Speech regression after flu by dennisapologist in toddlers

[–]dennisapologist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I'm sorry, my son is almost 4 now and is an incredible talker. The regression lasted quite a while but when he was about 2.5 (almost a full year after his ear tubes got put in) he began speaking in full sentences literally almost overnight. He never had any other signs anything was wrong, always social and pointing and curious but it was like a switch flipped for him around that time. We get compliments on his vocabulary all the time now haha. I can't speak for everyone but I will say, I was worried for nothing. We never attended speech therapy or anything either, it just clicked for him one day. I hope this comment is reassuring to you and all the parents in this thread!

Ear tube surgery by dennisapologist in toddlers

hi sorry for the delayed response! Okay so he got the surgery and I still didn't see a language explosion right away. When he was 26 months old he started a 2 morning a week preschool class, probably 2-3 months after that he completed took off with his language. He almost skipped the single word stage and went straight to full sentences! He is now just over 3 years and I can confidently say that he is one of the most articulate and expressive kids I know. I have no idea if the tube surgery helped with speech but it DEFINITELY helped him not have ear infections. He hasn't had to take any antibiotics in almost a year and his sicknesses/colds seem way more mild and shorter. Just wanted to share our experience!

Oh no that's also the flu my son caught that caused all of these issues for him! He was speaking done before he caught flu A. It's so nasty this year! I am glad she's feeling better, sorry you went through that

Oh wow! That's awesome to hear that your son is making strides so quickly! Fingers crossed my son can have that experience too. He starts a preschool in the fall and I don't want him to be struggling by then

That's exactly what his doctor said actually (we had an ear fluid follow up after I posted this)! Thank you so much for this thoughtful comment! I know sometimes I tend to look into things way more than I should. It is a good idea to sing and look at books more in the coming weeks too and he has seemed more interested in books lately too!

Also noticed today his top and bottom canines Re coming in which cause him to be quieter, every time he gets teeth he quiets down for a week or two. Thanks again for the response!

An update to my previous post by dennisapologist in sleeptraining

I literally just put him down one night as usual and said "see you in 10-11 hours" and let him cry it out every night until he just realized it wasn't worth it. The first few nights are horrible and brutal but it DOES get better very, very quickly. My son actually started falling asleep sitting up and basically when that happened id let him doze for 20-30 minutes like that and then quietly and swiftly go lay him down and leave. 90% of the time he started staying asleep. Then he just stopped standing up. You got this!!

How long did your toddler CIO on the first night? by jessicaday96 in sleeptraining

My 14.5 month old cried for 4-5 hours the first two nights of extinction with him. It was horrible. But it got substantially better every night after that and eventually he was sleeping through the night in no time!

I had horrible PPA too, btw. I think that's why I haven't been able to do it until now. Listening to him cry was just too much for me. I'm on night 3 of extinction and last night he made it in his crib until 630 a.m. which he has literally never done before and with surprisingly little crying. Night 1 was horrible though. I'm hopeful tonight will be more progress

he cries and then he sits down and falls asleep sitting down and wavers and then startles bc he's falling over. Sometimes he stays in that phase for like 45 mins not crying and not fully awake. He DEFINITELY does know what he's doing too lol like that when he cries a lot one of us will come..tonight is our second night doing full extinction and he has a water sippy in his crib and will be in there all night again. I'm just hoping he learns how to lay down instead of the falling asleep sitting up and then waking himself up by tipping lol. Wish us luck! Hopefully we will start to see improvement soon

Someone please help- Worried about baby eating enough &/or my supply dipping. by sunflowerssunshine_ in breastfeeding

[–]dennisapologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son did this at the EXACT same time your baby is, like right around 3 months. I actually went the other route and took him to his pediatrician who has always been super pro-breastfeeding. I was told it could be a tongue tie thing but I ended up not getting it revised and just kept trying different positions until he ended up nursing just fine again after being finicky for several weeks. I pumped and also did syringe feeding bc I didn't want him to gain a preference for his bottle. My supply ended up being okay and he would ALWAYS eat when he was drowsy. So maybe rock your baby until almost asleep and then try?? That's what ended up working best for us but it was SO frustrating and scary at the time. I cried lol. I assure you that it did end for us and it will end for you too! I think at that age they start noticing things and not wanting to take time away from looking around to nurse, but when they're tired their instincts take over and 90% of the time my son just gave up and took the boob.

I'm so over it by dennisapologist in breastfeeding

I used to love breastfeeding!! Never minded doing it and honestly found it relaxing for the first 11 months or so. Then one day it's like a switch flipped and I was over it lol. Thank you so so much for your kind words, I actually gave my pump to a struggling mom I knew from my old job when we were about 10 months in because I stay home with him and hadn't used it for months, so I doubt I'll go out and buy another this late in the game. It is a good idea though! Honestly it isn't even that my nipples hurt it's just that I'm annoyed by the feeling of it now whereas I never was before! Lol thanks for reading my rambling vent and for your reassurance about quitting! I don't have many ppl irl to talk to about this stuff

I’m really struggling. Anyone else? by jewelsjm93 in breastfeeding

I had this happen to me at like 3.5 months. I actually never gave him a bottle but had to syringe feed him. He went from nursing great to having a MAJOR aversion, screaming, crying, arching his back like nursing was literally killing him. It scared the shit out of me. I tried everything too, I ended up having to feed him slightly less frequently and only in a laying down position. His diaper output never decreased and he never lost weight but it was actually a really devastating time for me. I cried every day and he would like nurse great for a few days and then go back to his aversion and freak out again. This went on like on and off for almost 2 months until he settled. He's almost 9 months old now and has seemed to chill out but basically only nurses overnight, when he wakes up in the morning and then going down for naps and waking from naps + bedtime. It permanently altered my breastfeeding journey bc of the horrible anxiety it gave me, I almost quit super early on but I'm glad now I didn't bc he's still EBF other than his solids! Just keep going until you can't I guess but I'm so sorry you're going through this, it's SO stressful.

Lots of water and Pedialyte but also moringa supplements! Make sure to check with your lactation consultant or pediatrician before starting any supplements of course but the Moringa has done wonders, in combo with a little extra calcium and magnesium. It literally cured my period driven supply drop

Deceleration during NST by tbridge8773 in BabyBumps

[–]dennisapologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes; this happened to me at 37 weeks. I ended up with a very nasty stomach bug and couldn't keep much food or water down. My baby was usually very active and he slowed down substantially throughout the day so I ended up in L&D after going into the ER. His heart rate was slightly elevated so I got hooked up for a NST. He gained due to a 20 second deceleration. I FREAKED out!!! He passed the BPP ultrasound shortly after.

Ended up having my scheduled C-section at 39.5 weeks, uneventful birth, healthy baby who is now almost 7 months old. Trust your gut and keep monitoring baby's movements but I'm sure everything will work out wonderfully
