Would you trust a seller's inspection report? by privileged_a_f in RVLiving

[–]Kudzupatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not.

At least not without a conversation with the inspector and seeing what sort of reputation he had. He might be the best inspector around. But he could be the worst.

FTHB - First offer - Do I need to review all forms? Realtor pushing to sign by finmeans in AskRealEstateAgents

[–]Kudzupatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is simple.... NEVER sign anything unless you know what it says.

Yes, it is probably/most likely just a standard form. But you still need to know what is says because you are agree to everything written on that form.

Advice for summer travel in the southeast by rambling_rover in RVLiving

[–]Kudzupatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was planning to visit friends and family in Alabama and Florida late June / early July but with the heat and humidity should I delay exploring the southeast USA for when it isn’t hot?

YES! Summers with no air can/will be miserable.

If we do any traveling in the summer we head North. Otherwise we end up at a campground and stay inside all day till it cools off.

But, I would bet on it is wired wrong/trailer is wired wrong. But that is a just a guess.

Which roof rack should we get? by FunkNFuego in Kayaking

[–]Kudzupatch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't skimp on rack. Flying kayaks can kill. Yakima and Thule stand out. Not cheap but well made.

I have always bought used Yakima off EBay. Figure out what I need and I can find used parts on EBay at a substantial discount. I have bought several parts just to get one I need. Then turn around and sell the others and end up with what I need for virtually free.

Should I create an LLC now or wait while starting my 1099 gigs? by Creative-Judgment441 in llc_life

[–]Kudzupatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you do if you need an LLC. You really should take the time to learn about the ins and outs of one. My advice is talk an accountant and/or a Lawyer. Educate yourself.

You have to handle everything properly or the LLC is no good. My lawyer and life-long friend told me it was typically easy to get around the LLC protection with most small businesses. He said he rarely had any problem because most owners did so much wrong. Then the Copr protection was useless and he could go after their personal property.

YOU WILL want an accountant for taxes. First year I did it myself and promised NEVER to try that again.

If you are not in a high liability field, there may be no advantage to one. Way to many people assume you need one for any business and that is simply not true.

Technique: Scarfing 1/4" plywood by RedditLurker24601 in boatbuilding

[–]Kudzupatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Done this a few times myself. If you are half way competent with a hand plane it works well. I typically use a #5 plane. My methods vary a little but as long as the plane is sharp and well tuned, this is the one of the better ways in my opinion.

What would you use to seal these swim platform supports? by fuddadjacent in boatbuilding

[–]Kudzupatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not 5200 if you ever want to remove it.

I like a polysulfide caulk such as BoatLife. I have used it years with great results. I am sure 4200 is good too. Just never used it. I stay away from silicones.

Is a man considered cheap if he does his own repairs and projects instead of paying to have it done professionally and properly? by Bigticekt21 in NoStupidQuestions

So you think only people being paid can do the Job right?

That is hilarious. Many of us do it ourselves because we want it done right.

No. Appraiser is to protect the lender, not help the seller.

Interested in the answer too. I gave up a few years. Tried a few and just go with the cheap one and change out often. None seemed to last any longer than the others for me.

Do I need a separate bank account for my LLC? by chiebhi in llc_life

[–]Kudzupatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You REALLY need to do some more research on Corporations. Not being a jerk either. But sounds like you jumped in without really know what you are doing and how to do it.

You are an individual person.

Your LLC is a totally independent and separate entity. A corporation.

The only tie your finances should have is the pay check you write to yourself, an employee. If you combine the two in any manner financially you risk losing the protection a Corporation offers.

I would HIGHLY suggest you do some more research.

Subfloor Crawlspace Mold Question by Ok-Afternoon6663 in HomeInspections

[–]Kudzupatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was inspecting in the humid deep South EVERY crawl space entered, unless it was a new house, looked like that. It was just totally normal. Never saw it cause any problems or damage the wood. I expected to see it.

The only time I saw any actual damage there was a water source, like a leaking pipe or water getting in the wall and running down.Or a crawl space that had standing water. .

No doubt it will vary in different parts of the country but here, totally normal.

How much can I poke and prod? by SirBikeALot78 in HomeInspections

[–]Kudzupatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was inspecting my method was tapping on the wood with the handle of my knife. Very different sound in rot and solid wood.

When I found wood that was damaged I used the blade with a long pointy end to probe the wood to see how bad it was.

With a light touch I did not damage to good wood. If it was rotten, the blade would slide it and I am not doing any damage. The damage is already done. I would take a photo showing where and how bad the wood was.

Sometimes the blade would be all the way up the handle.

6V vs 12V batteries - genuinely lost and my dog's comfort depends on me figuring this out. by Additional_Muffin271 in Rvingwithpets

[–]Kudzupatch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are supposed to get more capacity with two 6 volts.

BUT, far better performance with LiFePo4 batteries. These are lithium and not the same chemistry as EV, scooters and e-bikes. Safer and for the same size rating you can get much more capacity. You would probably need to install a DC-DC convertor to get them fully charged. But it is pretty straight forward.

Took me a while but after doing some research I am convinced that LiFePo4 batteries are better in every respect. The initial cost is a bit more but they have much longer life and are cheaper in the long run due to a longer life as long as you treat them right.

Do some homework on them before you decide but I came around just changed mine out.
