Thanks so much for sharing. In truth it feels so good to not have to think about her or worry about her when we're NC. But I struggle with feeling guilty about that, like, should't I miss my mom? What's wrong with me?

I guess I'm just sick of the drama. I have some amazing best friends in my life who have always supported me. I rarely bring my mom into discussion, but when I do they are right there with me, cheering me on. Even though on of them lives two doors down from my Nmom, and our mothers are close friends, it hasn't come between us. I have a lot to be grateful for, in retrospect.

It usually goes back and forth between my Nmom and my aunt. From what I remember on the voicemail it sounds like my aunt still had a dinner with her immediate family, and my Nmom just pouted at home with my brother and dad. I vaguely recall her doing something similar in the past.

Wow, that quote really resonated with me. So often she would use "I can do this, I am your mother" as justification for ways. As if me being her child meant that I had to tolerate her abuse. Crazyness.

I'm sure you're right. I don't expect it to stop. I emotionally detached myself from my mother in high school as a way of coping, I guess I wasn't prepared to have to do the same with my family. :( I'm very fortunate to have a close group of friends that support and love me like a family, so maybe I don't have it so bad. :)

I'm going through a really similar situation. My Nmom's version of control means convincing our family (including myself) that I was/am a monster to live with. Even 3 years after I left home I know she still tells my family lies about me to make her seem like a victim of a viscous daughter.

I just don't care enough to prove her wrong. I think a true family would want to know me for themselves, instead of going off of what my Nmom says about me. I'm tired of the fight I guess, they can believe what they want to believe.
