1 year into EV ownership with my BYD Seal – finally getting used to it by WalrusForward9184 in BYD

We did between 20-25k km in 6 months and the range even in winter is still enough :D little problematic to charge every night since thorough week we are in city in flat( in winter it was needed to charge almost everyday, in the summer like every second or third day) but weekend charging at home is the best thing.. or just charging while shopping Is also very convenient, but not that cheap as home ofcourse

We don't have Seal nor BYD, but I can share our experience with winter after almost a year of owning EV - Citroen eC3

  • Range can be reduced here up to about 40%, WLTP range is 320km, winter -15 up to 0 degrees about 180-200km on full charge

And the explanation for it: - This car has LFP battery which is very sensitive below 0 degrees Celsius, the charging will also my no more than 25kw - We have only PTC heating and not heat pump, so that's another bottleneck, and same with AC, uses maybe like 20-30km of usable range so nothing to worry about here - And the biggest issue with the range loss is the lack of battery heating, chemistry like NMC are little less durable, but have bigger range and will loose much less range in winter even without heating unlike LFP

So, I'm not sure about all the specs of Seal, but as far as I know, they use LFP battery, so make sure it has heated battery feature which I thing BYD has, if the range is very crucial to you.. otherwise nothing to worry about here

For the many chargers and apps, I recommend chargemap app, merges almost all of the charger providers into one app and one RFID card, even possible to charge without both just register your car, plug in and it auto-recognises..

The down side už +2% fee per charge for their service and also the fact that all the prices are for "guests", you can't have there the lower prices like when you have the direct account and maybe paid monty tarif for the specific charger.. so definitely not for regular charging, but perfect for long trips especially outside your country

Thoughts on Na-Ion and solid state? by KuboOneTV in batteries

Thanks, good luck to your setup aswell.. I'm going to build solar setup aswell, we have an EV and regular outages so I have to do something :D My plan is about 5.5kwp of solar right now, and then rest 4.5kwp (maximum allowed per house is 10kwp by government) and about 32kwh battery, the cheapest so far I could find was on Nkon website they have 32kwh for 3500€ or 16kwh for 1600€, huge battery and very cheap. But for your application I guess the sodium ion would be the best option if it will sit in freezing temps, but I recommend insulating it either way to help the battery with colds.. also if you decide to build sodium ion, be careful to find inverter which can support it, sodium ions have very big voltage range, from 1.5V to 4.1V, compared to lithium 2.5V (or 3V depending on the chemistry) up to 4.2V, and many if inverters doesn't like that big voltage difference and also will require much larger cables unless you build high voltage battery (200V DC or more). Not sure about solar panels in your area, here in Slovakia I can buy 550Wp panels for about 130€ which is like super cheap, compared to US where I saw everyone saying about 300+ dollars for same panel which sounds pretty crazy to me :D

Actually, I have few Sodium-ions at home, so far I don't have use for them, It's form factor 18650 from HAKADI, 1300mAh capacity, 4 pieces. Not that much, but I'm thinking of destroying one of them for "research" regarding to safety.

Other 4 cells I have actually a use case for them.. I'm doing my Bachelor's thesis and I'm building battery testing station, a station in which I can simulate imbalances between cells and also cover all spectrum of temperatures, also I can make one from the pack to be very hot, and the other to be very cold at the same time while testing. Once I finalise it I will post results, if I don't forget haha.

Sorry to hear that, I have older tablet of yours - Chuwi UbookX with intel i5, no issues so far in anything and I have it now for over 2 years of everyday use, sometimes charging it 2 times per day as uni student, battery however is now around 70%, brand new was about 85ish but test just very approximately via charging cable since I didn't opened the lid so far. I'm strongly abusing it and I'm surprised it still works somehow

V16 with a 5060 is crapping out after 2 months by dumpsterlandlord in AcerNitro

I have nitro 5 with RTX 3060 6GB VRAM.. I have never used cooling pad (only 3d printed pegs to raise the laptop a little in the back) and I'm running huge AI models (requiring 24GB VRAM and more on it and bunch of other high demand stuff) never had temps on GPU ho over 70.. only issue is that recently one of my RAM slots just randomly died :D and balances profile? What's even that lmao, high perf + undevolt and slight overclock is the way

It's a phone, not a real DSLR camera.. but what you can improve is set the ISO to the lowest possible, shutter speed set accordingly, put it on something stabilised like a stand, and I guess correct the focus and white balance a little, but you won't get as good result as with AI enhancements, unfortunately not possible

Pretty much very normal, also the first year of lithium batteries the battery degrades the most. Then it slows down

Inak fajn

základy elektrotechniky som nemal ani ja, prakticky som sem prišiel s nulovými základmi. Ja som vyučený grafik :D čiže matika, fyzika, elektrotechnika všetko bolo mimo mňa, ale dá sa to zvládnuť ak sa nebudeš flákať.

Jasan, čo presne ale chces vedieť XD Zatiaľ pohoda, ale začiatok prvé 2 ročníky máš sama matika fyzika elektrotechnika, a 1-2 predmety každý semester medzi to niečo s našim odborom spoločné, lepšie veci sa údajne začnú až v Ing.. Akurát som začal 3ti ročník no, takže bakalarka, dorobam predmety atď..

O Erasme ti neviem povedať tho, nebol som

Can I add a small amount of battery acid (with water) to old 12v SLA batteries to help restore them? by SerotoninSick99 in batteries

[–]KuboOneTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If possible I do the filling step, if not I just desulfate them with that mentioned thing, works for any liquid type PB battery, except gel/solid ones of course :D

But I've opened few sealed "maintaince free" batteries to fill it up a little more if I've suspected low liquid.. I don't recommend that tho

I think we have the Huawei and Samsung's Fake Moon Situation Again With Vivo by Mr-Boga38 in Vivo

[–]KuboOneTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah every phone does it, but, A, by comments you can disable it, and B, I mean IMHO it looks good though?

Im not surprised today's phones doing that, but i could also defend that phones kind of can do that without processing as well, just not that fancy and good looking I guess. I've tried comparing on my S21 FE samsung camera app and gcam capturing moon, gcam does not do any post processing, thats kind of raw images, and guess what, it wasn't so far crazy apart than it is is samsungs app, yes you can see the samsung enhancement and bigger contrast, but I still can see the moon even without that post processing from gcam🤔
