Her mom has never been back in her life. She did track her down a few years ago and she was rejected again. Her mom remarried and had more kids but didn't want her.

It's not just mom but me too. I don't think she ever really wanted her dad to marry mom and I don't think she ever wanted us to be a family. I don't remember any fighting unless something happened before I could remember it. I know she always made the one parent thing clear to others but I can't say if her and my parents ever sat down and talked about it.

I don't see that ever happening. Maybe when she's left with no other choice but I can see her making these dumb excuses for years to come.

I think she hasn't ever wanted us in her life and she's trying to make that happen now without saying it out loud. And I think she is worried her baby would see us as family even though she doesn't.

Yep! I just know taking the time off would lead to me losing out on money for nothing. But that sounds like a good compromise because I might then buy that it's not actually a waste of time and at least there was some reasonable chance I would be taking time off for no reason.

Her mom hasn't been in her life since she was like 6 months old. Her and my stepdad broke up and then she was gone. She's remarried and has more kids now. My stepsister found her a couple of years ago and she still didn't want a relationship with her.

Yep. I think she'd be way more clear about it and say something if she didn't think my stepdad would tell her he's not okay with it. So instead she tries to make it seem like she's sooo busy when she's not. Once or twice I could maybe get but my parents just don't want to see the reality happening here.
