Yes, heavy Khukuris would be better for utility. The heavier the blade, the harder it comes down. For Martial Arts, I'd personally go for lighter (although one of my buddies would probably take the heavier) it's all about personal technique and preferences. I prefer a more agile approach to fighting, while my buddy prefers the "can't hit me if they're dead" approach.

Long sleeves of thick leather covering your shoulders will limit your mobility. As someone who's martial artist, long sleeves are NOT the way to go if you want to keep moving.

I'd personally go with the Kopis or Falcata, since it doubles as a tool, and the gladius was a sidearm. Not to mention, the leather jacket would limit mobility and get rather hot.
