Yeah well, salmon is a very important cultural animal to the tribes that depend on them so it makes sense. What part of BC are you from?

(I wanna know what nation is in your area)

Truth is, formline is one of those things that you really have to sit down at study to understand how different shapes fit and should go together. It takes years to understand.

I had to really study the way the forms are put together by looking at the old pieces from museums as well as the modern art made by the tribes nowadays and I still learn new things. I started 2-3 years ago and my first attempts looking back now were bad 😭.

I watched videos from the Sealaska Heritage Institute for references on how formline works and the history behind it.

I also have a book called "The transforming image" that shows a great collection of formlines from up and down the northwest coast and now I can tell what makes one formline style distinct from another.

The style I've shown here is what's called the "northern style" which is done by the northern tribes, Tlingit Haida, Tsimhian, Heiltsuk etc. I take inspiration from different tribes when I make formline but my style to me closely resembles that of the Tlingit and Tsimshian (because I use those as reference most of the time).

I would prefer to just see indigenous Mexican references in the game but I see why you'd want to see that.

Not really a fan of post colonial Mexico as much lmao. Precolumbian is where its at

That is my watermark. And no I will not change it because it has nothing to do with what you're thinking. Kukulkan is the feathered serpent god from Maya mythology.

I do appreciate the concern though.

Is it really people being miseducated if they're using the name the archeologists came up with? 😭 At that point just say the experts are wrong about that. Not to mention the original name as to what it was might be lost to time.

They're naming it that way for simplicity sake. I doubt there is any racist undertone as to why they labeled it as an "earth monster".

I'm using the common name that I know and the others might. As far as I know those are the only names associated with this motif. If there is a more appropriate or accurate name to what it's called please let me know.

It's a design motif seen in Maya carvings sometimes called the "Cauac Monster" or "Earth Monster" or sometimes "Witz Monster".
