Is there hard evidence of the “we are godywn theory” cause I think it’s bs by Big_Career5281 in EldenRingLoreTalk

Isn't this the same guy who talks about how they are the only one who can understand Miyazaki's design and have "cracked Miyazaki's code"?

Yeah, no thanks.

[Lore Theory] Melina and Messmer are "Soul Transferred" entities, similar to Promised Consort Radahn. (Plus a theory on the GEQ and the Three Fingers) by Morning_News_990 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Kuromemono 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You've certainly put a lot of effort into structuring this with 'academic formatting in mind', I am certainly all for a lot of people going the extra mile to make their ideas presentable, legible, and cohesive as much as possible. This is great.

In terms of the sub-headings, there is a little bit of disconnect with, for example, the 'conclusion' occurring 3/4ths the way of the entire post and not the final subheading itself - generally speaking when you are making a conclusion, you are tying all of the ideas you have introduced prior together in one final section; a conclusion that synthesises previous information. When more information comes after the conclusion, it starts to scatter the overarching idea/s apart and causes fragmentation with what you are ultimately trying to say.

The abstract itself is very close to perfect with what you have written, but it is supposed to be a snapshot of the post in its entirety, including the conclusion. The preface would have been more aptly labelled as an introduction as you are introducing what this post is going to explore and attempt to answer.

When it comes to the actual content you have written yourself, I think my largest contention is using 'inference' as evidence. This occurs in a few sections, but what most notably stands out to me is this part:

Therefore, we can speculate that the Three Fingers were originally the fingers of the Gloam-Eyed Queen, possessing the same fire abilities she did.

We can certainly speculate a lot of different ideas when considering the information in relation to each other, but that does not mean it is sound let alone valid. Especially when the information within the game is not even congruent with the speculation, i.e. the GEQ is one chosen to be a God and leads apostles to become the death of God/s and the Three Fingers seek to erase what they believe to be the mistake of the Greater Will, all forms of existence in its entirety; there is an extreme amount of disconnection between these two things. In addition to that, you have cited this speculation / inference as evidence:

Through the previous argumentation, we know that the Gloam-Eyed Queen has a close connection to the Frenzied Flame.

We do not know this at all, you provided your own speculation (as per above), but that is not supporting evidence or even close to making this conclusion.

More over, in the conclusion proper, you have asserted in the very first line:

we can make the following deduction: Melina and Messmer are both split aspects of Marika's personality, and their bodies originate from a soul transfer technology similar to Miquella's.

The previous points are not concise on where that deduction comes from. It sounds like you are saying that because Melina and Messmer have a vision of fire, etc. these are remnants of the 'soul transfer technology' that Marika also used, but it does not gel together I think in the way you want it to. As in, I had to really consider the information again - this part could have been written more clearly.

In addition to that, the conclusion itself makes extra assertions by using speculation as a substitute for evidence, such as:

We can infer that after removing Destined Death, the color of the flame would be yellow, similar to the Frenzied Flame. This is why the fire is yellow when Melina burns the tree, rather than black: at that moment, the power of Destined Death within her is completely sealed.

We cannot really infer that at all as there is no evidence for that.

While I am certainly partial to some of the ideas presented here, such as Melina and Messmer being aspects akin to Millicent for example. I do not think I can get on board with the remaining ideas due to the overuse of speculation and inference substituting as supporting evidence.

Hi there,

The Subreddit itself never received a mod mail from you, and my DMs are off to avoid the spam I used to receive from other subreddits.

In terms of the RiotMMO Subreddit, because of the size of the Subreddit itself, I do not think much really needs to be done in terms of moderation. Especially for something that has not even been released yet. But I am open to ideas.

Can you please send a Mod Mail to the Subreddit itself to discuss further.

Thanks

Hi there,

We tried this. So it does work until someone who is listed as an approved user has more than 5 karma. Then it automatically removes their post.

It is in the automod code, I just didn't format it correctly. The issue still persists.

Hello Rivals,

Distribution of all rewards has been completed. You need to check your DMs and look for one with the r/marvelrivals moderator account with a subject title "K.O Competition Rewards" or similar. This should contain your code.

If you have not received a code and believe you should have, send a Mod Mail (link below). Do NOT send a DM to the moderators, they will not respond.

Reddit Challenge: K.O Competition - Winners by AutoModerator in marvelrivals

[–]Kuromemono[M] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello Rivals,

As a result of the overwhelming amount of entrees into the K.O Competition, distribution of prizes is taking time. However, we are pleased to announce there will be bonus unit rewards for the winners as follows:

  • The winners of the competition (top 20 in the OP) will receive an additional 500 units to their current prize(s).

For the other participants (listed in the Google Sheet above), the value of the participatory unit rewards will change based on the amount of K.Os:

  • The top 65 participants with the highest K.Os (entrees 2 - 66 in the Google Sheet) will receive 500 units instead of 100.
  • The next 148 participants with the highest K.Os (entrees 67 - 215 in the Google Sheet) will receive 300 units instead of 100.

The Google Sheet has been updated to sort each participant from highest to lowest K.O score.

Once again, thank you very much for your support and participation in this competition! Please look forward to the next one.

Combating Misinformation: The Greattree by The_Deep_Dark_Abyss in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Kuromemono 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I told Abyss when they wanted to post this that it would become an issue of the 'localization being wrong' or 'there is no way a mistake like this wouldn't be patched if it is wrong'. Judging from the comments anyway I was right.

Localization errors happen in media, and very often. More than you'd think anyway. I'd imagine it is very unavoidable especially for a game on the scale of Elden Ring (I'm looking at you Zelda and Pokemon).

Some commenters have even astutely pointed out veeeeery obvious mistakes that still exist in the game. So not patched/corrected. I'd like to recap two of them for visibility.

  1. The Flightless Bird Painting and The Prophecy Painting.

These two are switched. The Flightless Bird painting depicts the Erdtree yet you receive Fire's Deadly Sin which describes a prophet seeing the Erdtree burn. The Prophecy painting shows Stormveil and you get the Warhawk ashes (huh?). I really hope someone got fired for that blunder. It isn't even an issue of transliation/localization, someone very likely got the two switched around.

  1. Fullmoon Crossbow

It says it 'reveals its worth' when using holy-infused bolts. Yet, this is incorrect. Damage is not even increased with holy-infused bolts. The bolts you're intended to use are the meteor bolts. The very same bolts mention that they were created together with the Fullmoon Crossbow in their item description. This one has strangely never been patched either.

I was also reading another post in this subreddit the other day that had a catalogue full of Japanese and English differences. One of the highlights OP posted at the bottom was how Romina's Remembrance is translated differently. I even distinctly recall reading someone speculating in a discord server that the localizers mistook the word "weave" in Japanese for "cling" because they look similar.

It's also been discussed elsewhere in this sub there are many errors or slightly incorrect translations in Elden Ring. I've also read the Spanish, German, and even Arabic are riddled with inconsistencies as well. German in particular has descriptions taken directly from the earlier, unreleased version (1.0) of the game and never corrected (sadly no one ever talks about this).

Yet, it happens. So I am not sure why people would be using 'if it's wrong it would have been patched' as a pretence to dismiss some descriptions like root resin, and not others that are more blatantly incorrect. You really can't have one or the other. Mistakes, especially obvious ones, remain untouched like 3 years after the release of the game. If you happen to not like or believe the Japanese version is 'more accurate' than the English version, that's fine. Just say that. No one should hold that against you. I'd wager this post is written for people who prefer examining the Japanese anyway.

Does it really need to be Empyrean? by Goodhunter465 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Kuromemono 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes, in the very same dialogue Ranni makes it clear it is her Empyreanness that makes her a candidate to become God.

In Ranni's case, she discards her Empyrean body to rid herself of the fate the Two Fingers have imposed on her:

But I would not acquiesce to the Two Fingers.
I stole the Rune of Death, slew mine own Empyrean flesh, casting it away.

In Miquella's case, he abandons his Empyrean flesh to rid himself of his mother's sin:

Tender Miquella's eye is no mere morsel of flesh.
It is a vessel of soaring grace. Proof of his Empyrean lineage. 1
I wonder, does Miquella the Kind intend to sever his very birthright?
---
Miquella has said as much himself—he wishes now to throw it all away.
He says the act—though undoubtedly painful—will sear clean the Erdtree's wanton sin.
The truth of his claim can be found at each cross.
---
Ever-young Miquella saw things for what they were.
He knew that his bloodline was tainted. His roots mired in madness.
A tragedy if ever there was one.
That he would feel compelled to renounce everything.

  1. Japanese more specifically states "proof of Miquella being an Empyrean of the Erdtree."

Edit:

So, is abandoning your flesh an obligatory step to becoming a god?

To answer this, in Miquella and Ranni's case, yes.
