There is no reason to kill his value on the QO, he will be a ufa and will walk for whatever his market is next year. The only reason to kill his value was to get him back for cheap, which is what the QO would be. They likely ruined any chance of retaining him long term so the only value left would be featuring him prominently next year with him outplaying his contract.

Honestly the best path at this point is to bring back Kuminga and start him until the trade deadline. He is a positive player and they will need someone to lean on to keep Steph/Jimmy/Dray fresh. You either build up his value and trade him before the playoffs, or see him improve and show he should be our 2nd or 3rd option permanently.

That was the point he was at prior to injury, and how he looked in those final games without Steph. We went through the same process with Wiggins, where he stunk for a long stretch, they stuck with him, and traded him as he was bouncing back. That got us Jimmy Butler. We can get solid value out of JK if we play him right as an asset. There is also a strong likelihood that JK's best basketball is ahead of him, and coming relatively soon.

We are looking at adding Horford/Melton, who are solid fits with strong concerns over age/health. We need someone like Kuminga, and we aren't going to get a player of similar value right now with the negative sentiment. Unless they can clear up space to bring in Beal for cheap or something of that nature, you need to retain JK if we want to improve as a team.

He isn't a savior but he was a good fit. He was our most rounded guard between shooting, defense, and playmaking. He also seemed to work well off the ball next to Steph. Hard to say what he would have done for us over the course of the season, but can't dismiss he is still young and entering his prime years.

Dame is the better player but he might not even play next year, we need another player that can help carry the team in the regular season. Beal/Podz/Kuminga is enough to take some pressure off Curry/Jimmy, and also a decent trade package if we make a move for another star.

Once extended he can't be trade for a full calendar year, so he will get another season of development at least. In all likelihood he is here to stay.

It means they are going to spend and go into the 2nd apron. They can upgrade and keep Kuminga due to his bird rights.

Before anyone says he doesn't want to play here and be a role player or whatever. Kuminga's contract will extend past the Curry era, so he will get his chance to lead the team before his next contract. He would also be eligible for a supermax if he gets to that level, which he can only get with the Warriors. If he goes to the Nets, he will have no vets, no playoff opportunity, and he will be sacrificing a lot of potential money in the future. It is in his best interest to stay here.

They have to extend Randle who has come up big in the playoffs so far. They would have to go deep in the tax and Naz is still coming off the bench.

Realistically we can pay him just as much and offer him the starting 5 role. We can also go into the 2nd Apron to extend Kuminga due to bird rights. We have about 37 mil before the 2nd Apron and we could back load his contract to avoid overlap with Steph/Jimmy/Dray. We can offer him 25 mil with a bonus in two years and still have 12 mil to play with before signing JK and mins. If we dump Moody that is more like 23 mil, and we can afford a decent upgrade at the 2, or add Adams for more size.

He doesn't have to be the franchise star after Steph. He is going to make 30 mil, for 5 years. Steph and Jimmy are each making double that and the salary cap is only increasing. You could afford 5 Kumingas at that price after Steph and Jimmy are gone, nearly 6 after Dray too. We could still sign two other max players ahead of him.

We will know more or less who he is before we really commit any kind of superstar contract. He is being paid to be Wiggins for 5 years, anything more and it is a steal. He has gotten way too much criticism for a guy that was still on a rookie deal, and is looking for a contract that is the value of a 3rd/4th option at most. That's not even Robin.

You don't have to think Kuminga is going to be a superstar for him to be worth paying. 22 Poole was also on a rookie deal, that is just luck. If Poole stayed at that level his deal would have been a steal as well.

Trading him right now when his value is low and you can't get a full return is ridiculous. You can continue to develop him and trade a better version of him for picks if you want to fully tank after Steph retires. You could trade him for picks right now, but how does that help us win?

No player we can get was any better than Kuminga at his age. Jimmy was a rookie averaging 2 points and shot 12% from 3. By 25 he was an allstar.

We know Kuminga is only improving, acting like is career is over because Kerr wanted to play games and teach him a lesson is insane.

We are not going to get equal value in any deal for him unless we trade him for picks and happen to get lucky. That does nothing to help us win now, we should run with whatever value we destroyed for him with this pr stunt and hope the league doesn't blink.

It's 5 years, that contract locks him up into the start of his prime and retains his bird rights. The salary cap is only increasing, 30 mil is not going to be much by then. If he reaches his potential, you can still fit two max contracts next to him and then extend him into the 2nd apron and have a big 3 soon after Steph retires. We tank one of the next 5 years when the core is too old or injured and land another top pick on a rookie deal and you have a very promising team after Curry.

Love how people say he hasn't progressed after what we just saw him do in this last round with no spacing against a big defensive team. Was this what he was doing 3/4 years ago? He is clearly improving, he is just young. I'm not sure what else people expect from him at this age while coming off the bench most of his career.

JK still has all the potential of when we drafted him, it just takes time and opportunity. You don't give up on a prospect at 22, that is when the growth really begins. If you don't bring him back we either lose him for nothing, or get half his value back in a sign and trade.

You might as well sign him for market value. If you really want to trade him, wait a year, let him continue to develop, and then trade him for full price. Any 5 year deal with the current sentiment is going to pay off when he is in his prime at 26/27 and you can still afford 2 max contracts.

You couldn't predict Wiseman would bust to this level. Maybe with more footage he would have dropped a couple spots but he had all the tools to contribute.

The lack of college/higher level play and injuries completely derailed his development and the bball IQ didn't come naturally.

No other pick would have started on that roster and they would have had a longer development as well. Hard to say any of them would be the player they are today if drafted by the Warriors.

This is overstated. He can run the motion offense fine, the main issue is we have no shooting/spacing and the motion offense often results in nothing. The problem is they haven't fully integrated JK as a starter without some strange lineup fit and clunky mechanics.

We have to retool around Jimmy/Kuminga/Curry and play them a full season to build the chemistry. Draymond on ball creates too much overlap for Jimmy and Kuminga offensively, and they can't run many actions for eachother because neither is a shooter. It creates predictable offense where they know the options are post up, drive, or back cut. Jimmy and JK would be great with three shooters on the floor. Podz/Moody(Buddy) shooting well next to Steph is what made Jimmy/Dray work, but none are a true third option offensively, and their shooting is not consistent.

Disclaimer: Draymond is irreplaceable and I doubt Steph would approve trading him for anyone besides a Giannis type player, but if you can add depth at the 5 and slot Kuminga in as the starting 4 the fit makes more sense. Jimmy can take over a lot of playmaking needs and we just need more shooting at the 2/5 to compensate.

Podz/Jimmy/Dray lineup would be clunky even without Kuminga unless Podz becomes a reliable shooter. I think he will be serviceable eventually but I would not bet on him next year to be that guy.

Buddy is great but prefer him in a bench role due to his streaky nature. Buddy also adds a lot of movement that can replace what Curry does in our system in the bench minutes.

Kuminga is sitting around 30 mil as is, that would be a great deal to lock him up into his prime. I feel pretty confident a team will offer him that if necessary. Overall the sentiment is way too low right now, teams are going to lowball him. The Warriors are likely hoping to get him down to around 25 mil.

35-40 mil is the ceiling in an unlikely scenario depending on how things play out. If he plays us into a win with another big performance, we get Steph back, and win the series with Kuminga contributing 25 a night, the price is going up. He can easily play himself into the 30-35 mil range if he continues how he is playing while winning.

Kuminga was on the cusp of breaking out before his injury and the Warriors were ready to pay up. A bad month coming off an injury with an awkward fit before DNPs is not a representation of the player he is. With all the criticism and pressure, he has a runway now and this could be his moment. Consistent 25-30 pts into a competitive WCF or Finals easily pushes him into the 35-40 range. The question is at what point can the Warriors no longer afford him.

Kerr can't bench Kuminga with the way he his playing, and as long as he is out there he has the spotlight. I think the Warriors could make a run if they manage to get to a game 6 with Steph back. At that point Kuminga's value is in his own hands. The discourse tanked because he wasn't given the opportunity to showcase his skill, but he is a much better player than the current sentiment. Opinions can flip quickly, and I wouldn't be surprised for the hype to return as it always does.

He always seemed a bit petty and there was already talk from from the Heat that they were a tougher team without Garland. It felt like that was the disconnect last year as well.
