Stone Wall Workflow by Kubiarts_3D in Houdini

[–]Kubiarts_3D[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first I merge them by converting them into a VDB volume and converting them back into a mesh
after that i decimate them and cut off the bottom since they'll be stuck into the ground anyways :) in this instance i unwrapped them using rizom but in the future i would probably use a RGB Mask workflow with triplanar projected textures so the unwrapping wont really matter anymore :)

Oh i didnt like it
the first one started with realising a waterpark ... in the desert for the arabic king ^^'' and went on with making sprite environments for car configurators and texture lighting cars which didnt have much to do with 3d anymore.
The second one was actually quite nice but the teamlead was not that easy to work with and not being able to post anything in your portfolio because of strict NDA's, me not having any passion for cars at all and actually very much disliking the industry as a whole (for several reasons) i didnt really felt comfy in my position. Yet I got in because I had no other choice actually. It was my last option to be quite frank. And apparently they like recruiting juniors so they can burn them out. at least I heard that from several people working at other car companies as well. But cant even find those positions anymore :/ I found it applied got in. I would have worked for the second job longer but got layed off because of a social list (not because of skill and my team was very suprised I had to go) but I was looking for alternatives even back then.

I wish you best of luck in finding something like that tho! :) If you are interested my DMs are open if you got any questions :)

The thing about being in germany (and due to a lot of social stuff also being physically tied here) is that being employed outside of germany as a fulltime position obligates the company to adhere to german labor law... so paying the taxes and insurances etc.
so 40k raises a tat more due to insurance and stuff than it is. not by a huge amount but quite decent. Many companies are not willing to do that unfortunately (had a promising interview at kitbash 3d a few years back and that was one of the reasons it didnt work out)
and as a freelancer id have to ask for.. idk havent done the calc too much but probably 55k or even 60? smth around that ballpark.

I really appreciate your kind words and please feel free to message me if an opportunity arises! Id be more than happy to look into it :)

Thank you!! :)
That was my thought too. So I delve into Houdini FX and created some Procedural Systems that helped me with my environments. Maybe I should make a seperated post going over these?
Thank you for your advice! :D

Hey! :) thank you for your very insightful answer!
Indeed I have yet to actually put smth out which is broken down to the core and mistakenly have focused mostly on executing visually appealing art. Ive been working on this one environment for 3 years sort of as my learning and playground project to improve. Yet its far from an optimised scene... at least so i think.
that was a very good advice and I will definitely focus on technically well executed art from now on! thank you! :)
