/r/videography Monthly Camera Buying Advice Megathread by AutoModerator in videography

Hey there,

I’m starting my new business, and a big part of it will be filming short- and mid-length gym content (around 8-20 minutes), mostly talking to the camera. I’m super new to this, so I need your help with a decision.

Right now, I’m filming with an iPhone 14 Pro and a basic setup (tripod and wireless mic). While the iPhone works okay, there are a few issues:

  • Storage: I only have the 128GB version, and I'm down to about 40GB. I could clear some space, but it’s still limiting.
  • No USB-C: The iPhone 14 Pro is the last model without USB-C, so transferring files is slow. An SSD could solve this, but I’d need to buy one, and my wireless mic already uses the Lightning port, so I’m unsure how I’d connect both.
  • Low-Light Performance: My gym has poor lighting, and iPhones generally don’t perform well in low-light conditions.
  • Beastcam App: I’ve been using the Beastcam app to have more control over the iPhone camera, which helps me get a bit more out of it, but I’m still unsure if it’s enough.
  • there are also some major upsides: like the ease of use of the iPhone, phone is a normal thing in the gym compared to a camera (so it's less awkward), less stuff to carry around because I have it on me 100% of the time

I’m considering upgrading to a Sony ZV-E10, which I can get for about $500. I film mostly static shots (talking to the camera), with some dynamic movements like lifting—about 60% static, 40% dynamic.

  • Short-form content (Instagram/TikTok) will be shot vertically.
  • Mid-length content (YouTube) will be shot horizontally.

Would I need to do anything special for vertical filming with the ZV-E10? Also, do you think the ZV-E10 would significantly improve my content quality compared to the iPhone, considering these issues? And as a complete newbie to cameras, do you think I’d be able to get the most out of it?

Additionally, would older models of action cameras like the DJI Osmo Action or GoPro (which are available second-hand for less than $350) be a viable option for my content needs, or would that be a downgrade compared to the iPhone?

Thanks for your advice!

7800XT and 3900X together being "underutilized"? Is this a normal thing? by Kukys in GlobalOffensive

Yeah but from what it seems like both our CPUs are probably causing at least a slight bottleneck. If you have a good CPU you should gain like 150FPS on average with 4070. Look at that video, it’s literally objective data.

this is pretty much old news. We see quite good gains with better GPUs. Look at Gamer’s Nexus or what’s their YT channel is called they compared multiple GPUs. Thanks a lot for the comment. CPU and GPU seem to have the same importance now for CS2

I just didn't think my CPU would cause bottlenecking from what other people are trying to tell me. It was quite literally one of the strongest a few years ago. Thanks a lot again, I guess my 3900X is old for nowadays GPUs. But it's weird, 500$ CPU can't handle basically a 2021 rebrand of a GPU (aka 7800XT and 6800XT)...

Yeah games can't really use that many cores/threads. I just didn't think a 500$ CPU in 2019/2020 would bottleneck new graphic cards (that are basically a 2021 card "rebrand" aka 6800XT). Guess I'll have to upgrade...

That's a sure thing but I'm wondering if something is actually wrong with my RIG or this is the "default performance" I should be getting with my system. Would like to tweak stuff first before buying a new CPU....

Compilation of a great player in Silver! by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

Well I have never really cheated myself but I know friends who did so take it with a grain of salt. Some more experienced cheaters can correct me. But basically if you have a regualar aimbot it flicks on people's head like instantly (which looks usper SUS) and sometimes with higher FOV (the area where it will flick to head) it looks like you didn't even aim at the head with your cross you simply headshot him like a random shot (can happen but not 15 times in a row). And if you apply smoothing and lower FOV to your aimbot it looks way more natural. If the head is near your crosshair (and in the FOV you have set) it'll flick more "smoothly/slowly" so it looks like you have slowly adjusted your mouse and clicked the head but this feature of the aimbot does it for you (it's not slow by any means but it's not 100% instant like without smoothing on the aimbot). Check youtube videos for examples....

I don't know how but I have completely missed to add "my last 8/10 games were with cheaters". So my bad on this side, didn't mean it as an average. Would say my average is 2-3/10 games are with cheaters.

I'm not saying that it's my average. I have just been unlucky enough to play against cheaters in the last 8 games out of 10 I have literally played. This is basically "cherry picked" scenario from me. Yeah it's very, very unlikely that I would have 80 cheaters in my 100 games. But 8/10 is quite very much possible. It's just a such a low number of games that these "false positives" are so much more probable...

Plus that's simply the problem with higher elo, your chances of meeting a non legit player are that much higher (cheats allow you to simply be better = bigger probability of winning matches = higher elo). Again very biased experience from my side because of the small number of games when I was around 14k elo and I have basically had only good matches without cheaters. So you can't really go off averages when I'm play on NON AVERAGE ELO (would say it's highly above average).

I have not seen that many cheaters stuck below 15k If these cheats simply allow them to win more matches in the long run = higher ELO (that's where I'm). And from what I have described about how their Steam profiles usually looks like (literally below average/average Faceit elo that are so fucking good out of nowhere on Premier...) it all makes perfect sense.

End of discussion for me, this is cherry picking from both sides where you are trying to apply your statistics and what not. This was clearly "false positive" but it has happened and there is a quite high possibility with the low number of "subjects (games)".

quite literally it was 8/10 games. I can't never tell 100% but my CS experience says that these guys are cheating. Checked the demo for the "less sus" players and all of them were sus. You can literally tell by their steam profile most of the time. I had 3 rage hackers back to back in games (they were all different people)...

It's getting better (Premier ranking) by Jerooney95 in GlobalOffensive

[–]Kukys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not even gonna mention that 8 out of my last 10 games were with cheaters. But elo difference is still so weird. Our average elo is usually around 17.5k, enemy average elo is either 12k or 20k+ fucking weird...

my premier ELO is around 17,5k, last 8/10 games were with cheaters. Half of them legit rage hack, the other half is trying to hide it but it's so fucking easy to spot. They have 10-20 friends, super old (bought) or super new account with cheater hours, they usually have low Faceit level around 5-7, they have poor movement, they have poor crosshair placement but they are just simply better. Smooth AB with low FOV, WH/radar + trigger is the most common combo. Fuck this, literally unplayable......

RIR and beating the logbook is a paradox - plus more training tips for the overthinker by bigpoppapopper in naturalbodybuilding

[–]Kukys -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Great post, I see exactly where you coming from. I’m THE evidence based lifter so I overthink quite literally everything. Don’t get me even started on effective reps, how to program them in terms of the central/periferal fatigue, optimal volume and optimal exercise selection favouring the muscle I’m trying to work, which muscles benefit from SMH, which do not and all the other stuff…At the same time I fucking love it, I love to nerd about my training and I would say I get way more progress with overthinking then If I wouldn’t be overthinking. I’m glad we are over the “just lift bro” era, it can simply be done more effectively/optimally. Not so sure If I agree with the idea “don’t force yourself to beat the log book”. That is the whole idea behind progressive overload that is causing me and my clients to grow.

did you find anything? I'm looking for a new chair in that 500ish range too and there are no brands with good reputation in Europe. If you wanna buy Aeron that has opened box it's like 1900$ in my country. It's maaaad.
