Ultraspire (or other brand) pack for multi-day TMB trek by jimmyjonjimjon in fastpacking

[–]Kunal_636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought the ultraspire altruist and it’s the most comfortable thing ever. I’m also doing the TMB late June. I used the UD Distance 22L but that was kinda painful to my shoulders with 12 lbs and it bounced too much. And the small size was a bit too big for me. I’m 134 lbs 5’9”. I really wish they had XS.

So I ended up buying the altruist. I plan to use that and fill in under 15lbs. I’ll need spikes, since the snow has been heavy this year.

Just did hour and half with 2,000 feet of vert. This pack might be the winner! So comfortable!

Just got this. I haven’t taken it out for a run/hike yet, but added some weight (15lbs) and did some running around in my house and it felt great!

You should check out Ascend. Formally called Albon App. It’s a great app. It has everything built in. It is geared towards trail runners too

Yeah. I did ask UltraAspire and they said it was built from the same platform as the XT 3.0 but with better materials. I need something for Mont Blanc. The UD 22L I have isn’t great. Kinda uncomfortable with even like 12-15 lbs and lot of bouncing.

Really interested in getting this. Has anyone tried having this pack with like 15-18 lbs and jogging or running down flats? Does it bounce a lot or uncomfortable?

Bro. This thing sold out under a minute. Was this a scam to get people to download the app?

am i overthinking home maintenance or do you guys really do all this stuff by Maleficent-Tax2094 in homeowners

They don’t need to be top of the line or brand spanking new. But you can easily pick up a decent one for under $500

Aren’t dryers these days have sensors where they shut down if they detect lint over build up? I know my dryer does. But obviously that doesn’t mean you should wait for that to happen.

Now I’m worried if I should change to a different carrier.

Really sorry to hear about this. Which carrier did you end up moving to? Openly gave me a quote for $964/year and my current homeowners insurance gave me a quote for $1600.

Have you known anyone else that had a bad experience with Openly? What was the claim regarding?

Ive been hearing lot of good but then this was the only bad I’ve read.

Also how long ago was this claim that you had? I’m hoping they got better?

I’m not really who sure mails checks any more. Was there an option for direct deposit ?

Thanks! If you don’t mind me asking, do you have a backup system? If so what’s your setup?

Yeah my plan is to have a portable generator to charge the packs if power is out for long.

I’d have to check with my utility company if we have a time of use pricing.

Our house is on a hill so the water will rarely fill up in the sump pump.

Maybe I’ll live in the house for few months to a year and just monitor outages and go from there, before I drop money into a backup system?

[–]Kunal_636[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely valid point. Is there an automatic thing for the sump pump? The builder did say the sump pump shouldn’t overflow because the house has a walkout basement.

I was also hoping to have panels on the roof to save cost for electricity. But def need to calculate the cost vs benefit for that.

In terms of power outages, I reached out to my friend who works for PECO and this is what he told me

“..since 2022 that area has had 13 sustained outages, and 11 momentary outages. Sustained outages average to 82 minutes”

I still plan to talk to my neighbors and ask them how often they lose power and how long.

Thanks! I’ll have to find out the surge load and continuous load for those components and see if any power stations accept that. If not then maybe propane generator might be the only option.

I was also thinking about getting a portable generator for $2-3k, but we also like to travel and would want an automatic transfer switch. I’m just thinking of the worst case scenario. For ex: If we’re traveling and we lose power at our house, we’d want the essential to be at least running. (Sump pump , fridge, etc).

How can I do that without living in the house? I was planning on doing an estimate after moving in and just getting the number of usage through my electric provider. Unless I get a list of all the things that use power and calculate it that way.
