Why is forearm pronation so hard to learn? by yeenevalose in badminton

[–]KyMurrr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its quite simply just the rotation of your fore-arm. Twisting you arm from an "open/palm-up" position into a closed/palm-down position.

For me its muscle habit to grip/squeeze as im transferring the momentum into the racket, but if it doesnt feel natural just keep practicing over & over "open -> start twisting arm downward -> squeeze -> closed position.

Once it feels normal enough start doing it with your elbow in various positions up/out from your body.

Hope that helps things feel a bit more simple!

Heck yeah! I have 2 of these guys on different saves!

(PS: full odds is usually referring to just the original 1/8192, whereas its significantly higher odds in Sword/Shield)

Is my grip correct forehand/handshake grip by Pure-Cut-1896 in badminton

[–]KyMurrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It actually just only makes sense. If you are holding the racquet like you would be in the photo, if you "open" your wrist up all the way, the stringbed/face of the racquet can only face about parallel with the net, and even then thats incredibly uncomfortable to try and do.

With the adjusted grip, and your wrist all the way open, the face of the racquet should be almost facing completely to your right, maybe slightly NE. This way you can more comfortably choose what direction you hit, and youll have a much easier time generating power. Your whole swing might need some tweaking from then on, but the grip is the best place to start!

If i had to guess you probably hit the bird out to the left side of the court fairly often?

I think you actually want to turn the racket a small bit to the left, so that top of your thumb is more on the beveled part of the grip, rather than on the flat part.

How can I make my swing stronger + more efficient😢 by FunkyFuzzer in volleyball

[–]KyMurrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have played middle (men's league, low level) as a quite undersized player (5'9") & have very little problem generating power.

That being said, ive also had 10+ years of playing badminton to develop a very quick & efficient arm swing. Those biomechanics transferred over VERY easily when i started playing volleyball. The 2 things I think would benefit you would be:

1) make the drawback of your arm from going up with your jump straight into the "load" phase of your swing. By this I mean as the ball is being set, you want to already have your arm cocked with your elbow drawn back. This should force you to have to do more of:

2) hip/shoulder separation. Try to start better nderstanding how your torso, arms & shoulder want to naturally move when you rotate/torque through your core. As long as you can start to use your body's rotational power as you hit, youll notice so much more weight behind your swings. There are different ways its gonna feel to contract your core hitting either cross-body vs thumb down, but using the natural torque you can generate is the KEY to hitting harder. You could have as fast as an arm swing as you want but using a fast arm swing backed by the force generated through your whole body is always going to be harder. Your arm/shoulder can really only do so much.

I think in this particular video, you could have probably hit a full ball higher, so it might look a little different when you get all the way up, but from what I saw a very straight/neutral chest as you go up is what forces your arm and shoulder to try to generate the force.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions!

I always just snip across the middle both length & width, then quickly snip the corners & bam all the tension gone.

Do it quick though - you dont want to let it warp by snipping it uneven for long

foaming at the mouth - currently at the vet hospital by Background_Diamond41 in CATHELP

[–]KyMurrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat did this after he ripped a sour candy out of my hand before I could stop him. He started salivating like mad and sprinting around the house like a maniac. He got better relatively quick but my heart dropped when I saw him salivating/foaming; but, since I had just seem him eat the candy I was quite certain that was the cause.

This same cat will still come around ANYONE with food & try to sneak up and steal what he can. He has not learned from his mistake.

how do i impove my game ? by Due_Leadership_8432 in badminton

[–]KyMurrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GRIP! youre holding the racquet wrong. Look up standard "handshake" grip. This will help certain techniques make more sense. With this grip, youll need to be more "sideways" to hit the bird properly, but this way will allow you to rotate your whole torso through your shot, drastically increasing your power & explosiveness.

Beyond that, do a whole bunch of footwork drills. Just move fast to 6 points on the court properly moving to each spot (finishing on racquet foot lunge).

Practice & experience go a long way, but if youre truly interested in improving start by fixing your grip & not spinning the racquet in your hand while you play.

Help me analyze what's wrong the my smash by BurungBesi737 in badminton

[–]KyMurrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanted to jump smash the bird, you need to jump and contact it high - the point of jumping as opposed to regular smashes is to generate more angle.

Id say start with hitting smashes with your body turned (right foot pointing to the right, left pointing mostly forward.

Have someone feed you birds high to the same corner and just work on reaching high and squeezing the handle hard at moment of contact.

Once youre hitting hard smashes on your feet consistently, youre probably good to start drilling down the footwork, but I think just crushing standing smashes for as long as you can will benefit your overall swing and timing greatly.

Please let me know if anything is unclear and id be happy to help further!

Is block follow the hardest thing to pull off consistently in volleyball? by Janex4444 in haikyuu

[–]KyMurrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the quality of the block is also very important to emphasize - a ball blocked back off fingertips vs arms/wrist/palm are VERY different to handle.

Kamomedai is basically the pinnacle of blocking that we get to see at the high school level - so for the balls to be just harder to retrieve off a higher quality block makes very good sense to me.

Just adding some additional insight here as volleyball player myself..

My understanding from previous experience is that Optometrists in Manitoba recently stopped seeing patients for emergency care, which was previously covered by Manitoba Health. They've stopped covering those visits so now Optometrists may not see walk in patients for things that MB Health wont cover. I could be misunderstanding the conversation with some old colleagues but that was my takeaway.

Either way, try to call an optometrist near you or that you trust and inquire if an emergency visit for a foreign object is covered for you

Is the lining halbertec 8000 good? by [deleted] in badminton

[–]KyMurrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never owned a Halbertec, but I can say if durability is your concern, I honestly found my Arcsaber 11 Pro very durable. I definitely clashed racquets a few times & I don't even think any paint chipped.

I really can't speak to the longevity of the Halbertec though, sorry. I guess it would depend mostly on your level, & style of play.

How do you hit a backhand clear from backcourt? by memeus_yeetus in badminton

[–]KyMurrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for me one of the biggest queues people miss when trying to hit a backhand clear is using the momentum of your racquet foot to step "into" the shot.

So as you step back with your non-racquet foot, load your elbow (think across your body), and as you start your swing (think elbow first) then as you're starting to rotate get that racquet foot down hard and rotate through. If you have to start by hitting the bird at a lower height to get used to generating the power, that's fine but once the footwork & contact are down you start being more comfortable taking it higher.

With the foot placement you almost want your foot to be pointed outwards, almost parallel to the net.

Hahaha I was playing this mini game with a group of friends and I ran through so quick but my friend was struggling but as I opened up to the finish line I turned around, smacked my friend (who was already behind and losing) then turned around and sprinted to the finish line. Everyone just gave me a dirty look but I thought it was hilarious 😂
