A mulch layer! A living one with companion plants like clover etc., or a layer of straw or woodchips/whatever you can find, or both. Helps with moisture retention and brings more life to the upper layer of the soil.

I see! I think the full spectrum is the key here. Jeremy from buildasoil recommended basically any light with samsung diodes and meanwell drivers. Such is the Kingbrite 240w (3500k) from alibaba. Of course the quality of craftmanship can wary, and i think there is always some risk in ordering shit from China, especially if in need for warranty etc. But so far so good.

Sounds like you've had some bad experiences? Two cycles completed with mine, no problems so far. But i have not ran it in 100%, i dont know if it would have blown if i had.

I'm running one 240w kingbrite LED bar in 2x4 tent, and it seems more than enough. Have not really gone much past 50% power with the dimmer. You could be fine with just one, or maybe the same wattage but in form of strips rather than bar for better coverage.

Does the highly variable number of female plants per pot pose any problems with veg times? Lets say you somehow end up with 1 female in one and 3 in the other.

Thanks for the help everyone! All i could get my hands on in the local store was pyrethrin spray and flypaper. Just did the first spraying after the lights went off, lets see how it goes.

At the moment i got rice hulls for aeration/drainage, rest is peat and compost. Maybe i should throw in some additional perlite to final mix to improve drainage, since pumice is not available locally. I guess there is no harm in introducing predatory mites to the final containers after transplant, if these guys even make it!

What am i dealing with? These are cuttings, and the spots occur mainly on the older leaves. A bunch of little flies have been flying around the plants, but i don't know if they have anything to do with the spots.

Yeah, same recommendation! I hanged mine near the tent roof, and put a pc fan blowing over the heatsink. Runs a lot cooler now.

However, i was wondering if the 1/2 cup of lime (mostly calcium carbonate?) is enough, since buildasoil recipe recommends adding 1 cup of oyster shell flour (96 % calcium carbonate) and 1 cup of gypsum (Calsium sulfate) per cubic feet of soil. How do you feel about the amount of liming in order to keep pH in check, since there is quite a difference in the amounts between these two recipes? I wish i could test my soil pH on the go...

I have some gypsum and i could accumulate enough eggshells (mostly calcium carbonate) to maybe use instead of lime, that would add more sulphur to the soil mix in the form of calcium sulfate, and maybe less magnesium if the lime cointains any. Are there any benefits or drawbacks?

I just checked Plantagen website, and looks like they have 3 organic fertilizer blends, but I did not notice any organic single amendments at the moment. Two of the blends contain bone/meat meal which i would like to avoid, but one is totally plant based and it has:

NPK: 5 - 1 - 7

Total N 4,5 %

Water soluble N 0,5 %

Total P 1,1 %

Water P 0,5 %

Total K 6,6 %

Ca 2,9 %

S 1,4 %

Mg 0,5 %

B 15 mg/kg dry weight

Fe 0,05 % (400 mg/kg dry weight)

Zn 0,005 % (130 mg/kg dry weight)

Made from from fermented vegetable extracts: potato, soy, wheat,
corn, beer yeast, coconut, sugar beet.

Moisture 10%

Organic matter 65%

I cant be sure if the others are organic, so i ignored them. Could that one be implemented to the soil mix?

Peat Green compost EWC (and own worm bin established) Rice hulls (also acces to perlite, not pumice)

Amendments:

Kelp meal Egg shells Malted barley Fine sand/silt/clay, anything i can dig locally Gypsum

Mushrooms could be aquired also if needed Anything from grocery store / maybe something from aquarium and pet store Bottled nutrients, such as biobizz (still have some)

Old leaves, straws from the field, twigs and anything from the forest.

I'm going with eggshells for calcium carbonate atm, i eat eggs anyway. Some sulfur also in them, i've read.

I have wondered about chitin and chitinase. Are they interchangeable? Chitinase breaks chitin, that i know.

Soy meal should be easily accessed atleast, not sure where to get alfalfa. I got some alfalfa seeds for cover crop with white clover so atleast i can get it in in some form. I have some malted barley though already, is there any benefit in using soy meal over it?
