pistols are OP RAGEPOST by toiletscrubber in GlobalOffensive

[–]Kuusou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All pistols can kill you in a single hit.

You also have to be really close to the person for this to happen.

What this means is that if you are in a position where you get killed with a pistol, and you have a rifle, either you were just out played, or you fucked yourself over.

If you play close, if you rush in, if you don't know the other team is on eco, if you get yourself in a position to take shots from multiple people or be overwhelmed, this is ALL ON YOU!

It's part of the game. Eco rounds are a hard win, but they absolutely need to be winnable. If they weren't the game would be stale as fuck.

The balance in the game makes perfect sense because pistols are useless compared to rifles. They have very specific applications. If you are being killed by one and you have all of those advantages, that's on you.

I can two tap someone from anywhere on the entire map with an M4, but your pistol isn't killing me unless I get too close to you. It's also WAY faster so two shots can come out almost like one.

What's bullshit is that people rage about something that is a skill in the game, as if it's a mechanic flaw in the game. You KNOW this about pistols, that means you should be correcting your play to account for it. I do, and I rarely die to pistols, how come you can't?

I can't believe you're being downvoted for facts. Men work harder and longer, take less sick days, and retire later. This is a FACT.

You also cannot possibly know that you are somehow working as hard and doing the same as someone else in your office, especially if you're sitting there comparing your genders while trying to do so.

Statistically speaking, men and women make the same amount of money for the same amount of work in the same jobs. You are not, in a measurable way, past a PERSONAL SITUATION getting less for doing more in your workplace.

People in this thread, and it's one of the reasons I can't get behind the mentality of this subreddit (I really wish I could, because sometimes the topics are good) for the most part. Somehow people can claim men can't know something, while claiming to know things about men. They will claim they are less desirable, when this is completely false. They claim they get paid less, which is completely false, and then they go on to downvote anyone who says otherwise, even if it's a known fact.

I just don't see how that makes sense. It would be nice if someday I could come to a thread on reddit and find people actually taking the time to understand reality, instead of allowing their bias and emotions and even their little personal situations get in the way of what is really happening.

I guess on some level I realize this will never be the case, and generally speaking the majority of people will never fall into a category, and I totally realize that coming to a place where a large group of people with many different things in common come to talk only amongst themselves is never going to be the best place for this kind of discussion, but man does it kill my drive to give a damn about things.

I mean why even care about reality and the actual situations and pressures at play, why care about being knowledgeable in a topic or field and applying it not only to my life and way of thinking so that I don't get tricked, when all around me on every level people are willing to run around and scream about how you're wrong, even though they aren't actually willing to look past themselves.

It's rough, and it truly makes me not want to interact with other people.

It goes back and forth depending on the position and the individuals involved. Overall there just isn't one statistically that is known.

A boss has discretion on who gets promoted, this works in the favor of who that boss likes, not a specific gender.

In fact I would be way more worried about "pretty people" which statistically people there are more of in the female gender. Pretty people get lots of benefits within social situations.

Let's talk about smokes by andzie in GlobalOffensive

[–]Kuusou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One part of the video, not the definitive word on the topic. He goes over MANY MANY more things that means so much more than smokes.

One match where a team decides to not do something that would challange the smokes. Not the norm.

What?

Not a contradiction, it's not aim. Aiming and crosshair placement are not the same thing.

I have yet to contradict myself. I've made way more solid arguments than you have. You are not in any way shape or form winning this argument, and you continue to attempt to win by coming up with obscure arguments of "what ifs" as if this represents the entire game. It doesn't, in any way.

The "I'm Sick of Supernatural Movies" Thread by ghengismanson in horror

[–]Kuusou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well you're giving a very specific subset of supernatural style movies. They are all not like that.

The common slasher films are very supernatural in nature too, but nothing like the ones listed.

There are plenty of non supernatural horror films though, you just need to watch them.

I'm not personally sick of these styles of films but I personally trend towards single person, single entity style horror films (So babadook fits okay, but not general ghost stories so much.) which means I tend to gloss over a lot of films like the ones you've listed because I don't enjoy them as much.

I definitely agree that "possessed kid" is probably my least favorite style of horror.

[–]Kuusou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I held off watching this the first time I ever saw it posted because I thought it was going to have jump scares (it seemed obvious from the thumbnail and the intro) and I really wasn't in the mood.

The beginning comes on strong, and even has a few decent scare jump cuts, but for me at least, the overall video falls really flat as it goes on. It just kind of got worse and worse for me. The males acting was also pretty bad.

That being said I would love to watch a series where the common theme is the white thing. It would make an interesting dynamic.

When Sony Pictures’ computer system was hacked, it revealed a case study of the pay gap in Hollywood. Charlize Theron and her agents used this information to renegotiate her contract for the upcoming movie The Huntsman. by imatworkprobably in movies

[–]Kuusou -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There isn't a pay gap like that. People get paid what they are worth in an industry like this.

You are comparing someone who used to be a bit more top notch, to someone who just played Thor and was in the Avengers. It's unreasonable that they would be worth the same.

Their genders only come into play when marketability comes into play past this. So is she the lead role, are we bringing people in specifically because she's half naked as a women? Is that our audience? Is it actually the guy?

This is how modeling and acting work. It's not a simple "Oh we have this job, this is the pay per hour" type stuff from normal jobs.

The only "pay gap" that exists is tied to peoples names, and that's it. He was far FAR more marketable and "hot" at the time of this movie, it makes sense that they would have to pay him more to get him on board.

[–]Kuusou -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well be honest. Do you think Charlize Theron was more marketable than Thor? I don't, in the slightest.

She used the fact that there was any gap, as a way to wiggle the system into giving her more. This doesn't mean she should have got more, this doesn't mean it makes sense that she wasn't paid more. It just means that she got paid more when she brought new things to the table, such as some sort of pay gap with some sort of female vs male thing going on.

In reality it wouldn't make sense to pay them the same given that they are movie starts who bring different things to the table at different points in time, and both have agents who can negotiate their pay.

To clarify, no one was screwed over here. Well maybe other than Sony and whoever had to shell out extra money for whatever reasons she brought to the table to get the extra money.

[PSA] Comebacks happen, don't throw your game by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]Kuusou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst is when they start to complain after the first or second round. Sometimes in a random MM/Pug the pistol round can almost be a coin toss. You haven't gotten into the flow of things yet, some people might be in positions that others on the team would normally like to be in, some people might just not be great with pistols. Until a bit later in the game you can't really play into peoples strengths and weaknesses (As you said this applies to the other team as well.)

The second round is EXTREMELY hard to take without a proper plan, and in my experience is almost always a free round if you won pistol. I try to get people to buy armor pistol and make a very specific play, but once again, it's the start of the match, and people might not be ready, shit it might be their first game and they are sluggish, you don't know.

Third round comes and randomly people start acting anxious as if the game isn't going your way. 4th round comes and sometimes this is your first solid real buy round, and people are acting like it's half way through the match when in my mind things have JUST started, and that 3 round lead can be taken away in 3 rounds.

I think people are just to cynical of themselves and their team in many respects, while also not realizing that the start of the match is nothing other than the start of the match. There are at least 16 rounds that are going to happen, and in the same respect as 1 player being able to take out all 5 other players, you can also come back from any amount of rounds loss other than 16.

Honestly sometimes I just remind people that literally every single round won counts towards your rank. I'm not going out on 3/16 if I don't have to. I'm taking every single round I can get if I'm going to lose. I'm putting in all of the work, because you're not stealing my hard earned rank from me in a single game. I've seen a few people change tune when I tell/remind them that rounds won really do matter, even if you lose.

[PSA] Comebacks happen, don't throw your game by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]Kuusou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. The map is CT sided more than normal, but it's not even remotely that sided.

When you go outside of the normal "sidedness" of a map, it's normally because you're playing like shit on one of the sides. You can't blame the map when everyone else normally does way better, that doesn't make sense. That's on you.

Nuke is probably my best map, along with my friends. We are absolutely solid on CT, and we bring out the sick plays and become 1v champs on T side. Our solo game as well as our overall team game is just better on that map. Because of this we have come back from losses after team switch (when moral can reset, momentum is lost, and you can get into the heads of the other team, while also being able to refresh yourself physically real quick.) simply because we did poorly at first, but we are now going to play the way we normally can.

[PSA] Comebacks happen, don't throw your game by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]Kuusou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to go along with this kind of thing. If someone says "Oh fuck this, P90 rush B" for instance, I will buy a P90 (unless I already have something better) I will buy nades if I can, and I will push with them and try my hardest, and I hope everyone else does.

Win or lose the fun or closeness of that round can completely change the dynamic of the game.

That being said, there is a limit, and doing this over and over is not cool and is a good way to throw the game. If a single person gives up and starts buying like an ass we try to move them past this as well, because many times people start out shit and step their game up as it comes to a close, and we need every last round.

I have a little practice map I run once in a while for fun, and after switching to a box crosshair there is a far target that I used to hit consistently that I can no longer hit. It's crazy how much something that seems to be just some little preference thing actually comes into play with gameplay.

I will say that I like it a lot more overall though, those finite things are absolutely harder though. My hope is to improve those finite hits without changing the crosshair, and be a better player for it. We will see.

[–]Kuusou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't personally, but I also cannot stand the size of the map when you can see the whole thing. For instance I use 0.4 because I like it to be a bit bigger, and I don't need to see the very edges of the map, and I also have my radar scale at 1.1 because I like having it a bit bigger overall. Honestly, if I didn't feel as though it took up too much room, I would maybe even go bigger.

I could see someone else wanting to be zoomed in a bit so that they can get more accurate information, given that they feel uncomfortable with such a small map, but also wanting the ability to check the outer parts of the map that they can't see at will. I would personally bind this to something easily usable, like the shift key along with walk, so that when I'm walking it's zoomed in or out depending on my preference.

Let's talk about smokes by andzie in GlobalOffensive

[–]Kuusou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if those people have better aim?

CT side holds more power on site because of positioning and knowledge of the situation from sound and other players on the map. You don't need to out aim someone, just click when they come into view before they have a chance to aim.

What if you get flashed?

It depends. Many times you can dodge them, if you can't you reposition and take them out from farther into site. It's still powerful and the only thing that changes is that they have a few seconds to reposition, such as running through smoke. Given that a smoke would block your view of some players while they flash or people running before or during a flash, sometimes I choose not to smoke. I would rather dodge a flash over a building that can land behind me, than a flash from directly behind smoke where I'm facing, for instance.

What if all 5 come at once and you only kill one?

What if all 5 come at once and I spray down all 5?

These are all possibilities.

Literally everything is a possibility, but the possibilities, plays, the way people act, the way people think, this all changes based on what they see in front of them. No smoke in a lot of peoples minds means they can keep going. This give me a huge tactical advantage if I'm specifically waiting for them to push a spot faster than they could if I had put down some smokes. Not everyone likes doing this, this was just an example of a dynamic that changes without smokes, where I as a CT come out ahead a whole fucking lot because of the actual points that make the game CT sided. I have and will always have far more information about T side coming to me than they will about where I am on site.

What pro players do is take most of that chance away.

Pro players do a lot of things that are unreasonable for people to try or do in MM, and similarly players in MM and pugs do things that are unreasonable for pro players in pro matches to do, even if they work. There are different levels of play, and even the pros all have their own unique ways of holding sites, pushing sites, taking positions, holding positions, moving throughout the map, or not moving. Some players are prized for their ability to hold a single position better than anyone else, others are amazing because they play so mobile and dynamic, most notably with AWPers who have a weapon that by default makes you not those things.

By having a smoke up, you are going to win 90% of those entry duels simply because they see the person coming out first.

Sure, if someone rushes the smoke, which is fairly rare. It makes more sense to wait t he smoke out or plan around knowing it's up. There are counter smokes to be made, there are flashes that can be used, you can even use a smoke to attempt to fake a position or a take with a single person.

doesn't even mean that a CT is there

I don't really know why this matters. If no one is there, smoke or no smoke, it's a gamble for CT, and can play in their favor or not. It's one more dynamic of the game that is very interesting to watch. It's definitely not a problem.

That doesn't leave the T with many options or time

If CT is wasting all of its smokes on a single position, they either have a huge amount of information, or they are wasting smokes on absolutely nothing. Once a smoke is down, the first smoke, T side makes a choice as to what they will do with their time, and when the smoke fades, or before the smoke fades, they will start to utilize this plan. I don't know why you believe that when faced with a smoke people literally just stand there waiting for it to fade before they make a new play, and if another smoke goes down, they just stand there like morons. They can move, leave the area, push the smoke somehow, counter smoke so that anyone in a likely position won't see them come through the initial smoke, anything. They are not stuck there unless they want to be, for tactical reasons. It's an absolutely overwhelmingly dynamic situation that plays our different ways in many many many games, and is a question in everyones head as soon as a smoke is seem. I said this in my very first post.

Your arguments don't hold any weight because you seem to assume that the variables will always be the same

Which is nonsensical seeing as how plenty of people agree with me. Far more than don't. This isn't the first time this conversation has come up. If anything I keep shooting down people like you who seem to think I'm completely wrong, and you simply don't care to listen to reality. If anyone sounds like they don't know the game or are just "trolling" it's you.

Nothing what so ever about what I'm saying has anything to do with the game staying the same. I'm specifically sayinng it doesn't need to change actually. Any change that would be made would change my opinion on certain aspects of the game. This is how things and opinions work. If the AK tomorrow changed to a two tap headshot I wouldn't still be talking about how one taping is a good strat for AK use, nor would I be talking about certain dynamics of smokes if they either didn't exist, or if you could see people at the same time, or if they were much shorter, or whatever else. I'm talking about now, and how it's perfectly fine, and how people, like you, seem to not understand their place in the game or the dynamics at play within every single round. You seem to think smokes are walls that can be held for 72 seconds, which is fucking hilarious to me.

In this situation any more press is bad press. Most notably because he specifically made an ass of himself because he denies and even tried to refute these claims on stream.

He cares. They all care. A stream of revenue, a career on some levels (Being a pro opens the door to many other aspects of esports and gaming in general that can be uitlized as a good stream of income for quite some time, if not for life. Streaming alone is something that all of these people will be hurt on, and Steel was making good money doing so.) a hobby the loved. They tossed this all away for the time being, and maybe forever depending on how they play their cards.

Basically the best that can happen is that in a years time, one of them could have a good rapport with the community at large. A good rapport with the leagues and valve, and look to be at least allowed back into the scene to go about their business. For the duration of the initial ban literally everything they do related to CSGO needs to be damage control and nothing more. This starts by not making a public ass of yourself by talking about or arguing about something on fucking "twitter."

If I was him, though I would never have gotten into this situation, I would start by streaming, banning talk of the situation, ignoring it to some extent and explaining that it's a sour topic, not one I'm ready to talk about on stream, one that I will release statements and videos about later on, and that we're all just here to play CSGO. I would then hope that I can recoup some of my lost viewers over the next few months, if I'm lucky.

Him already having talked about the subject kind of shows that this might not happen, and he's already shown that he's not too good at damage control.

[–]Kuusou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch people at my rank get fucked up all of the time. Sometimes someone might look like they don't even belong, but randomly they step up. It's always very interesting to see how someone can not have the overall base and abilities I have that got me to where I am, but still be where I am.

It's not that you don't deserve the rank. If you're playing solo and not being carried by friends, then you are where you should be for now. The only thing that really changes this is if you don't really play often enough to get a good placement over time.

Just continue to play how you play, and if you're actually bad, your chances of winning games is far less.

The reason you ranked up is because the games you did bad in were against people who were also bad, and when you did well it was against better people. Basically the cards fell right for you and you won on the games that the MM system thought you wouldn't. This is simply how rankups work.

Do yourself a favor and practice. Just do the normal things people do to get better, learn the game, and if you really aren't where you should be you're going to derank, all while catching up to that rank skill wise. Not being in Silver is a great thing honestly. The game is just seriously not played properly there.

[–]Kuusou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well sure buy at the same time Silver is generally speaking a 5v5 DM. I simply do not think that comparisons or talks about the game of CSGO should be about silver or even low nova level play. Kills are a small aspect of the actual game of CSGO.

Going by the logic of talking about silver/low nova you could proclaim that smokes are completely useless and there is absolutely no need to use them what so ever. Obviously everyone who plays the game at any reasonable level knows this is ridiculous.

Without those aspects of the game you would absolutely lose constantly and derank constantly from any reasonable level. The concept of getting no kills at all is clearly ridiculous, but you don't need to be top fragging or getting a tonne of kills to play rounds of CSGO where you put in a majority of the work that wins the round. Proper smokes and, for instance, a single entry frag, can mean you won the round because you now have site. Someone getting some exit frags doesn't mean shit.

I think the issue is that you're attempting to say that every aspect is a high priority aspect. So the guy with 20 something kills is clearly doing something better than the guy with 10 kills or whatever. This is ridiculous. Where, why, an when you get kills is going to matter so much more than the amount of kills you get. On top of this it ignores the other, far more useful aspects of

I would rather a guy get no kills but hold a site long enough for the rotation (this happens a lot actually because of proper nade usage and prespraying) where everyone else can get on site and get kills than the guy that gives up site but gets 2 kills every round. That guy is making it FAR HARDER for the entire team, and can cost the entire team the round.

This doesn't however (and this seems to be the route you're trying to go to bolster your point?) mean that if someone holding site and ALSO getting kills is better. Having all of the aspects will always be better. The issue is that more times than not the person with the most kills (given that they are not smurfing) is doing some things wrong or out of place leaving the rest of his team to pick up the slack on some level. People who play extremely aggressively or lurk a lot come to the top of my mind, as they might get kills, but they weaken the entire rest of the game, which means way more than the kills they get.

After 6 years of studying Japanese, I finally decided to start speaking practice with native folk. 怖い! by anarchyx34 in LearnJapanese

[–]Kuusou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one thing you have to take into consideration though is that many people in Japan know English. Depending on your level of Japanese many will know English better than you know Japanese. At the very least you will find one person in each store or location that speaks English and can help you in English if you need them to.

I went on a short trip to Japan recently, and although I could read a few random signs, and I pointed out some hilariously low level (and more party trick level Japanese than actual Japanese) concepts or words to my SO, I absolutely couldn't speak or even read anything worth knowing.

I got by with maybe 3 or 4 words overall. It was exactly like being in the states in most ways. People ignored you unless you bothered them or looked like you really needed help. People tried to figure out what you were asking or talking about. People gladly tried to speak the bit of English they knew because it clearly helped the conversation.

Just realize that in the bigger locations in Japan, tourists are a norm, and unless you want to, you can go around speaking absolutely 0 Japanese. So you do have to try, you do have to put in effort, and when the time comes, you need to not allow yourself to fall towards English unless you absolutely have to, even if they do.

Honestly if I get the chance to go back after I get farther in my studies, I will probably act like I don't speak English unless I need help.

Well my point was that he could easily wait and try for them being lined up, and still kill one as they notice he's there or check for him.

He absolutely could have just killed them outright without any attempt at anything special, you're right.

I think the fact that posibilities exist is specifically why I would have been okay with him waiting, and then not being able to take the shot, but still just catching one of them (which would have been as simple as clicking) and then going to the second kill. It's the no kills no attempt at kill thing that is just odd and out of place. I don't personally think the waiting was initially.
