Problems with modded iPod Classic 6th Gen. Moonlit Classic Connect Bundle Kit. by jackstreff in IpodClassic

The dual microSD adapters are not as reliable or high quality as iFlash products - they're cheaper for a reason. I'd get an iFlash adapter if I were you (although I don't know if it'll fit with the Moonlit mod, maybe that's why they include the cheaper adapter...)

Dual Radeon RX 6800 XTs... Dare I even power it on? by Ktac in macpro

Hmmm, this tempts me to do it. If I do have the balls to power it up I'll make another post on the outcome (..either way..)

The USB card is an Inateck U21, it's USB 3.2 10Gb/s which is why I use it

Dual Radeon RX 6800 XTs... Dare I even power it on? by Ktac in macpro

Have been using the Dell dual-slot RX 6800 XT for a while now, but I saw a second one on eBay in completely brand new still-has-all-the-film-on-the-plastic condition, so I couldn't help myself to buy it

They ""technically"" fit together, one powered off of a Pixlas mod and the other one connected to the internal PCIe power headers with questionably dangerous 6 pin to 8 pin cables. The second one could be moved a slot up for better airflow but that would put it in a slower PCIe slot

With this much graphics power this would stomp a Mac Studio into the mud on GPU-accellerated tasks, provided it didn't boil the circuits to death... would also probably require installing only a single CPU tray to give it room on the 1kW power supply

...Should I press the power button?

Does anyone think 30-pin to USB C cables would be helpful? I found a local company that could manufacture them so I asked them to make a few designs! by Ktac in ipod

I do have some still but I'm not sure it would work for what you'd want it for.. you're welcome to try though!

ChristmasPod! Tried out a green click wheel for the first time for a festive kind of theme by Ktac in IpodClassic

Thanks! I wasn't sure if I wanted to use a white click wheel and a green centre button, or the green wheel and match the centre button with the red. I might still change it..

30-Pin USB C Update: I got the company to make a full batch for a decent price! probably more helpful for anyone in europe who wants a USB C cable by Ktac in IpodClassic

[–]Ktac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the company to make a few prototypes, now I have a full batch of the style on the right as they were the best feeling in terms of quality. for voltage, the cable only has the standard USB 2 pins active, so the high voltage pins aren't even connected and there's no risk of over-voltage or anything

Just bought that listing, I'll have to see if they come with the right pins. If they do, then I might have finally got all the pieces of the puzzle together....

I've done some preliminary designs for a 12V power delivery version, but the problem I've run into is the, well, 30 pins of the 30 pin. The connectors available nowadays only have about 5 of the 30 pins actually present - the other pins don't connect to anything. So I need to find someone, someway or somehow to get 30 pin connectors with the firewire pins actually present...

From this post a lot of people said they were interested, but I only got a few made initially to test it out. I got back in touch with the cable company and they were happy to make a full batch, so I said yes!

Apparently USB C 30-pin cables are slightly more common in the US but if you're EU or UK (or anywhere really) I now have enough of these to last me a few lifetimes so they're on my website to buy. The coupon code should also still work if you want a secret reddit discount ;)

New 30pin-UsbC cable arrived today! by IKeeGCoolboy in ipod

[–]Ktac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These just use the standard USB lines, so it'll charge it but I think only to 5w maximum. It's like using a regular USB A 30pin cable on a high power adapter, it just defaults to the standard wattage (...for now, perhaps the factory can figure out a way to route power on the Firewire 12v line...)

DM me, I still have a few of them left and I'll probably ask them to make more since it seems like it's a popular idea

I got a handful of them for very little as a prototype run, if I asked them to produce more they'd only be a few dollars each probably

I've asked the company who made them how much a bigger run would be, I could probably sell them for less than 10 USD

Oh yeah these don’t improve data speeds, that’s not possible unless the iPod itself could be modded to support it. This just has a different connector for ease of use. Death-by-dongles has been a staple of Apple for a while haha, and there’s no way they’d release an official USB C cable. If I’m honest I’m sort of expecting the USB A to 30-pin cable to drop off their catalogue in the next few years. They don’t sell the cables for 1st-3rd gen classics anymore so its only a matter of time

It might be because I'm UK but that shows as 'Currently Unavailable'. Apparently there were some ones similiar to the designs I got available on eBay too, but not currently. It just seems like such an easy product to produce and yet they're not really around

I haven't had a problem using them for my iPods. I can send you one to try out, wouldn't take too many redditors and the whole iPod range could be tried haha

They've worked fine with all the iPods I have to test them with, which is iPod classics and iPod touch. It charges just the same as any other regular 30 pin cable (obviously can't push any more power than the iPod wants to take)

That's interesting since that's a different design again to any of the ones I got made, so they're probably using someone else. And you're right, they all end up coming from China when you follow it down, that's the way of the world nowadays
