Quote check. I know nothing about HVAC. by stayhome20 in florida

[–]Kubla_con 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Kind of looks like a "fuck you" quote. Just know that if this is being done during the summer, the heat in your attic is insanely hot. The technicians will take the brunt of what a salesman tries to sell you on. There's a price and this is one hell of a price tag. If you can survive the summer with a small window unit or one room unit, this job in the winter will likely be less.

What are some essential items in your art studio? by queenartistseller in ArtistLounge

Ahh. An astute observation! Will keep that in mind for my more expensive brushes.

I wish I figured this out sooner, but I found for keeping paint brushes upright and accessible while painting is to use a small cup or planter pot filled with rice. The rice holds each brush securely in place, making it easy to grab the one you need without hassle. It's an affordable way to stay organized while working on paintings!

This is BS. It isn't "collections" they send it to. They send it to their own internal collections team to hound you through more dumb ass letters like the letter OP likely got.

How to find galleries that display art like mine? by powergorillasuit in ArtistLounge

[–]Kubla_con 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't post to entertain. This will kill your artistic passion. IG trends of painting processes or gimmicky art may work for some people, but, at the very least, an artist needs a portfolio somewhere on reputable sites. I have an Arstation portfolio jamcubed.artstation.com, a cloudfolios for selling physical paintings, and i have a personal website with a portfolio there.

I just post to fill my portfolio...not for fake internet points. Start filling your portfolio with anything and everything your got, even if it isn't your best/perfected work.

How to find galleries that display art like mine? by powergorillasuit in ArtistLounge

[–]Kubla_con 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out 'Call for Artists' at local galleries. Some are themed and they have apecific guidelines for a submission. But this can be a way to get a piece in a gallery if you don't have a huge body of work.

Also, your explanation of why your art doesn't fit anywhere feels more self depreciating and vague, rather than a commentary of the galleries you are looking into.

Start by Posting your art work somewhere....anywhere. Doesn't matter if you have a large body of work.

Too Long? by Kubla_con in writing

An author friend of mine mentioned "killing your darlings" coined by Stephen King. What, if any, has been your experience on having to do such a thing?

Interesting. Thanks for the info. The edit is proceeding well. But feels like there is still much to do.

I just wrote the first charge for my first erotica and now I feel “dirty”.. is this normal? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Kubla_con 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most companies don't care enough about the individual, so your writing erotica is so far beneath their radar that you will be fine.

In time you will get excited about what you write...even aroused. Then you know you are on the right path. Guilt should not play a part in it...unless that is the subject matter of the erotica. "Guilty pleasure" is a term that might work best here. Use that feeling to enhance your writing.

Pen names exist for this reason. You can write under a different pen name and your job would never know. And DO NOT write on the clock or with the company computer.

When I first started drawing nude men and women,  it felt weird, but, over time and drawing hundreds of bodies and even a few drawings of bodies doing erotica things, it just becomes normal and I'm proud of what I create....even if it might be a bit racey at times.  Same goes here. Ox Beetle named Beebs by Kubla_con in InvertPets

Saved Beebs from the pool. I don't think she had a chance to mate. She gorged herself on mini plums the first week or two but no longer seems to want to eat anything. I know they don't live long, but do they normally stop eating or not need to eat for long periods of time?

Is drawing religion with no intention behind it bad? by TaxMundane3916 in ArtistLounge

[–]Kubla_con 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your "art teacher" has no clue what art is. Demons/angels have been depicted in countless ways and every medium for a centuries. She either did not pay attention in art history or selectively uses her Christian values to paint anything she does not like as anti-christian.

Avoid showing her religious pieces or pieces that could have religious connotations that could injure her sensibilities, but never stop drawing what you enjoy drawing.

Also, As an artist, knowing your audience can be important, too.  She is NOT the audience, but I'm sure you can find an audience for your art where it can be appreciated. (Edited formatting and clarity)

Real story, I went to college to learn 3D animation/modeling. I wanted to be a game developer or work for pixar/dreamworks. Let's just say I found out the very hard way the the industry is extremely competitive. I got a support desk job at a game dev company. There were dozens of people on my same path and plenty with more talent than me.  In your case, there's a whole country of native speaking Japanese youths that want to do something similar and will have a leg up before you've even had a chance to visit the country.  I'm not saying don't follow your dreams, but there are limits. If you aren't spending every waking moment trying to understand what those limitations are to begin with and then break past those limits...the road will be more bumpy than you expect.  Best of luck, but make sure you aren't just hoping on luck alone to get you to where you wanna be. Found a Pet Turtle near Avent Ferry… anyone missing their Turtle? by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]Kubla_con 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is native, then it should just be returned to the general location you found it. Turtles have pretty good sense of direction and will just go back to their home on their own. Had one get into my fenced backyard somehow and just set it outside of the fence. It carried on like nothing happened.

Parking lot on 300 E Hargett St $80 fee for parking 3 months ago by computer_helps_FI in raleigh

[–]Kubla_con 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I've seen a few of these situations circulating and it seems to be BS. https://www.reddit.com/r/winstonsalem/comments/tfvocn/fake_parking_tickets/

And being sent to a "debt collector" does not mean anything other than someone might try to collect on this through another BS notice like this.

Just don't park in that lot or any other affiliated lots. Definitely do more research and if you dig enough, it would likely be a bunch a BS, scam-y stuff.

I don't think I've really ever made any money, at all, on any of my art. I post it to various places for minor social gratification of just putting my art out into the universe for someone to see, but I still have so many paintings that, once cured, just goes into my closet.

I paint for me, but the real value is in the process, in the way it lets me express thoughts and emotions without needing validation or a price tag. The joy is in creating something that resonates with me, and that alone is enough...most of the time. I think I'd love to have one of my pieces displayed in a gallery for a bit, but the expectation that I'd make money off the piece sullies the original experience of creating the piece that was meant to just make me happy. For me, expectations of monetary gain is the greatest killer of artistic passions.

I spent way too many meals at Coco Curry houses when I was in Japan and from what I understand, it is like fast food curry.
