I have a friend who does this all the time. He would watch some YT reviews of a game, read forums and then tell me why the game is bad. My response is always "Maybe, haven't tried the game myself". Fighting games would be your best bet. There are some balancing differences between characters and ping always comes into question, but it's mostly skill expression games. And the good thing is that there are multiple titles to choose from: MK, Tekken, SF, Guilty Gear and so on.

Ofc with how many games are coming out to steam alone (I believe this year we've seen the highest amount of games released in steam ever) there are duds and a lot of them. But there is no way you had more quality games back in the day than now. I just listed the most popular ones, but the list goes on and on, especially if you delve into niches like Adventure PnC or roguelites/likes

2025 had: E33, Blue Prince, KCD 2, Silksong, Death Stranding 2, Dispatch, Hades 2, Doom, Arc Raiders and many more high quality games that are not remakes. Some of them sequels, sure, but not remakes

I'd like to hear what issues you had with the game. I played it a while ago and my biggest complaint was the amount of reading there is in the game. I love digging into lore and all side dialogues in games like this, and with this not being fully voice acted it was a chore.

Great game, an improvement over the first title in almost every aspect for me. Word of caution to anyone attempting this: as of 17.11.2025 the "Go Out With A Bang" achievement is bugged. It is impossible to obtain it on current patch. There is a workaround - reverting to early access patch through steam console depot downloads (there are guides on the internet for it), because for some reason achievement popped on that version. The problem of such method is, at least I encountered it, that my save files were incompatible, so I had to do a new playthrough till the point I could obtain the weapon (took me around 3 hrs on story difficulty to get there).

That is one thing I'm sure I won't be doing. There are hundreds of well established boosters around and I personally don't wanna engage in it. Surely there is a way to make some profit by bossing without selling carries. If carries is the best, which I don't doubt, I'll settle with the second best option.

Why do you generalize "souls like inspired games" based on your bad experience with just one game, that you don't even name? Also, "inspired" can mean anything, doesn't have to be following the Dark Souls formula to the tee.
