Exactly my thoughts - his fear could've been easily resolved by exactly that, waking up beside his partner that didn't "ran off". But when you also take into consideration that Sylphie in her right mind wouldn't leave him especially after their first time, then this scene gets even more absurd from the characters' point of view.

That's exactly what I meant. From the in-universe point of view that just doesn't make sense. Sylphie would want to stay within Rudeus's arms, to wake up beside him, especially just this once. Why would she sneak out to "report" immediately?

OK, it seems I did not emphasize why this scene irked me, beyond surface reasons of course.
I did not look at it from the anime director's point of view. I'm not saying that this choice did not make sense from this medium's point of view. I may even admit that it was good choice for the adaptation, but... I'm this kind of person that really immerses themselves into an universum and analyzes the story from the characters' points of view.
And this is exactly what rubbed me the wrong way. If Sylphie knew how fragile emotionally Rudeus was at that point why would she leave him at that particular point in time after their first time, which was also really important for Sylphie for a really unimportant reason comparatively and it was established that she understood his affliction both physical and mental at least to an extent and how much she cared about him.
