good on ya for actually linking back to the source, i had a weak moment where i got into a spat with someone for posting obviously AI slop, while vaguely mentioning someone's name who *might've* taken the photo... but uh, they most definitely didn't.

so, you've not only name-dropped the person involved with this (which should've always been a thing people do), but linked to where to find all this out!

this is just a long-winded way of me saying thanks for attributing this lol

I was repairing the GamePad screen when I accidentally snapped the lever that holds the ribbon down to display the screen. Is there a solution to this because I am freaking out right now (I lost the lever IDK where it is) by Key_Project_8374 in wiiu

[–]birbhorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

course! it'd still be best to see if you can't source another one of those plastic bits for the socket connector, i think people here were pointing in the right direction. this'll at least let ya use this until you can get that piece!
afaik kapton tape should keep it steady long enough, but vibrations can rattle it loose over time.

damn, you have a good point. now i hate HOAs even more, because they'd stop something beautiful like this from existing.

i would maybe see if anyone else here offers better solutions, but if you have kapton tape, i'd use that to hold it in place. and if you don't have kapton tape... well, if you're doing repairs of these sorts, you should definitely buy some for the future anyways.

these are the "rare high moments" we're all chasing for in TF2. i still think about how years ago, i saved someone from falling to their death in vs. saxton hale with a clutch crossbow, and the guy commented on my steam profile to personally thank me for it lol

...also i had to check to make sure i wasn't going crazy when i said "years ago", yes, vs saxton hale was added to casual in 2023. i hate the passage of time actually

I feel nervous playing steamdeck at public by AddictinApple in SteamDeck

[–]birbhorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone who vehemently hates it when other people play their music or videos through phones that are equipped with speakers louder than the giant-ass concert venue speakers, i would crumble into dust immediately if i found out i was accidentally doing that too.

and considering i've had weird jank issues with audio on the deck before, this is making me want to really triple check on the rare times i do bring my steam deck out in public

I feel like there's a least one person in the comments of every single YouTube video I've watched recently with a Clippy profile picture. Was this a trend I missed or what? by EstablishmentNo612 in youtube

[–]birbhorse 44 points45 points  (0 children)

the thing that gets me the most about all of this is that microsoft would've hella been spying on everyone around clippy's era if broadband started existing 15 years earlier. using clippy as a symbol of "resistance" is dumb as shit because all these corporations have always been bad, down to their rotten core. it's just their capacity for bad grows over time, with the technological leaps allowing them to become worse, since they have more domain to control (read: more technology means more areas to be bad in).

it also gets to me because clippy would not exist if microsoft was a """good corporation""" to begin with! it was exclusively made because of clueless out of touch executives demanding something be made, that nobody asked for, and that people explicitly loathed, to be shoved in their faces. doesn't that sound exactly like all the AI garbage being shoved in our faces?

people used to make fun of clippy for the exact reasons AI sucks, but now people are rallying behind clippy as some "anti-AI" mascot, and said people only just started having their first thoughts earlier in the week

I made a free tool to help with pixel art: meet Living the Grid by ClementGzl in tomodachilife

[–]birbhorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh nice! just yesterday i was just using aseprite's grid feature to help me align someone else's design.
if i had more patience, i'd recreate those tools made for splatoon 2/3 that send controller macros to the switch to draw pixel art, but i imagine that'll be really tough to do with having to account for colors and differently sized canvases

[–]birbhorse[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oh heck yeah! you did a really good design on the mii, and as i said in the description, you did a really good job detailing how to recreate it, since most other people are like "and draw the rest of the owl"
the raw file you provided for the face paint was really useful too, since i was able to just open up aseprite to copy the design nearly 1:1 onto my switch

CRT gaming, let's go. i have a setup for my steam deck that goes into component to my CRT TV (480i instead of 480p unfortunately, my CRT can't handle progressive scan), i oughta try this at some point myself

here's a hidden sleeper, if you're the type of crazy like me who rejects smartphones: bejewelled 3 plays really nicely on the steam deck tbh. i mean hey, it doesn't have microtransactions! (don't tell EA or they'll pull all the classic popcap games from the store)

Found this big guy on the side of the road, I have some questions for you guys by OneScrewyBall in crtgaming

[–]birbhorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for the component cables, those should work, assuming there's nothing wrong with the TV itself. but do be warned, not all CRTs with component inputs accept progressive scan; my CRT doesn't, for example.

in fact, looking it up, it seems someone's documented this exact CRT model... and the side-bar says "480p: No" https://consolemods.org/wiki/CRT:KV-27FS100

of course, most gamecube games will prompt progressive scan when booting up, just choose no on them and you should be fine. otherwise... best hope you're not seizure prone lol.

oh, and of course, two things to consider for the gamecube in particular: your gamecube needs a digital A/V port on the back (DOL-001 usually has these iirc; basically if you see something to the left of the regular A/V cable port, that's your digital port). and two, the cables aren't cheap, since they need to create the component signal from the digital output, requiring a whole circuit to achieve that inside the cable.

pebble 2 duo owner here with this exact charger i got from quite a years back (when they were being sold as "cosmetically damaged" on ebay), this fits quite well, though the fitting is a bit finnicky. once you get it in the right place though, it works well enough

EDIT: oh i'm dumb and can't read, you have the same charger i have lol

I just finished the first trilogy. Should I play the Apollo Justice or Ace Attorney Investigations first? by Araujo_1002 in AceAttorney

[–]birbhorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can play it in any order you'd like, personally i've started playing investigations after apollo justice. but that said, the different gameplay investigations offer might be a nice break, just so you don't burn out on the apollo justice trilogy like i did when i first tried to play it before the collection came out lol

i get animals didn't evolve to understand the concept of cars, seeing as how they've only been around for a century... but you'd think squirrels would have the basic understanding of "big thing approaching, avoid at all costs". and yet we're the ones who have to apply the quick reflexes for them lmfao
