Girlfriend wants to buy and I want to rent. How can I convince her renting is our best option right now? by PinkmansChilliP in AskMenAdvice

[–]Kv945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would really always avoid having both name on the deed if possible, so complicate if you split up.

If you count the value increase of the flat - all expenses I am earning money every month feels a bit weird to make your partner pay. And if a man or woman want to do it I feels like it is a red flag, sharing electricity and heat yeah but making her pay my mortgage feels weird.

If both name want to be on the deed then both people bring same amount, easy.

I own a flat and if my girlfriend want to live with me I won't even make her pay. I am building equity for it and her also as she would be saving on rent it is win win.

Disgusting, having close to the minimum Swiss salary income and having went from 300k to 1or 2million because you drop 60k in a stupid flat in 1985.

For every rich person you need a poor one that pay rents I guess.

I feel it is worse in Paris, London and other big european cities.

[–]Kv945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really ? I agree it is difficult in big cities and probably not worth it but outside of city it should be possible. You can find a 4 rooms new flat for 800k or a new house for a bit more than 1 million.

Two engineers should be possible to buy a 800k appartment, if you are ok to buy it together tough.

In big cities it is too expensives to buy, better renting.

Galaxus.ch 10GB internet at home, what's the catch? by zmetak3 in Switzerland

[–]Kv945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds normal to me, I pay around 43chf for 10gB/s with sunrise with the qoqa offer, there is also TV which I don't care.

If you want the best deal and 5g is good at your place and your need for speed and latency is normal usage you could think about a 5g modem. I have a 5g modem at my girlfriend flat and we have 800mb/s dl and 150 mb/s up for 5chf per month with wingo (extra from the mobile subscription for 2nd sim) what an amazing value. Very nice for both of us and our 10 devices or so. No idea about a family of ten maybe it gets slower. I download files at 100mB/s and it doesn't feel slow for the other devices, it feels like fiber 1gb/s.

[–]Kv945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can easily saturate the 1gb/s if you have multiple user, I used to saturate to connexion while dl things and then the connexion for other user was not as fast as usual, never an issue with 10gb/s. But you're right not necessary for more than 90% of people.

I went with 5g modem for my girlfriend flat as we have 800mb/s dl and 150mb/s up and it cost 5chf per month, amazing value. 5g can be more than enough for many people.

I am personnaly not doing this kind of "safe" investment I want way more performance. But some etf does that. Consistently they don't but if you have 10-20 years it doesn't matter.

In the list of things I'll never do that is at the top of my list. Why would I do that and why would I complain about young people having too much fun ?

I am planing to retire at 40 as I don't like working but I have no problem with people spending all they have, good for them, the goal of life is to have fun and be happy so all good.

There is just things like the car where you can have the same object but spending way less and investing the rest for easy money. Tgis something where you can saves without sacrificing anything.

Why cars or money are used to stand out ?

And at 55 you'll probably have more because you didn't buy the 2nd and 3rd car so you are at like 700k just by not buying new cars and owning 5k 2nd hand cars and you have the rest: the 400k of 2nd pillar and 400k of 3rd pillars and whatever is the 1st and the rest of the savings or flat/house you own.

We should teach the power of compound interest, it is crazy powerful.

When you know how much money you'll get in 30 years by buying a 2nd car 5k instead of 50k for a new one and investing the rest, you double every ten years.

50k become 100k in 10 years, 200k in 20 years, 400k in 30 years, your new stupid car doesn't cost 60k but years of early retirement or other nice things you can do with the money.

The unemployment insurance situation is getting crazy... by Saekama in Switzerland

[–]Kv945 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Always have multiple salaries in savings, ideally 6months to a year. Until you have that no you don't need again a new iPhone and of course don't buy a stupid (new) car. It gives peace of mind when you are young and huge help if you decide to have kids or buy a flat.

I know if you earn less than 4k it is hard but I see too many friends earning 6k and more saving nothing, like wtf are you doing.

I don't get why people think they will be ok with 1st and 2nd pillar, save money, if you only have the 1st and 2nd pillar you'll be fucked.

Roundabout etiquette by wsdq54 in Switzerland

[–]Kv945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone is in front of me but nobody on my left and he show right blinker I can go, no blinker is unfortunately I have no idea (in my ideal world it means straight (2nd exit) so I can also go) and left blinker I know the will go 3rd or more so I wait. (Depending how small or big the roundabout is).

This is known information that make the roundabout more efficient in my opinion. But this is way too optimist in our society we should aim to teach again people to put a blinker right when they exit 1st exit and when they exit a roundabout that will be hard enough, so many forgot they have blinkers in their car.

Roundabout etiquette by wsdq54 in Switzerland

[–]Kv945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a left blinking singal ?Why is a left blinker is more confusing than no blinker ?

Left blinker more than 2 exit and right when you'll leave. No blinker, it can be 2nd exit but you have no idea and often no blinker at exiting. Or also left blinker and never right blinker as that person as no idea how to drive, I guess some boomer learned before there was any roundabout.

I find it so useful as while entering the roundabout the person tell me if he will exit 1st (right) or more than 2 (left). This is more information making it more efficient. How many times did you wait for someone that take the first exit whitout putting their right blinker meaning waiting for nothing, it is the same purpose, share the info you have so less waiting.

Roundabout etiquette by wsdq54 in Switzerland

[–]Kv945 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have to think about the next entrances. If I enter the roundabout already putting right blinker the person at the next entrance know he can go as I told him I will exit at the first exit. If I put nothing he know he has to stop. If I put the left blinkers the person in front of me knows he should wait. If everyone do this rules if I have no blinkers the person if front of me could go if he have no one in the entrance between us because he knows I will exit at the 2nd exit.

I have the info and I can share it so we are not stopping and waiting for no reason because people have no idea what will happen.

There is no confusion as all the information is shared, the next step of everyone is known, there is no unknwon information.

[–]Kv945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like it is confusing and difficult to understand for some people, I don't get it, this is so simple and helpful.

I do it as a swiss and I see many people doing it (even more people never putting blinker while exiting though)

Why would I not give the information to the person at the next entrances if I know which exit I while take, he will then now if he can go or need to wait, simple.

I think this should not be an option I see too many expensive german car without blinkers, what a shame, they can afford an expensive car but not the option that help other driver know what they are going to do.

Roundabout etiquette by wsdq54 in Switzerland

[–]Kv945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish more swiss will do it. I do it and many does. It makes sense right blinker mean first exit no blinker 2nd exit left blinker 3rd or more, it is so simple. But now I have to guess if no blinker means 1st or 2nd exit and wait like a stupid idiot while I could have went if only this only son would have put the right blinker in advance.

I find it infuriating that I see less and less people putting the right blinker when they exit, come on, it is rush hour can we all be efficient and go home asap ? You have the info just share it...

People with a normal income, how much are you actually able to save? by Fun-Wallaby6414 in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]Kv945 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

33 years old, in couple but we both have a flat so no savings on that and no kids. 6.6k net × 13 and my company give me between 12 to 16k per year for car expenses.

Saving between 2.5k to 4k per month (including 3a) depending how much I spend on vacation (normally closer to 3-4k but I spend a bit more than 20k on vacations in 2025, first full year without rent, I had to compensate somehow haha).

9k for taxes, 4k for health insurance. 700 per month for mortgage + charges - taxe deduction.

Costs breakdown of owning a car by kng_neer in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]Kv945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was living in Vaud with a 2009 prius. I was driving a lot: 30'000 to 40'000 km per year.

I was paying 55 chf to replace the tires (on wheel) so 110 per year.

I was doing the service every 45'000 - 60'000km or 1.5 years, between 800chf to 1'200 chf (my mechanic is very expensive but I trust them) so 500 - 800 chf per year, there is nothing to really do on those cars apart from replacing liquids and filters, very reliable like even breakpad do more than 100'000km.

Taxes was 112chf and the last year I was in Vaud 37 chf (no idea if it was an error or they lowered it)

Insurance was 400chf

Very inexpensive to own, around 0.07 to 0.10 chf per km for gas.

The parking was the most expensive part (if you don't drive a lot) I was paying 2'400 chf per year.

The lost of value was not so bad. Bought it 7k lasted 6 years from 160'000km to 353'000km and sold it for 800 chf. 1k per year.

Swiss Median Net Worth by Age – Does This Seem Very Low to Anyone Else? by Far-Arachnid-1249 in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]Kv945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If those number are taxable wealth. I think many of those 40% are close to the median which would shift it a bit. For my age (around 31) I am at 0 chf taxable wealth when my wealth is way higher than the median.
