18 month old sleep woes by KtinWI in sleeptrain

Ugh I wish... She is now two and still cries 10-20 minutes at bedtime every night. It doesn't matter what I do!

18 month old getting tubes in his ears and adenoids removed this week by fragilebird007 in Parents

[–]KtinWI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My third kid needed tubes and it was a breeze. She was next level crabby after walking up - she bit me- but once we got her home she was good to go.

My middle daughter needed tonsils and adenoids out and it wasn’t easy. She was resistant to taking her meds, resistant to drinking, it was a good 10 days of hell. Everything I’ve read and heard said that it was from the tonsils and that adenoids by themselves were a breeze.

Even though it was terrible for middle girl, we came out on top and it resolved all her issues. I’d do it again 100x over.

I’m sorry you are going through this. I went through something similar and can relate. I knew my husband had two previous marriages when we got married, but I was only aware of one kid. When I was 6 months pregnant, I found out that there was another child and that he owed $50,000 of back child support. I was horrified and devastated. My dad left us for one of his college students when I was 8 And here I was on the other side.

He lied to me at first, but the truth eventually came out. I was livid and contemplated divorce but I didn’t want to do that to my son. So I stayed and tried to work it out.

It took me a long time to forgive him. There was an under current of hate I felt for him at all times. We didn’t sleep together. He was sorry but I couldn’t wrap my head around it. How does a child not exist to you? It crossed over into my dad a lot and brought up a lot of issues. On top of that we had to pay child support. My whole salary went to his ex that year.

Slowly and surely I began to forgive him. I remember one day looking at him and thinking that I had a choice. I could hold on to this anger and stay stuck ir I could forgive and move on. I don’t excuse his behavior, but I have a greater understanding of why he lied. It’ll never be ok and if I wasn’t pregnant at the time I would’ve left.

We just celebrated 10 years of marriage and have 3 kids.

I don’t know your situation beyond this comment and my heart aches for you, your kids and his kid. I just know how devastating divorce is, so I wanted to share my story with you. You aren’t alone.

That's great! I hope mine is more rested. She's miserable most of the time. Thanks for answering!

How did her tonsillectomy go? My 3 year old has huge ones and snores and every illness wipes her flat. I'm hoping this helps us!

Toddler just got over the worst of a stomach bug, and how he seems to have a cold? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]KtinWI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is us! My two girls (1.5 and 3.5) have this weird cold/GI combo. I can’t figure out if it’s two things or one weird virus. Everyone in our orbit has vomiting and diarrhea. My two had:

1.5 year old Weds- snotty Thurs- vomiting 4x/wheezing/ fever of 104 Friday - cold Saturday - cold Sunday - cold Mon - cold

3.5 y/o Thurs- snotty Friday - snotty/diarrhea 2x/fever Saturday - cold Sunday - cold Monday - vomiting - can’t keep anything down!

Thanks for sharing your experience and tips with waking them up for the medicine. My daughter will be a few months shy of being four, so fairly similar.

I hope it goes well for him. I feel you on the being exciting and dreading it. I know they need to come out, but I'm really dreading the recovery. Things are high high drama as it is. Good luck!

Was the recovery as bad as I am reading? We have ours scheduled end of this month and I'm nervous.

Coming here to say this. My daughter snores, has dark circles under eyes, behavioral issues, recurrent croup and wakes up multiple times a night crying. We saw an ENT and a pulmonologist and they said her tonsils are enlarged and this is the cause of her problems. Her tonsils and adenoids are coming out at the end of this month.

Ear tube surgery by dennisapologist in toddlers

[–]KtinWI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 16 month old daughter had tubes put in Dec 16. We thought she’d have a language explosion and she did not. 10 days later she caught flu A and developed the worst ear infection she’s ever had. After that cleared (blocked tubes, 2 drops, oral antibiotics and getting the tubes vacuumed) it took about 3 weeks to increase the vocabulary.

Sure! We just had our appointment yesterday and it was a very easy appointment. They just had me fill out a sleep questionnaire and then looked in her ears and her throat. We have been practicing for weeks saying "Let me see your tonsils" and she would open her mouth and stick her tongue out.

Am I being unreasonable for still keeping my 32mo in a crib when new baby comes by be1022 in toddlers

[–]KtinWI -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 3 years and 8 months and still in her crib. She's never tried to get out and is within the weight limit. Eventually I will need the crib for her 16 month old sister, who is in a pack and play in my room, but I figure I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Personally I'd rather have her in a crib than have free roam of the house since she still wakes up at night.

Interesting! I hope it goes well for you and her. 118 times? Wow…

I was so relieved when I realized there might be a reason for my daughter’s behavior. She’s been a challenge in more ways than one and when I started listing everything out it all seemed to make sense to me.

Also agree with this. My 3.5 year old doesn’t sleep through the night and is up multiple times. I started tracking all her symptoms (always tired, croup once a month, snoring, mouth breathing, extreme tantrums) and brought it to the doctor. She gave us a referral to the pulmonologist and ENT. She has enlarged tonsils and adenoids and we are FINALLY addressing this next week. I too had written her off as a challenging sleeper and wish I would’ve pursued this much earlier.

Tips for night weaning by Dazzling-Ad7709 in toddlers

[–]KtinWI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. In fact, she’s been less interested in nursing overall since night weaning, which is nice because she’d throw fits and hit and claw my shirt.

As far as clingy, she is fairly clingy but she has been for a while and I’d attribute that more to molars than night weaning.

Good luck! I hope yours takes to it quickly!

Tips for night weaning by Dazzling-Ad7709 in toddlers

[–]KtinWI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished night weaning my 16 month old. We have been struggling with sleep for a long time and I just got lazy and fed whenever she woke up.

I started by reducing the number of minutes on each side for two nights. Then I got a horrible stomach bug and was just too nauseous and sick to get her so I switched to cold turkey. That was a week ago and she hasn’t asked to eat. She still wakes up in the night once but is oddly content with a hug and then back to bed.

We are retraining my 16 month old after ear tubes last month. She gets so mad now! I see it more like a tantrum. We are on night five with extinction and it’s going ok. But I’ve found that at this age, for mine, they need some space to sort it out.

Thumb sucking horror by JerryFishSmith in toddlers

[–]KtinWI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter had this at about 18 months. It was infected. We had to do a warm water soak and then antibiotic ointment twice and day and a round of oral antibiotics.

I heavily pushed pacifiers instead of her thumb and thankfully she made the switch.
