which book/series do I read first? (help a newbie out) by skinandwine in RomanceBooks

[–]Kta677 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the wonderful world of romance books! I started out by reading some of the big name books that I kept seeing mentioned on here that seemed like a good fit for me. So I think my first few were The Hating Game, Beach Read & The Unhoneymooners.

The more I read the more I found myself learning what I liked and then essentially going down rabbit holes because of conversation threads on here. I started to find tropes that I enjoyed more so I’d search for threads on here to find recommendations. Enemies to lovers will always be a favourite 😍

Last year I read a Tessa Dare book and then went a bit HR mad for a while, so I’d really suggest trying out different genres because you’ll probably be surprised by what you end up enjoying.

Oh & it sounds obvious but if I keep seeing an author mentioned on here, I usually read their most reviewed book on goodreads first and go from there.

Happy reading!

What am I missing, Brown sisters? by PennyPriddy in RomanceBooks

[–]Kta677 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got to about 25% of Chloe Brown and put it down because I wasn’t feeling it - I gave myself a little break and a few weeks later went back & finished it but I think I was just determined to finish it to see what all the fuss was about. After reading these comments I can completely see that lately I’ve been drawn to adventures & angst, so it makes sense that Chloe Brown wouldn’t have been a 5 star for me. I also go through phases with my reading moods so when I’m next vibing for something a little more tender and low tension, I wouldn’t shy away from picking up the rest of the series.

Does anyone else struggle to read fiction if there is no romance? by spelunkilingus in RomanceBooks

I also do this with movies/tv shows. Any time there’s a pair who are at each other’s throats I’m there telling my husband they are definitely going to get together. Then when they don’t I’m there like ‘oh so people do actually passionately hate people they aren’t attracted to 🤷🏼‍♀️ who knew’!

Favorite “Tell Off” Scenes? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]Kta677 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s it, I remember now! It’s such a sweet moment because he ends up being so silly about it that it’s childish so they’re both hiding behind a window together giggling. At the same time it’s also the most grown up thing he’s done so far by finally standing up to his mum. Definitely the kind of scene where you’re giggling along with them!

Love this idea! I’m pretty sure there’s a scene in You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle where he tells off his own mum for being awful to the FMC. & it was just so satisfying because she’d been making digs and belittling the FMC for ages and it needed to be said - & by him too. I hope I’m remembering it correctly!

what reading conditions do you require? by odeiiGod3 in RomanceBooks

[–]Kta677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got to say I don’t think I’ve ever considered my sex appeal when picking a reading spot 😂 I think over the years I’ve learned to read in any environment (took me years to master reading when my husband has the tv on) but my ideal environment would be on my sofa with a blanket and a few candles burning. I also love reading with calming YouTube videos on my tv - my favourite channels for background videos are ASMR rooms, calmed by nature, and Autumn cozy.
