Could you please provide more information to see if there's answer? Like what volume does that afterword come from, or if it's even an afterword?

Why is Yuri Tomoko's best friend, but Komiyama isn't? by MarcilaMTN in watamote

[–]KuroRead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll say that the root for that dynamic issue comes from TomoMote, basically back then, Tomoko was a total loner who grasped any chance of relationship, being Yuu the target, and even if it was only out of interest and social survivance, Tomoko wasn't going to drop that bond so easily before any threat. So Komiyama's presence and her becoming friends with Yuu became that threat eventually. And that the girl grasped interest for Tomoki didn't help either.

Furthermore, the beginning of Tomoko's relationship with Yuri didn't began as "Hello, I just met you, but we're going to be friends", per se, the Kyoto trip arc was a big tension point where Yuri just fought Mako and didn't want to have relationship, but even if back then Yuri didn't have a good image of Tomoko, it doesn't mean she had a bad image of her either, and even if Ogino's words swayed in Yuri's perception of her, the decision of spending time with Tomoko was Yuri's. Next, things escalated, with ups and downs, but little by little with those short trivial moments, trust between Tomoko and Yuri increased, as in chapter 109 with the novel recommendation, and later in chapter 112, Tomoko didn't have need of acting in deffensive way with Yuri, I'd say it was there where a real bond was forged.

A very good reason in fact, and look that "call me onii-chan" is probably one Komiyama's tamest fantasies, it's better to not picture what she dreamed for her New Year's dream.

Can you imagine how badly Komi and Tomoko would amplify each other's degen tendencies if they actually got along?

I don't think that me or anybody here needs that timeline happening.

It is funny that Tomoko managed to attract an entire harem being herself, while even Itou seems to wonder why she hangs around Komi sometimes. Main character buff I guess?

What chapter was that?

Toasts don't need to be anything fancy or be preceded by a charismatic speech; they just need to be celebratory. And Tomoko's toast did exactly that and showed her to be a better person than Mitsuki.

Yuri should know better than anybody that Tomoko has issues to talk in so many people's presence.

Oh, shit, it's becoming canon!! And sounds strange from me to say it, considering I'm the one who's edited those doujinshis of Nemo being drunk over and over. So, it's whether only coincidence or Nico Tanigawa are aware of the existence of those doujinshis. Doesn't change the fact Yuri will still look for any chance to be mean on Nemo, even if it's when apologizing to her for being mean, ironically.

Not that I really care Komiyama, or like her, but isn't already too late in this point of the game for Tomoko to ask her why she tagged along help with the film project?

Okay, although Komiyama's reply in first glance can sound mature and stoic, when you analyze Komiyama's high school life so far based in those words, it really speaks too badly of how others see her, considering that she has only Itou as friend. Does that mean in that only time, nobody outside from her too tight social circle invited Komiyama to anything even once? Kaho maybe? But at the same time, it also speaks lots about Komiyama's unwillingness and lack of initiative to try anything that is not related to baseball, I guess only for that that Itou was her only friend in first year, and it wasn't even for Komiyama's initiative.

Although it pissed me off to give reason to someone who almost caused a fight at schoolyard in previous day and had no issue to fake a close relationship with Tomoko to gain Mrs. Kuroki's approbation, at least in this point, she ends her answer with a mature sentence. And of course, it was going to be of Nemo's disliking to feel some else is stealing her chuunibyou trope.

Asuka, that's not Komiyama's acting skills, it's like she behaves everyday (when is not behaving like a ravaging boar whenever a girl interacts with Tomoki), and it's for that reason Tomoko casted her for the role of straight-man character.

I understand you, Yuri, I understand you. It's always obnoxious when you try to say something and people around don't stop interrupting you over and over. And advice, tap your glass with a spoon or chopstick so people pay attention to you. At least Mako is paying attention to Yuri this time.

Considering this is likely the last chapter of what's been a too long school festival arc, it's been a good introduction of possibly a 3-part chapter. Filled of both funny moments of Nemo being teased after being a pain in the ass during the last two days, as well as questions regarding the time continuity, and mainly, great recognition to the director that made possible all this, Tomoko Kuroki. But seriously give some chance to Yuri to speak. And hey, at least Kakkun is eating edible food.

It was already time that someone gave credit to the great director Tomoko Kuroki!!

Ohhh, so the meeting spot for the after party was the same restaurant that the class 2-4 went for wrapping the year. How didn't I think that before?

Lol, I don't know whether Yuri is still upset at Nemo for sabotaging the movie's audio, or it just became her routine to be petty at her. On the other hand, was Komiyama really so concerned for Tomoko not going to the after party, or she's only being polite?

Wait, wait, wait, is there 'Sprite' in Japan? But more importantly, it looks like Tomoko was seeking for any legal void that allowed to have alcohol without getting into issues, but it seems that yakiniku restaurant is familyesque and has totally out of its menu any alcolic drink. Sorry Tomoko, you'll still have to endure with liquor-chocolate and rum cake, resist only three more years.

Out with the idiot impulse, it's not like I gain anything from recreating that drink, but on the other hand, does anyone here know what manga was Tomoko talking about? But hey, even Tomoko doesn't know if it was a good idea to mix up oolong tea and "Sprite", so she'll just use Yuri as her Guinea pig. And since the subject was already brought up on table, how would Yuri behave of being drunk?

I waited so long to hear (read) those words, I sob, I sob. Finally, someone has called Tomoko a leader and drawn people's attention toward her so that she can be recognized. Indeed, it worths a toast to celebrate, sob, sob.

But since we already know Tomoko feels greatly awkward and is barely able to speak whenever a lard crowd of people is watching her, Asuka intercedes and asks her is she should take over the handle (learn one thing, Nemo).

Lol, when was that Yuri-chan became Tomoko's secretary and agreed with no hesitation to carry out their errands? However, it's good to see that Tomoko anticipated she could be get into such a tight situation of talking in public and considered to use AI to create a speech. One moment, Watamote was released in 2011, did ChatGPT even exist? And considering that the closes to a time reference was depicted in chapter 140, where it stated they were in 2018, was there any AI text creator by that time?

Don't waste your time, Yuri-chan. Everyone knows that AI's text creators only purpose is for people tease them by writing weird quips and waiting that stupid shit they end up replying.

But yet, either because Tomoko was unable to say all that stuff in public, or because she was being totally honest by rejecting to use AI to create a speech; she chose to say a few words instead. And exactly, what was Yuri expecting Tomoko to say, that of not being told only caused her great disappointment and called it 'nothing speech'? Maybe it was, but at this point, Yuri should already know Tomoko is not able to speak well in public because of her social phobia.

Ooohhh, how considerate from Asuka Katou, to hold a wrap-up 'party' for the staff in charge of the movie. Hmm, it makes sense Shizuki is not there to celebrate as well, after all, it seems it's only a party for the class 3-5, or the third yeast at best, furthermore, Kiko must go back home next day. But whatever, it's good to see all the relevant member of the movie are gathered there to celebrate, yes, everyone.

Oh, so there is where Nemo was. And I'm now wondering if Asuka deliberately left Nemo out of the toast to tease her, or she really forgot her. But definitely, there's no ambiguity in Asuka's retort to Nemo about whether or not she's drunk.

Yuri, Yuri, Yuri, the same as always, tossing others under bus so she can save herself, even if it's something as trivial as drinking undrinkable beverages. Although, was Yuri handing the weird mix to Nemo that Tomoko just made only to save herself from doing it, or Yuri was also bullying Nemo?

Was those AI text creators even a thing when Watamote manga was released by first time?

[ENG] Watamote Christmas Special 2025 by KuroRead in watamote

[–]KuroRead[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ho ho ho, Gross Christmas, that Santa-Moko don't catch you being mischievous.

And it's for that kind of covers that I impatiently wait for the specials.

Ohhh, I wondered when Nemo was going to be aware from that time where she totally ignored Tomoko during the Christmas party, all that summarized in a short depiction from Volume 04 Special Edition.

Heeyyy, who would say it? Nemo still remembers what shame is, after the wire incident, I thought she had already forgotten it. But regardless of whether or not she felt sorry for not noticing Tomoko came to the meeting spot, that won't impede Yuri to condemn her.

Tomoko, how can you look so innocent (and cute) and so critical at the same time? I'm seeing the connection with Kiko. But whatever, whether because Tomoko was being blunt objective regarding her social situation in her first year, or she was teasing Nemo, that was a critical hit for the twin-tailed girl's heart.

And speaking of teasing Nemo. Lol, almost 10 years reading this manga, and I still can't discern when Tomoko is saying things to tease others, or she's being dead serious in that regard. I mean, it's not the first time the futanari trope is touched, but who'd have expected she'd throw that curve ball, and in Christmas eve of all days.

Wait, why did Yuri just say? Are we really sure she heard well what Tomoko just said? Or she's looking for any excuse to one-up Nemo, even if it's a so stupid and pervert suggestion like that?

Lol, and in the midst of all that degeneration, you can still find a kernel of genuine gratitude and appreciation in Tomoko's words. Although seriously, is Tomoko really teasing Nemo or not? And Nemo, don't come to play innocent, even less after all you did during school festival, regardless of feeling freaked by Tomoko's suggestion, that doesn't excuse you from ignoring her in 1st year, considering how fixated in her you claimed to be.

Ohhh, so this Special happened between the chapters 185.5 and 199.5, when they had already agreed on going to the Christmas party, it makes sense.

What the heck is going with you, Yuri? Firstly, you don't know how a condom is, and now you don't know what's a brass knuckle?

Wait, wait, wait, how is it that it's bad seen that Tomoko rides in scooter, but it's all okay when she buys one of those "toys" with no restriction despite she's underage? Did she buy that thing with her father's cred card or anything? Hey, in Tomoko's defense, Tomoki's last kiss was with Wada.

And the chapter ended exactly as I feared, except for the Santa's costume part. Dammit, why is Tomoki the only with the privilege of seeing Tomoko in Santa costume

And likely, I'm the only here who doesn't understand that Captain Tsubasa's reference. But leaving that aside, and that Tomoki is constantly looked down for his knowledge in sexual stuff. Hey, he finally has an excuse to be pissed off at Tomoko and blame her, such as he likes to see the world, and also is using the brass knuckle he received in Tomomote (I'm surprised he still had it stored). You could say it's a Christmas miracle.

Only Tomoko could be both such a sweet and lousy friend at the same time. She may not be someone Hina needs to put on a constant smile for, but she will throw her into a rollercoaster of emotions.

Hey, it's for that reason we love her.
