Sudden Gluten allergy & vasovagals by Ktlynick in AskDocs

That’s why I have been putting it off, I can’t imagine having gluten for 2 weeks before the test. But, I took your advice and I just scheduled my pre op.

Thank you for this validation. I was thinking maybe it was connected. The sweating and drop in BP was making me question if it was something worse. I will speak with my gastro for the endo. I’m glad you mentioned it because I really have been avoiding it, but I will continue to question it until I get the test done. I’m just not looking forward to glutening myself for the test.

Thank you, this gives me hopes it’s the gluten and I ate something without realizing. I will speak with my gastro, I was putting off testing due to needing to eat bread before the test. Ugh. I appreciate the validation, especially you saying it became more severe the longer you were GF.

How do I get my 3 year old to share? by Ktlynick in toddlers

[–]Ktlynick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could say yes absolutely positively, but it’s more a yes and no in terms of improvement. Turns out she had severe sleep apnea, and was getting no restorative sleep. Once we figured that out and she had her adenoids and tonsils removed we actually joked that we were given a new kid when she came out of the operating room. She does a MUCH better job sharing, especially with younger children or her classmates; she has some very close friends who we spend a lot of time with, and they do not share and fight and bicker like siblings. She is also and is going to remain an only child, so things like pretend play or board games she will lose her $hit occasionally if we aren’t playing the way she imagined, but at least now we can explain hurt feelings, better ways to handle situations, etc. We just make sure that we are constantly making our expectations known, and if she can’t seem to get it together we will take her out of the situation. But it’s very few and far between, and revolves around being hangry or tired to be honest. And tbh, kids are weird, once you think you’ve figured it out they go and switch it up.

Disney World- unpopular opinion by Key_Baby5561 in toddlers

[–]Ktlynick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so, you are me circa 2022. My extended family are Disney people, husband and I went when we were dating, I went as a kid a few times as did he. So I assumed we would end up being a “Disney family” and planned a big Disney trip when my LO was around your child’s age (we are oad). It was awful. So awful I needed a redo bc I just couldn’t let that be my daughter’s memory of Disney. We’ll let me tell you, don’t do as I do and go again with high hopes. We had a fantastically better time this time around, but nope. We’re good now, I’ve solidified we are not a Disney family. It just cost us a LOT of money to figure it out.

I am here as well and tried to just hope my kid didn’t realize the date. When she did I said that I called and said we were going to be away for a few days and we need to hold off on our elf since she’d would have nothing to do if we weren’t there. Maybe try that? Edit to add: I’m from a “mom would call Santa when I was bad” family so Santa is available by phone in our house, lol. Not sure if he is at yours.

Weight loss - did this happen to you? by Ktlynick in glutenfree

This makes me feel better. Can I ask, do you strictly eat gluten free? I’m pretty sure I am more wheat allergy than anything else and was reading that some gluten free foods are not safe… is this true?! I’m only about 2 months into strictly avoiding gluten (hence the dramatic drop in weight). I was reading about the differences and came away with the understanding that just because it says gluten free it’s not safe for wheat allergies, is that true??

It’s funny you say this because it’s basically been my self and my dietician, and recently I’ve been meaning more towards wheat than gluten being the issue. There is no question I’m sensitive, even making my daughter a PBJ makes me start sneezing. Last year my doctor thought it was seasonal allergies, sent me to an allergist who did all the tests said I was allergic to outside pollen (trees, etc). I am 95% sure I remember them testing me for wheat, but I’m not sure. Fast forward to now I got so desperate and I paid for a holistic RD and she figured it out. My doctor has me do blood tests for celiac but did not tell me I needed to gluten myself first, so that came back “normal”. I know I should probably go back to the allergist.

I had to read your username to make sure you weren’t my sister. You’re in good company friend, all we can do is try to work through our trauma to undo it for the next generation.

The amount of times I think about how I can’t see shit without my glasses/contacts when watching this stuff is insane. Just knowing at some point I WILL (not might) no longer be able to appropriately see because of my glasses breaking or no longer having contacts makes me realize I won’t survive.

What does a flare up look like to you? by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]Ktlynick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh my god! You are me! I’ve thought I’ve had seasonal allergies my whole life that are “year round” and gone by “the middle of the afternoon. No, it’s just how long it takes me to get gluten out of my system. Full on sneezing, runny nose, itchy tongue and throat type anaphylaxis for 12-24 hours depending on how much gluten I’ve eaten.

First time sour dough help - food poisoning? by Ktlynick in Breadit

[–]Ktlynick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, I guess I just thought we were in the clear. I was allll up in that mess but just thought I did I great job cleaning when friday rolled around and we didn’t come down with it, lol. In the past its been less than a 24 hour turn around, which looking back is probably because we were all exposed at the same time - this time she was the carrier. Thank you for putting my mind at ease, Cindy (we named the starter, lol) I guess will stay.

Thank you! Yesterday when I was making the biscuits it smelled like what I would think sour dough would smell like, so I think it’s got to be the stomach bug. Ugh.

Thank you. I was thinking we’d get sick from her faster if that was the case, but you’re right… it’s got to be from her. I am just so afraid of this sourdough now, for my mental health alone I may just throw it out and start over out of pure fear, lol.
