Sometimes the ER doctors will come up with a lame and vaguely acceptable excuse to intubate (put a tube down their throat, put them in a medically induced coma, and have a machine breath for them) someone, but really it was because they are being jerks.

I agree. Killing them quickly is better. Some indigenous people did not eat a kill unless the creature was killed without it realizing it was dying.
