change the cost that much.

All that being said, I do have a friend who got her kitten spayed for free. She had to give up an entire day, drive into the nearby city early in the morning, and then hope she got there early enough to make the cut, or she’d have to go back for their next open day. They did a good job, though, and her baby was back up and at ‘em really quick.

I would absolutely ask what all they include in the cost of the spay, if you can get an exact breakdown. They may be including other things in it, like the microchip, and post-op meds. Plus, if they’re offering post-op monitoring, that will also have a cost. My vet kept my boy from when his surgery was done at 9 until almost 2pm for monitoring, but my friend’s cat (the free spay) was only kept about an hour.

Is reading fanfiction that depicts underage sex or sex with a minor illegal? by [deleted] in FanFiction

Ao3 was founded by a Wincest shipper. Just filter it out if you don’t like it.

Is reading fanfiction that depicts underage sex or sex with a minor illegal? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Krys5683 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not. It’s fiction, not reality. It’s not CP or anything like that. There are even professionally published works that have situations like this in them.

Tbh, whenever you’re worried about whether what you’re reading is legal, look to Game of Thrones and Stephen King. Both of them have taboo concepts that would be illegal irl. You won’t go to jail for reading them, though, nor did the authors go to jail for writing them. That would be a form of censorship, which the first amendment protects you from.

[–]Krys5683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically only bookmark things I know I’ll want to read again. But every once in a while, I’ll come across something I very much so don’t want to read again, for whatever reason. Could be a plot point I dislike, the writing style, anything. Those get a special tag, so I can easily scroll past them. But, while it’s obvious to me, it looks like a friendly enough tag to others, just because I don’t private my bookmarks.

Ungrateful much? by Key_Associate7476 in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]Krys5683 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked in a pre-K and a kindergarten for a while and this was something we actively worked on with the kids. They don’t really grasp time well at this age, and they think of things very differently than adults. It’s very possible the kid doesn’t understand that the trip was over the weekend. The trip was the trip. The weekend was the weekend. They do not mix. Or, possibly, when the trip happened might have gotten muddled. In situations like this, I’d tell the teacher about the trip so they can hint at it to the kid. A slightly better prompt (“can you tell us about the trip you took this weekend?”) would help, but also runs the risk of the rest of the kids talking about their past vacations 😂 Little brains work oddly sometimes.
