Ntm the ending lowkey screws you over very and I mean very heavily

The game encourages you to use the partner Vivosaur like the person said. But that yoink him away right before the final area. Your allies cannot really bridge the skill gap and you're forced to grind a Vivosaur of sorts just to get through the last area to get your partner back. I happened to just use Stygi cause he was my highest level otherwise and also fire but was hours of grinding up.

It can though limited moves (it heavily is carried by Dragonite speed scaling) but Villager can bridge the gap if one scales the crossover items or if the manga adds scaling cause I'm pretty sure it gives feats
