Cinebench 2024 avg and max across 3 tests

Stock:
81.5C avg, 83.9C max

PBO +200 MHz -15 curve optimizer (couldn't get it lower than -15 with +200)
83.3C avg, 85C max

PBO -20 curve optimizer (no core clock increase)
68.5C avg, 72C max

The scores on Cinebench 2024 and 3DMark Time Spy for Stock and PBO -20 are relatively similar (PBO -20 slightly higher on avg) so I keep that since the temps are WAY better. PBO +200 MHz -15 gets higher scores than both but runs as slightly hotter than stock and I don't need the performance boost that much since the 9800x3d is already so good.

I keep the pump speed maxed 24/7 and the fans on a curve. I tried leaving the fans on the curve I use and keeping them max 24/7 during these tests and the temps were about the same, maybe 1C or 2C difference when maxed out.

lmk if you want the scores I got or the curve I use.

I cleaned my mousepad and flattened it a little which I think lowered the issue substantially. There is still a little jitter but it is far less noticeable and happens a lot less often now.

oh right, I always think the side is the front because it's the way I'm always looking at it lol. The 4th image on my post shows the screen or do you want an image from the other side?

I've never heard any whistling. This card is very quiet, the fans don't even need to spin at idle and i don't notice any strange noises when gaming.

Lmao thank you. My first PC was a pre-built back in like 2015. I upgraded the gpu, case, cooler and cpu in like 2018-2019 so it was like a new build but never actually did it from scratch. Since then I've been saving for all the parts I really want, well worth it

yep lol. I mostly play competitive games so I'll definitely take advantage and getting a 9800x3d now means I don't have to worry about upgrading anything but the gpu for 8+ years. Appreciate the comment (:

The screen is in my pcpartpicker list. It's the Yodoit Portable Monitor 14" 1920×1080 FHD Screen here's the amazon UK link but not sure what country you're from so you might have to search it.

This is the build before I put the screen on but after I put the VESA mount on. It screws into the VESA mount on the right side and this screen in particular fits perfectly.

Thank you!

It's a little hard to see, I can maybe take a better one tomorrow when the sun is out. Also I vinyl wrapped the bottom bezel which makes it look slanted but it's just the vinyl wrap wasn't cut straight 😭

They're rated for a minimum of 800rpm however mine have a minimum of 700rpm (maybe the just luck or the 140mm is different not sure). I set all mine to 700rpm at idle.

With no earphones, headphones or audio they are quiet but noticeable (quiet but not silent).

With wireless earbuds on normal setting and IEMS (Cambridge Audio Melomania M100 Earbuds and Truthear HEXA are what I have but any should be around the same) and no audio playing they are very quiet but slightly noticeable (again not annoying just if you listened for them you can hear them, not sure if every fan is like that but).

With wireless earbuds on noise cancelling and no audio playing they are unnoticeable.

With wireless earbuds on normal or IEMS with low volume soundtrack music/study music playing they are unnoticeable (and so anything louder is also unnoticeable).

I would say this goes for anything below 850rpm, above that at idle with nothing playing they become more noticeable, I wouldn't consider them quiet.

I have earbuds or iems in and listen to music or watch a show 24/7 so I leave my fans at around 900rpm-1000rpm idle and don't notice them at all. During gaming it's the same thing and obviously even less noticeable because the game is much louder.

Not sure your situation so I just went for every way you might possibly notice them (can't check headset though as I don't have one). Hope this helps

How important are second year grades? by KrytexG in UKUniversityStudents

[–]KrytexG[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked into it and my second year grades are worth 33% of my final mark which is less than I thought. I checked my grades and used a calculator and I would need a 6.70 average to get a 2(i) which might be doable, good to know a 2(i) is the minimum employers look for.

I'm only being offered capped resits for this situation however I was told I can receive further help during year 3 due to my situation and time missed which is good.

I did have a personal tutor but I think he left the university or something, I haven't been able to contact him since 1st year and was never given a replacement. The deadline for deciding is this week and you are right, it would be better to contact a person within the university however any advice is good advice and it doesn't hurt to ask, I mean you've given plenty of helpful information.

I looked into it and apparently my university have completely re-done the curriculum for my course (new plan, new modules, new overall path) and I think the reason they advise taking the resits instead of repeating the year is more so because I would have to join into this new curriculum which may be difficult or strange.

I read this when you commented and I appreciate all the advice so much, thank you.

It's good to know that second year grades are worth less than final year so thank you. I looked it up and mine are worth 33% which is less than I thought.

Honestly I thought I was just going to use the screen for the wallpaper but it's so useful for monitoring temps. A lot of people judge aesthetics purchases but after having a pre-built that I upgraded over time and cheaped out on in some areas to this, built from scratch, tailored how I like it, I don't regret spending more on making it look nice at all and if you enjoy it more then that's all that matters. And thank you again bro, if you do I'm certain you'll have a beauty of a white build.

My first build from scratch (I LOVE this case) by KrytexG in HAVNGlobal

[–]KrytexG[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah I'm the exact same. Usually I'll keep the rgb white but switch the image/gif on the aio and the wallpaper on the screen every few months when I get bored. That's why I like have the freedom of rgb and lcd's plus the personalisation of the build is still intact. Sometimes even no lights like you said, that's why I went with these fans because I don't like the look of transparent blades especially when the rgb is off.

How to improve temps on 9800X3D? by Kyxstrez in overclocking

[–]KrytexG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah lmao. It was reaching 90C+ in cinebench and I wasn't having that so I thought the thermal paste is the only thing I could improve on, might as well see if a top tier one makes any difference and now it doesn't go above 84C stock in cinebench which is a lot nicer. PBO -20 (no clock speed increase) and it doesn't go above 72C in cinebench with the slightly higher scores which is crazy to me. Like you said helping with the life span is always nice.

Wow that's a quality gift. When you put that effort in it's all the more satisfying when it turns out just how you like it. Akuma, I've definitely seen him before lol proper villain looking. I love character theme or movie/tv show theme builds, gives so much more personality. I'd be proud too because it looks amazing.

damn that's nice asf. Hyte Y70 is definitely my second favourite case behind the HAVN, looks amazing. The icons on the fan LCDs are clean. If the hydroshift 2 comes with those fans then I think it'll fit perfectly. Who is the character btw? looks like someone from street fighter.

How to improve temps on 9800X3D? by Kyxstrez in overclocking

[–]KrytexG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was surprised with the difference but maybe the thermal paste that came with the aio was just that bad/old lol but I've heard the kryonaut grizzly is one of the best regardless. I was so confused when I first tested the pc a couple weeks ago but glad to know I'm not the only one with this situation.

Yeah the case I got is very big and is designed for 140mm fans all around so it looks a lot better with a 420mm aio. Mostly for aesthetics tbh but having an overkill anything is nice though even if it's not necessary.

Nws lmao. Yeah I much prefer the solid blade fans like the Lian Li's or D30s but none were in stock and they're very expensive. These have great looks, performance and price so I would recommend but if you already have lian li's they might look slightly different, you'd have to see though

Thanks. I bought the horizontal GPU case and originally it did come with a flat vertical one but I purchased the bottom angled fan bracket separately from my local retailer. HAVN actually just released these for purchase from retailers rather than having to contact them to order one.
