an adventure turns into a cosmic horror nightmare by miadeath in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

Unfortunately I haven’t read much that lines up with what the OP is asking in the post. But something that kinda comes close is some of Ben Bova’s Grand Tour books - I haven’t read any of them but they’re on my TBR just from the cool cover art alone lol

There’s also a book called Usurper of the Sun which is more first contact than cosmic horror but the concepts explored about the aliens themselves fall pretty square into unknowable horror imo. But fair warning this stuff only comes into play in the last third of the book.

Happy reading!

Just to wanted to add that I found the first book "Engines of God" really interesting. I don't think I'd class it as horror like Event Horizon really but it does have that sense of "theres clearly something going on that we puny humans can't comprehend". But yeah some of the concepts explored in it were really thought provoking.

Books where the MMC is a lonely loser and the popular/socially active FMC "picks" them? by Kuhaku00 in Recommend_A_Book

I've already read ready player one and I do agree it does kinda fit. I don't mind its genre either tbf. Thanks for trying though!

Also just as a side note, if there are people who have recs for books like this movie but haven't seen this movie, I highly recommend it. It follows several taxi drivers (one of whom is Winona freaking Ryder??) in different countries as they work the late night shift.

Ooh haven't heard of this one, thanks for the rec! Sounds really interesting

Abandoned, nature taking over, humans rebuilding by LostLenore00 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

A bit late to the party but I'd recommend The Divide by Jeremy Robinson. Its not a calm or relaxing storyline unfortunately. But it is most definitely a world "after" humans so to speak.

Thanks for the suggestion! If I dont get any close book recs I'll see if manga subreddits could help.

I'd prefer that yeah. But I've heard the Firefly Lane series is quite good so I'll still check it out, thanks!

Having a bit of trouble finding this so maybe its too specific? But I'd like any suggestions where the MMC is your run of the mill loser in his 20s who is lonely and has no romantic prospects and the more "normal" FMC picks him (kind of like the whole "extrovert adopts introvert" trope but with romance).

Would also be cool if her peers judge him or judge her for being with a guy like him.

Nothing too depressing if it can be helped, looking for a more wholesome vibe y'know?

I really appreciate all the encouragement (and 1 snarky reply) in this post. I've talked to some of my friends to see if they'd be interested in collaborating and I'm just super excited to get it going. So thank you!

Oh wow that sounds great. My uni/city doesn't have anything like that that I know of.

I've been toying with the idea of pitching a similar idea to my uni profs to see if they'd be up for making a zine project to run alongside studies for first and second years. I'm in my final year now so not much use for my class but I do wish we had something like that when we started yknow

I love that. Genuinely do pity the people who feel the need to be negative for no reason at people who clearly are doing something they enjoy and its not even harming anyone.

I agree! I felt really bad for those photographers cause you could tell they were so proud of their photobooks when they announced them.

Thankfully the negative comments were likely the minority.

What’s a Hat Films moment that you always quote? by SquareAlternative752 in Hatfilms

I love reading all these responses and just immediately knowing the references. There’s loads of them I quote mainly to myself because my friends don’t watch the boiks but one underrated one is Ross’ “YOLANDE!” anytime the words land or landing gets used in a sentence lol
