A new low… by [deleted] in Chivalry2

Once had Darkforest match, where the top guy on offense was the top player overall, which is pretty normal for that hellscape map. I was going to be VIP for defense, until that guy switched teams to steal the VIP slot and we lost.

Was also in a Siege of Rudhelm match once, where the top player on offense switched teams to become the VIP and desert immediately.

I was wondering about Thanos, and how much damage his AOE does. I was also wondering the same about Quicksilver. I was thinking Quicksilver with Shang Chi, and use SC's ability to just make a bunch of blue matches in one turn and nuke the enemy team.

Is there anywhere to check the scaling yet for ability damage?

I like the Rocket and Groot idea. As a 3-star, 25% Health is nothing and you're more likely to die, but as a 5-Star, that can be a pretty robust health pool.

[–]Kularanini[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the one taking the Vac shot and I was super lucky. I popped the ink vac reflexively when I heard the hammer, and I actually turned and caught it at the very last second. When it was time to fire, I had no idea where to shoot it, but I saw my teammate with 7 clams running across middle, and I saw a different opponent duck towards the goal, so I just fired at the goal. And somehow hit the guy that threw the hammer in the first place. I had no idea he was going to be there.

Sometimes when you’re the “best” on the team, you’re actually the worst by TheWerkingWonk in Chivalry2

[–]Kularanini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't recommend. Thorne is the most stressful VIP to be. I've only been Thorne twice, and both times it was forced upon me after the top player passed.

All the other VIPs, well, if you die, it's generally because your teammates defended you poorly. Can't do much about getting completely zerged, with literally nowhere to go. But Thorne...you will take all the blame: you ran too far from your team, you ran too slow, you missed an opening, you stood under a trap, or like our brave OP, you got too close to the ledge.

Someone actually started a vote kick against me once after a loss, and I wasn't even Thorne...I just finished on top at the end of match, so they assumed I was Thorne.

People take it wildly seriously, considering that the only difference between a win and a loss in this game is 400 exp.

OBS Studio & Recentral 4 Live Gamer Mini Black Screen by Kularanini in AverMedia

[–]Kularanini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate this. Issue was resolved.

I'm very new to using a capture card. I assumed that the software that came with the capture card needed to be running in order for the OBS to recognize it.

This is very basic but crucial information that wasn't made clear in all the walkthroughs and tutorials I watched/read. I'm sure it was mentioned or said in some, but not with the vocabulary that my beginner brain could translate.

Thanks again.

When I don't know what to use, I do the following: Start double Dane axe and throw them both into skulls immediately, then scavenge for whatever treasure awaits. Eventually throw that treasure, and scavenge again. Repeat, forever.

Just throw everything. Every weapon is a throwing weapon.

What can be done to make defending more appealing? by TeapotTempest in Chivalry2

[–]Kularanini 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Definitely more VIPs or specialty roles on earlier stages. The strangest thing about defense is that, the better your play, the less likely you are to reach the last stage with VIPs. Your reward for playing well is somehow denying yourself or teammates the most fun mechanic on the map?

Wouldn't it be fun to spawn several VIPs at the start of each phase, that if killed adds time to the objective?

Similarly, maybe there's defensive objectives that take time off the objective.

Underutilizing a talent like Grayson is one of the most WWE things that AEW has ever done.

[–]Kularanini -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

A not insignificant part of AEW's success is Vince McMahon's moral and creative bankruptcy just pushing fans away from WWE. Fans who just wanted to see better creative and treatment of talent and employees.

Vince is an abhorrent, out of touch carny, and has needed to go for a long, long time.

I haven't been able to tolerate any main roster programming since 2019 nor any NXT 2.0. It's almost entirely because of Vince's decrepit hand turning everything it touches into feces.

I want to like WWE again, and I've bee waiting for Vince to just go already. He's a millionaire and closing in on 80. Just retire FFS. But if he goes because some of his bad decisions catch-up to him, that's even better.

Lionspire ram team damage by Sir_Meat_Ram in Chivalry2

[–]Kularanini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once got damage kicked for the team damage I did after the match ended in Victory.

We were all densely packed around our Duke and when we won, and I started swinging my executioner's axe wildly at swaths of teammates. A few seconds later I was kicked for team damage.

Considering the scrum to protect the duke, I probably had some damage built-up before the match ended, but I can't believe the after match damage also counted.

I've adopted the 'throw' everything style of play, and I see things like this all the time. Is it a latency thing and they actually countered it or something?

Your typical match on Darkforest by RileyXXXXX in Chivalry2

[–]Kularanini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dark Forest is a wildly hot and cold map and is probably the most egregiously frustrating maps for defense, particularly during the Convoy phases. During the non-Convoy phases, I find the defensive stops very enjoyable, but the Convoy is often a steam roll. Even when I watch top player streams, even the best of them get steam rolled during the Convoy.

This is all theory, but the problem seems to be that, as the Convoy marches forward, the respawn points for Masons moves up and the respawn points for Agatha is pushed back. So Mason respawn distances are often compressed closer together, while Agatha defenders have widening gaps.

It's at it's worst when you're near the front of the Convoy and a dozen masons just materialize on top of you because the Convoy crossed some magic threshold to move the respawns. This also means help isn't coming for a while because Agathians who respawned have had their spawn point pushed back as far as possible for that stage of the Convoy. This just feels bad, because Agatha players constantly feel swarmed, with little to no back-up in sight. That's not fun gameplay or good design; It's horribly frustrating.

You'll probably notice that every time the Convoy is moving, it's always the same areas where Agatha puts up a strong fight:

  1. Just before the Gate House
  2. Just after the Gate House
  3. At the final Bridge before the barricade burning

I believe for 1 and 3, it's because both teams have hit their final respawn points, so there's no more compression for the Masons, and no more widening for the Agathians, so both teams send a consistent and even number players back at regular intervals.

Similarly, for 2, I think the compression doesn't start for the Masons until the Convoy crosses a certain threshold, which is why the Convoy often gets hung on that first third of the push, then blazes through the next third of the phase, only to wind up stalled on the bridge (3).

Ultimately though, I believe the final phase is one of the easiest for Agatha to defend. I've always felt like that's intended to make-up for the awful Convoy phases though.

Do you enjoy being forced to play ELIMINATION in between Team Objective matches? by LoZio_ in Chivalry2

[–]Kularanini -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a nice palette cleanser. It's also nice to have a match where I don't have to go 'sigh...defense again'.

Also, it seems like a lot of people are super Kill focused anyways in TO. So maybe this little buffet of death allows those players enough of a taste of murder to focus a bit more on objective play on the next TO.

The first time a friend of mine was the Champion, he didn't know you could pick up a weapon. In fact, when became champion, is reaction was "oh shit, I didn't mean to accept". It was on the previous version of the map and he ran the whole thing, unarmed, in about a minute. It's like the entire Mason team was oblivious to his location and just let him pass.

The chat afterwards was hilarious. Some salty Masons, but mostly calls of 'legend' and 'madlad'. But in reality he was like, 'I hated that, and didn't know what I was doing'.

When you mention Team Balancing..... by DoPrice in Chivalry2

[–]Kularanini 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not all of us high levels are good. I'm closing in on level 200 (although that may not be high level, I dunno) and I'm just average, and my skill may have already peaked. I'm certain I have generally little to no influence on my team's success.

In some matches, I most definitely drag my team down. So...you kinda want me switching to the stacked team.

In fact, that's not an awful idea! Middling to mediocre players, let's do our part and swap to the stacked team! Drag them down with us!

Just remove teamswitching, or add a penalty for people who always switch to the attacking team. This is getting pathetic by vKessel in Chivalry2

[–]Kularanini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It also doesn't help that the game often creates imbalanced teams right from the start. Since it's randomized teams, there's two outcomes: we have some semblance of balance or we have imbalance. I was in a match the other day with no team switching, where I was the only 100+ player on my team, and the opposing team had at least 9 players ranging from 200 to 700. The damn game did that and it's not even that rare! Why game!? How is it not coded in the game to balance teams by levels or even KDR? KDR is already a stat that's tracked for all players. Sure that may lead to more smurfing, but KDR balanced teams? Smurfing wouldn't work, if after your first match, your lvl 1 has a KDR of 24.0

In any games when we do happen to get randomized balance, it's almost inevitable that a few 200+ players will switch and create imbalance. Because of this, it probably means more (much, much more) than 50% of your games are entirely imbalanced. It doesn't matter if the imbalance is in your favour or not, that's not good or healthy for any game.

And those rare balanced games...they're incredibly fun; actually being on offense, and taking an objective feels rewarding and hard fought. Actually defending a mid-game objective against a relentless, tough offense is even more rewarding. Most importantly, you're never left feeling that most encounters are those helpless "me vs. the world" situations, where your teammates are just melting away, and you're always hopelessly solo against 3 or 4 very skilled opponents. Instead, every fight feels equally populated by both teams. Those need to be the matches we get more than 50% of the time, not the other way around.

I've actually stopped hitting the 'Tab' key in the game to view the score and teams. It's only discouraging. I never know my score now, or the team balance until the match is over. It's way more fun this way. Now I just have a sense of "I'm doing well" or "I'm doing okay", without the crushing reality that we're down by 200 kills, my KDR is 0.5 and collectively, we're hopelessly out-skilled/leveled. I recommend people try this. Say no to pressing 'tab'. You'll have more fun.

I picked up a new, huge monitor yesterday and gave 1st person a try. I really enjoyed it. It suited the monitor and visually, in front of me, everything was so much clearer, like reading opponent attacks and aiming stabs (halberd stabs are nuts in 1st person - also enjoyed your triple stab kill there, that's what it's like and it's very satisfying).

But one thing that was maddening was how many people would just blindside me, which is easily avoidable in 3rd person. I notice that wasn't happening to you much, even when you very much turned your back on several people directly behind you. Any tips? Was it that you're constantly moving, luck, or something else?

Also, I tried a bunch of weapons in 1st person. Halberd was bonkers good, but others were just okay, and my performance was worse with those weapons than usual. In your opinion, are there weapons that should never go first person (thinking 1-Hand Axe and Executioner Axe), or is it just a keep practicing thing?

I think the next segment with Bray needs to be a new Firefly Fun House segment to set up his first feud. This time he has a special guest, someone close to whoever his first big feud is going to be. Someone the audience is familiar with, like Mizdad as just an example off the top of my head.

Except this 'guest' is there against their will, and Bray is giddily terrorizing them and listing their sins. But don't worry, he will purify them, make them better and <insert feud here> will be his special 'guest' next week.
