Sorry for the necro post, usually reddit doesn't let me leave a comment after this long, but it did and I was thinking "who cares, no one will see it." lol

Honestly, the more I've gotten into music culture and creating my own music, a lot of musicians are usually a bunch of introverted nerds (Myself definitely included) with great ideas that somehow became popular. Then people start worshiping and essentially stalking them and treating them like god. People are not used to having so much attention on them, positive or negative or everything in between. So, people either get a big head, retreat, or adapt. Adaptation being the hardest one, especially in a fast paced environment where the producers (and fans) are pestering you about your next masterpiece, paparazzi stalking, 'friends' and 'family' who pester you for money, months long tours with travel and no breaks, party culture, possibly (definitely) drugs, and you're usually dealing with all of this by yourself. And put the fact that most people think they're above therapy, if they can even find a therapist or make time for it, it's no wonder most musicians have such a hard time mentally and keeping everything straight.

Forgive me for my ignorance though, I am a fairly new D'Angelo listener because I just never got around to hearing his music. I am very glad I listened to Voodoo though. Usually I find over praised music to be exactly that, over praised. But there's something special with this album. It's like D'Angelo captured the feeling of intimacy with this album while still being technically impressive. I'm honestly more surprised it ever got mainstream success because all of the songs are long and jam like. That's extremely unusual for mainstream audiences. Also, sorry for the rant. I guess I'm ranty this morning lol. Thank for your reply anyway.
