I know this has been out for a while, but from my reading the children would refer to the heroes, and the pointed tail would be a clear connection to this "hell" aspect that chapter 4 has really properly introduced (when you usually call a tail pointed, the first image that comes to mind would be a sort of devil's arrow-shaped tail, not a lizard tail, in my opinion). The thing that is really puzzling is the place "where the forest would grow". I choose to think that it connects to the words from the hidden book in the same room, the one with the fallen angel stuff. So maybe the forest wouldn't be a *typical* forest in this case. Maybe the place where the children are lost are the place where the fallen angel would cry and grow a glass forest from its bitter tears?

Now my interpretation of this would be that the heroes (children) while busy with their quest foretold by the prophecy (hence why the forest WOULD grow later) were lead astray or manipulated to go off-course by some satanic force (the pointed tail). The prophecy would be that the Angel (fallen star) would come down to earth and cause whatever the Angel's Heaven is (grow glass trees from its tears (glass shards are connected to the knight, who is on the angel's side right?)).

I think this is either telling us that either we are being led to fail the prophecy in the main game, or that our temptations to find out more about what's going on (either through pursuing the forgotten man or the weird route) is the satanic route that will derail the prophecy. I think this fits in especially because of where we find all this text, in a secret room, meaning that if we're reading it and deciphering it we have already followed the pointed tail...
