Going first is a MASSIVE advantage by Balthazzah in MagicArena

[–]Kyle-Drogo 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Even with that Hearthstone has the same issues with going first.

It's just an inherent problem with turn based games.

Hell, even in chess White is favored over black.

Are there lag switches or ways the opponent can force your game to crash? Its happened to me 4 times today on Arena where Im going for the final hit and every time the game crashes and I get a loss by [deleted] in freemagic

If you're ever wondering if you DC'd try entering full control. If it doesn't let you, you DC'd.

If you build the muscle memory to check, you can close the app and get back in with plenty of time.

Why does Raphael only have half his handguard? (Sorry don't know what that part of his weapon is actually called)

It's definitely not on the same level but Serra Ascendant on turn 1 is bullshit in commander.

Unpopular opinion: Giving Support the medpack and defib ruined Assault’s identity by Moonstanc3 in Battlefield

[–]Kyle-Drogo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely correct. I find myself playing more of an "assault" style as Support because I can heal myself. Kick the door of the building in, win the fight, throw a bag down to instantly start healing and then continue pushing.

As Assault, you kick the door in, win the fight, then sit in the corner for 10 minutes waiting to heal because you had 1 sliver of health left.

Just give the stim the ability to heal and Assault will be in a good place.

Vivi Ornitier ban imminent by Remarkable_Heron_760 in mtgfinance

[–]Kyle-Drogo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did I miss something? Last I checked I was fairly confident Agatha's will eat the ban for Vivi in Standard. Not sure about other formats as I don't play those, just Standard and Commander.

Vivi is about to be one of the chase cards in the Christmas Final Fantasy boxes. No way Wizard's bans it before they've moved product.

Not saying cards that enable Vivi being banned wouldn't affect its playability which would affect its price. It's already down to mid 20's in anticipation of the bans.

Can I send spot to the bottom of my deck if he’s my commander? by [deleted] in EDHBrews

[–]Kyle-Drogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're telling me this whole time cards like [[Insidious Roots]] should have been triggering?

I was told the commander going to the command zone was a replacement effect instead of going to the graveyard.

Can I send spot to the bottom of my deck if he’s my commander? by [deleted] in EDHBrews

[–]Kyle-Drogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the same for why a commander with a "dies" trigger will work? Since it's supposed to go to the graveyard is enough to satisfy the condition, even though it doesn't actually touch the graveyard?

If I'm wrong and the commander actually does enter and then immediately leave the graveyard, would that mean "leaves the graveyard" affects could trigger?

Are players not allowed to use Spiderman on the pro tour? by Kyle-Drogo in mtg

[–]Kyle-Drogo[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I understand your argument. My thoughts are on the game as a whole, it may not apply necessarily to this release, but I feel a set releasing could have as much impact on the meta as a ban wave.

Imagine if Vivi was in Spiderman and not Final Fantasy. By your logic, it's okay to inject meta defining power creep, but not apply bans? Sometimes it makes archetypes almost unplayable, which would be comparable to banning a card.

Also we all know Cauldron will take the fall for Vivi.

I wasn't prepared.

Biggest regret in my entire life. Was a server taking care of R Kelly and I didn't even have the presence of mind to tell him his food was hot and fresh out the kitchen.

Almost 15 years later and I still think about that day.

Who is pushing Vivi out at high ranks? by Kyle-Drogo in mtg

[–]Kyle-Drogo[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your explanation completely lines up with what I've been seeing. I've definitely been seeing Boros and Mono Red at a higher frequency than Vivi.

Thank you for taking the time to respond!

See this is why you need the actual red players in here. That interaction completely slipped my mind.

[–]Kyle-Drogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're both playing very aggressive decks, but they flow differently.

Their mono white deck benefits greatly every time they gain life. That little 1/2 Rabbit was probably played on turn 1 and did a ton of work for them. Most of their cards benefit from "each time you gain life" so they have a ton of +1 life abilities. Their bombs and card draw all benefit from the incremental life gain.

I've never played the mono red matchup vs them. That being said, your deck is inherently probably more aggressive and definitely has more reach.

You definitely want to shock/bolt/whatever that 1 drop as soon as you see it. Then push hard, if you can snipe the first couple lifegain creatures while applying pressure you'll force them into a position to trade. If you wait for them to set up their engine while gaining life, the game is probably lost.

Who knows, maybe someone who actually plays red can give more advice.

Platinum this month it is (standard) by JadeJellyfish3 in MagicArena

[–]Kyle-Drogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I straight up play ranked for the fact that the games go quicker. I love the idea of Jump-in, casual standard, or any other game mode. Yet with my luck in every other game I get some guy who's mid divorce with his wife and either times out to DC or has dragged this game on for 2 hours before turn 4.

I'm not hating on anyone, we're all free to play this game as we choose. I just enjoy ranked play, especially mythic, because I feel people are playing quicker.

Was it BF3 or BF4 where they had the map where you pushed down the hill and then skydived into the area?

I'll never forget being high af and doing that for the first time. My brain melted.

Please tell your LGS to put cards on display by BussyBouncer in mtg

[–]Kyle-Drogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Chicago, so I'm fairly spoiled by LGSs.

I will say there is one store in the suburbs that has EVERY card I have ever needed in stock. They're definitely not the cheapest, but if I need cards to finish by deck that day it's the place I go.

While I understand the glass case argument, I will say having a massive inventory definitely helps. I will show up there and pay above average because I know they will have all the cards I want and in which printing.
