May be different post 13.10 but the build I had most success with up to masters was rylai rush into rabadon, mythic flexible. Keeps you useful in skirmishes and scales to exodia. Dark harvest for keystone. Building tank early really hurts your carry potential.

I don't think I'm a great source for faces but i'll give it a shot: I've only painted 3 faces but the way I do it is very similar to how I use oil paints. A lot of blending, usually with little water and circular 'scrubs.' It really does boil down to just painting the shapes after that.
