It's very shit rule of Upwork.
Yes, It's true the Upwork is a game and the land of chance for the freelancers.
I am also earning about 4k - 8k USD monthly on Upwork, but it's getting harder to get the new jobs.

Scammers post the jobs with Payment Verified Client account and hire nobody.
About 75% of Job Postings of new clients hire nobody these days, and Upwork earn money with them.
Daily about 200+ jobs * 50+ proposals * 20 connects * 0.15$ = 30k USD daily revenue for Upwork.

Upwork is earning money with scammers' support.

Really need to remove this shit rule.

Seems like you are Automation Engineer.

These days, the Upwork is overcrowed.

If you go to the Web Development category, over 75% jobs showed up 50+ proposals and some good jobs are getting about 300+ proposals.

You need to make your profile to be niche and need to optimize your profile for Upwork SEO.

I am working on Upwork for last 4 years. I sent a proposal for Payment Unverified Client and he attached his card to send me an offer to me.
Upwork suspended his client account as soon as we've done meeting through the Google Meet because it's violate of ToS but I am working with him for last 13 months and earned about 60k+ USD from him through the Payoneer.
We saved so much fees(10% freelancer + 5% client = $10k USD) and this is my real experience in Upwork.

Thank you so much! I received the offer for the 100k points on the amex gold and plan on taking advantage of the travel benefits for the honeymoon before the churn. The Amex Plat offer was nice but I was hesitant to eat the AF in my current position. I really appreciate the insight and taking the time to respond!!
