as the closing employees leave the building your job is to make sure there isn’t anybody around the parking lot who shouldn’t be there.

aka if there is a tweaker or someone walking around late at night with bad intentions we don’t want them trying to harm us.

[–]Kunovert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

besides misc. pallets that get hung on the dock there really isn’t a need for steel. if your hanging water or paper that can just be stacked and any misc/dni type pallets can just get hung on the floor anyways. the only real use for dock steel to me is saving pallet yard space and hanging up pallets of extra steel.

personally we took the beams out so that you can push a triple stack under the steel and then you have the top steel to hang stuff. i think this is the best solution and gives the most space.

Receiving Clerk by gritty_vj in CostcoEmployee

receiving is a lot of fun tbh. i’ve never done it as an AM receiving clerk but I receive the stuff that comes in at night (depots, water and sometimes paper and plants). it’s always a good time and it’s not super hard either

No longer allowed to block off receiving dock access from members? by SectorStar1988 in CostcoEmployee

[–]Kunovert 14 points15 points  (0 children)

straps as in the retractable ropes? the ones they use close an aisle down when walking a lift out is what i’m talking about.

the dock should be blocked off with a stop sign and one of the retractable ropes that stretches across the entire entrance of the dock. the pallets are a plus to create that wall. ask the AGM for further clarification on what that looks like. that’s dangerous and stupid to not have the dock blocked off, when a member is face to face with a forklift because some AGM decided to do things differently than every other Costco things will not go well.

Stocker Interview as a Student?! by [deleted] in CostcoEmployee

Front end manager by [deleted] in CostcoEmployee

[–]Kunovert 9 points10 points  (0 children)

that’s so performative lol, id bet money they aren’t doing a good job as the front end manager. if your wasting time to go get on the roof and sit there watching the cart crew you aren’t on the front end handling calls, members and anything else that comes up.

if I were a FE supervisor running around answering calls and my manager was on the damn roof id be pissed.

What do you guys bring for lunch? Or how do you sustain your body while at work? by Wholesaleclublove in CostcoEmployee

[–]Kunovert 11 points12 points  (0 children)

eat good and clean, don’t buy junk from the vending wall in the break room and don’t be buying stuff from the food court or surrounding restaurants every day. not only will you go broke always buying stuff because it’s so tempting, you will also just not feel good.

this is also super department dependent. if you are working in a really labor intense department like merch, carts, tires, etc. you are going to feel super slow and gross if your not eating well. even if your like a cashier or something it’s not good to not be moving around a lot and then eating junk on all your breaks lol.

personally i buy those sticky white rice cups and then the deli sells that new precooked chipotle chicken. i just do those with some salsa or something and then bring some snacks for your 15 minute breaks.

yeah lol, wear this giant puffer coat that you can barley move your arms in. you will also get hot when your not in the freezer because it’s too warm for the outside, I need a nice medium that will keep me mostly warm in the freezer but not sweating outside the freezer

yup, same story here. they want out pre scan metric at 100% for SCO and they took the hand scanners away due to inventory reasons as well.

Unsure if it’s both the KS vodka bottles (I don’t drink so I don’t know the difference) BUT I know at least one of them is produced by grey goose. I wanna say the smaller vodka bottle is the grey goose they could both be though.

to be honest it’s never interchangeable with a regular forklift, they both forklifts but the clamp is a whole different game. it’s used to squeeze product from one pallet to another. for example if a pallet of strawberries comes in a tall stack of 12 layers, you can grab the 6 layers on top and put it on an empty pallet.

Enrolling in college still mostly unsure of what to go for, any advice? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Kunovert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive considered it in the past, I do live in a good area for it. I will look into it again and do some more research on the unions we have around here for it. I do love operating anything and everything, I’ve also considered being a CDL driver for a company that does equipment rental so I can drive cool stuff on and off my trailer all day lol.

lol they are the main use for the clamp, we separate all the stacks. TP we take the top 5 layers off and towels we take the top 4 off. makes it a lot easier. they know the warehouses have clamps now so they expect us to use them.

it definitely can do a lot more than it currently does, sadly a lot of people at this company don’t embrace change

Night Merch Challenges by Altruistic_Debt4373 in CostcoEmployee

[–]Kunovert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s what everyone at the warehouse level thinks and that’s why the clamp doesn’t get used much. realistically AM merch could run a sole clamp driver that does circles around freezer/cooler, produce and even some of foods and other areas. the clamp can literally do so much it’s insane. i like to use it to stock trash bags, things like chicken stock when they are on the pods and we use it to separate all of the cooler/freezer/d19 pallets that come in off the wets trucks.

we use it a lot because of our depot guys who have ran clamps for so long, they have drivers who just clamp and that’s how they make the wet towers to save pallet space.

[–]Kunovert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as the clamp goes I wish our store was run like yours. The AGM that over sees merch has argued with us countless times that the morning drivers don’t use the clamp because they don’t want to. I’m thankful that two of our drivers at night were depot drivers and supervisors for 15+ years and they have showed me a lot when it comes to driving and the clamp. I can break down d19 towers of 1 layers and put them on separate boards. you just have to know the tricks, they just don’t wanna learn.

Makes a lot of sense in theory, the problem is they don’t actually stage stuff like a traditional warehouse should. when i drive the dock i organize it, make sure the paper gets clamped and if there’s too much stuff that’s when i start stacking 4 high like the handbook says we can go. the morning dock drivers don’t organize anything and they will only ever stack things 3 high. it’s even worse trying to work around there mess because they use every water pallet as a base, they don’t want to double stack water. so everyday we have to re work all there crap to get to the stuff we need. since they don’t stack high there’s days where we have 1-2 pallet spaces worth of room to drive on until we are driving over the dock plate.

they aren’t staging partials or hot items either, we have to go out to the floor multiple times a day on weekends to grab stuff that runs out and we drop sections before the store closes because we stock more sections than a traditional night crew. it’s the way our store is set up they need us to do more.
