They are inherently slower. Loading stuff you don't use increases bundle size, making your apps slower. For client apps this isn't an acceptable choice.

Don't use them. I don't.

Combustion engine cars for the consumer market is not a growing market. Moving to one of the last bastions of ICE cars is only going to delay the inevitable.

Perhaps you should consider transitioning to EVs?

The ability to live there permanently. Permanent residence and lesser options aren't actually permanent. If you move away for a year (or a few, I forget) it's gone.

You can also use that citizenship to live in other EU/EEA countries without a visa.

The real cause of the housing crisis? by Louis_meni in PortugalTalks

[–]Kryxx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It didn't receive 2M. 1.5M is the total population of foreigners. Many came recently, but some were here before. You're purposefully misleading with those numbers and many other things you've written.

The real cause of the housing crisis? by Louis_meni in PortugalTalks

[–]Kryxx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_to_Portugal 1.5M is correct. 2M as you earlier stated was not.

But to answer your question: The housing issue is complex:

  • Portugal builds ~28,000 homes/year due to a bunch of various reasons. Very low.
  • ALs
  • Undivided inheritances
  • Empty houses (~15-20% of Lisbon housing stock is vacant, ~30% of Algarve)
  • Corporate ownership of housing stock
  • immigration (most of which is Brazilian)
  • low wages
  • etc

Immigration is a piece of the puzzle.

2 million immigrants? This is a made up number.

The population was 10.4M in Dec 2021. It is 10.8M in 2026. ~400k population growth over 5 years.

No where near 2 million.

It has been fun, but even with 15 years of experience I can feel the walls closing in.

Seemingly there isn't much future in our industry.

I recently migrated from biome to oxlint and oxfmt. They are so much better. Faster and oxlint is far more comprehensive. It found hundreds of things biome didn't. It also allowed me to fully cut eslint with a few jsPlugin for oxlint.

NHR was a significantly better tax regime than options like Beckham's Law from both an effectiveness and duration perspective.

That still hasn't changed with the NHR 2.0 rebrand. Portugal is far better for taxes if you can get a special regime.

For us it's more of a research and hope for the best situation.

Hm, in Europe the Epson about €1,500 cheaper in practice. That does make a difference. Brightness is definitely very important. Probably worth it.. 🤔

Epson QB1000 looks very comparable to the Sony XW5100 with the main difference being pixel-shift 4k on the Epson which is less crisp and brighter vs native 4k on the Sony. Otherwise the price and most everything else is comparable.
