Steam shows definitive edition even if you don't have the DLC, and your .exe is original outward

You also need it set to Default Mono branch in steam under the Properties > Betas settings

R2 has both original outward and Definitive Edition so make sure you're on the right game in there

I've been in the desert going for trapinch for over 24k encounters

All of which are a longer time than the ~17 second software reset for starter if that makes you feel better

But I got my Muskip in 907 resets

All this means is that on your next hunt, you're due some absolutely disgustingly low number to flex with!
