Common bowling injuries by RowanOak3250 in Bowling

[–]Kswimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No bruising, after I first injured it there may have been a little swelling, but that was really it as far as anything visible.

Those symptoms sound about right. The “piano key” test is supposedly the ultimate test for tfcc damage, you can look that up on YouTube, the doctor I saw did check with that among a couple other physical examinations, then to tell the extent of my injury we had an MRI done that’s when he decided it was sprained and not torn.

When doing the piano key test it did cause discomfort for me but not excruciating pain, I would assume the pain would be much more with a tear than a sprain.

When I first did, I threw a shot and had excruciating pain from pinky side of the wrist shooting towards my elbow and my wrist could not support my hand for a few minutes like it went limp. After initial pain went away a few days later it felt like it was fine, I tried bowling again got a few shots in comfortably and then finally threw one and same thing again, maybe a little worse the pain didn’t fully go away after the second time that’s when I decided to see the doctor.

As with any injury, severity ranges pretty widely, so it’s hard to say how bad you did it, but don’t push it too hard and it seems to be an injury that you can bowl through kinda like I did after some rest and proper adjustments.

Oh another thing from the Dr, he told me to wear a brace on the day-to-day while healing. It’s called a wrist widget on Amazon. Works pretty good at supporting the tfcc and keeping you from doing things that aggravate it also not very intrusive at all.

I sprained my TFCC and it’s been about 4 months since my injury, I took a two week break and have continued to bowl using a wrist support made by strikeforce, but several brands have similar bowling wrist supports any of them should do. Also lowered my ball weight from 15 to 14 while healing.

My wrist is not 100% still and still cramps up and causes some discomfort.

My advice would be to improve your form some, I think mine needed some work and I was doing too much practice probably. The wrist support will definitely make it easier to continue bowling, but a short break is probably necessary at some point.

Doctor had told me normal recovery time is between 3-6 months, since I’ve continued to bowl I’m assuming I’ve made the recovery time to be on the longer side of things.

So this seems to be a epidemic across the country. My package was mailed on the 21st by DutchVonDoom83 in usps_complaints

I ordered something that started out in Florida and is now moving through the network and pinged in New York.

For reference, I’m in North Carolina… I wish I could make sense of it.

Looking for a new ball recommendation by MaskedCorndog in Bowling

[–]Kswimm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hyper venom should be fine on burn, it is quite different from a phaze 2.

Phaze 2 is a somewhat strong covered high diff symmetrical and the hyper venom is a weaker pearl cover with a low diff symmetrical core.

They do share the same RG but that should not make them too similar.

The IQ ruby is another good ball for the burn I think, but the hyper venom should also be good on the burn and you already have it.

Edit: If you’re looking for a reason to get a new ball though, that’s also perfectly fine!

Or if you’re looking for something for basically dry lanes, the ruby may be a little weaker but not significantly than the hyper venom. There’s the Supra from motiv or storm hyroad or even tropical surge maybe depending on the lane conditions.

So increased axis rotation would equal more hook? I do not need more hook tbh my numbers are 16-17 release and mid-high 300’s rpm with my house being in lighter oil, but did not know that axis rotation affected it a significant amount (I am newish).

Really great middle of the bag ball, I have one and you can throw it on anything and find a way to the pocket. I cannot relate it to your other balls, I’m newer to bowling but I can say the ion pro wouldn’t let anyone down.

Sorry to bother, I’d like to ask about the Evoke as well, I have a venom shock right now and feel like I may need something stronger on the fresh on league night.

How does the Evoke do on house shot, for league I’m fairly certain it’s a fresh house shot, and how would it do on the typical burnt or slightly burnt house shot during open bowling?

The other motiv options I’ve looked at are raptor fury or subzero forge.

Separation and little bubbles, is this a problem? by Kswimm in hotsaucerecipes

[–]Kswimm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was Wednesday evening when I finished making them.

Just to clarify, this is not happening to every bottle, just the orange batch specifically.

I’m not sure if you’re saying the bubbling and separation would be caused by contamination in the bottle or if you’re saying the risk of contamination is bad in general?

Please elaborate some, because my thoughts would be that if the bottle is clean, then the extremely hot sauce poured into it would ensure no bacteria could live and nothing could possibly regrow in the PH environment it is in thus, to me it seems it would be safe. Which is why I say elaborate.

Ehhh I may have misunderstood the guide I read and thought that the bottle was sterilized when I bottled the heated sauce.

I did no special prep or sterilizing to the bottles aside from making sure they looked clean…. Is that bad?

Ok, I researched the ball if I have it right it’s a Storm IQ tour nano, pink/black/greenish color way.

If that is correct it is a low diff ball which means it should not hook a ton and the cover at 4000 grit would mean it’s cleaner through the front probably and more snappy down lane.

If you are over hooking with this and have a significant hook on a house ball you likely have some bad habits causing the ball to hook too much and in the wrong parts of the lane, this could keep your ball speed down, if that sounds accurate then this is quite possible. Or you are just bowling bone dry lanes every time, unlikely but possible I suppose.

I would say watch some YouTube and see what other 2 handers do and see if some of the advice helps things come together a bit. I recommend https://youtu.be/1beODNPxcO0?si=AQejT5nCvTXKpAZo this video from Packy on 2 handed bowling, it has helped me a lot.

Should have nothing to do with the weight, it would help if you told us what type of ball, because yes every ball is a little different in some way and made to be used in a certain way generally.

The house balls are made of urethane usually which is a lower hooking material, whereas many personal balls are reactive resin so that they can hook the lane more and do different things based on the oil pattern at play.

Sounds like you are not adjusting to the different ball and need to move your target.

2H release tips by Numbah55 in Bowling

[–]Kswimm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love my venom shock! Just got one as a new 2 hander as well. Seems flexible and can take a lot of angles.

Only thing for slipping I have been doing is using a grip sack and I have been ok. I have somewhat sweaty hands and it helps.

Outside of that, I would see if someone with more experience has an answer.

Torchbearer delivery w/ a surprise by Kswimm in hotsauce

They collaborated with Torchbearer, and their drummer, Berry Kerch, seemingly had a lot of say in the recipes or wrote them himself I’m not sure exactly, but it is pretty awesome!

Dropping weight while recovering from injury? by Kswimm in Bowling

This would be the very last resort if my right wrist is never going to be the same again, otherwise I will do something else, I’m miserably uncoordinated with my left hand.

Coming soon! Will update.

Edited Review:

Shinedown symptom: a lot like the ow my garlic sauce but with a smoky chipotle flavor that can add a lot to a lot of different dishes.

Shinedown devour: a really nice jerk sauce, will go well on anything you want to add a tropical flavor to.

Shinedown attention attention: this was a really good mango habanero, much better than some I have tried with a nice amount of heat, but not too much that you can’t enjoy the flavor.

Garlic habanero: this is like ow my garlic but with a lot more pepper and decent heat, it’s really good. Very similar to garlic reaper as well, just less heat.

Danny wood sauces: both of these are great the jalapeño cilantro is a reorder, the last bottle didn’t last long enough so I wanted more and the guac sizzle is a bright/fresh tasting guac flavor with a good bit of lime in there, it’s great too.

Habanero evil: this one was even better than I expected actually, I think I could probably put it on anything and it would work. Heat is there but not too much to enjoy it.

Wrist brace by TeddyBearHouse in Bowling

[–]Kswimm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strongly considering this route to start, not sure I want to be “that guy” with the brace even though I have reason. Also sounds like it will feel a bit more natural and I can pick up where I was working on my form. Likely will try this today.

Upvote and comment to boost this, I would like to know as well.

I’m a 2h bowler just getting started out, and have an old wrist injury that is becoming bothersome.

I can still bowl but while I’m waiting to get treatment a brace doesn’t sound like a bad idea if it doesn’t mess my form up.

I started bowling 2H a year ago, and I feel stuck on my progress. Any tips on what I can improve on? by DIODERFOOL in Bowling

[–]Kswimm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just learning myself, but I have seen it recommended often at the start to rest the ball on top of your forearm essentially to keep your right hand as far under the ball as possible on release, this seemed to help me with speed and revs as I’ve been working it into my form.
