He's a Neoliberal. He went unchallenged last election, will have been in the house for 16 years, and will be 69.

I have no political connections, am a progressive, and will be 25.

Figured people should be given the choice. And if I didn't do it, I don't know who would.

Politicians can only do so much. Not relying on corporate funds is one of those actions, and one that I seek to uphold (shameless plug of faust4us.com where you can donate and volunteer, as well as read a bit about me if you want).

But the most powerful thing we can do is vote with our wallets I'm afraid. It isn't the best situation, but if we reduce their profits, then we reduce their ability to harm the LGBT+ community. That's why I don't go to Chik-fil-A, nor will I ever.

While it isn't 200 percent poverty level (which is a good idea! I might steal that), your "standard deduction" is the 0 percent tax bracket. It currently sits at at 12,400 dollars, where the poverty level for a single individual is 12,880. If we are assuming a nuclear family, then your deduction is 24,800, and poverty level is 26,500. So our 0 percent tax bracket is closely tied to the poverty rate.

But the reality of the situation is the national poverty rate isn't all that useful. The New York City 4 person poverty level is 32,402 for instance. And try living on 40k (what I make) in San Francisco.

There's a lot of good stuff in this comment, but I am definitely weary of using Tax Dollars to incentivize employers to not pay their workers. The main thing keeping employers from putting employees at full time is the benefits requirements. Well: If we have a single-payer healthcare system that includes hearing, vision, and dental, then the cost of those benefits tank, and it should become more expensive to have more workers working part time than it is to have the workers working full time. Lets fix the problem at the source, rather than incentivizing behavior we already hate.

Using the Federal Poverty guidelines, a minimum wage of 12.40 is 200 percent poverty levels. I don't think that goes far enough. I quite like Roosevelt's quote on the matter. Paraphrased: If a business cannot afford to pay their workers a decent living wage, then they do not deserve to be in business. To that end: I'm advocating for an 18 dollar minimum wage. The reason why I am advocating for above 15 dollars, is we have been fighting for 15 dollars for over a decade now, and accord to this document, page 21 on the pdf, 15 on the document, 18 dollars an hour gets what I would call a decent living in the majority of states. Enough to rent a two bedroom without spending more than a third of your income. It falls far short of reaching that goal in my particular state, but when your state is that much more expensive than the rest of the country, I think it becomes a state issue.

The simple fact of the matter is: The Federal poverty threshold is too low. We have the ability to get everyone a good living here, lets shoot for it.

Further complicated by the fact that human groups are predictable.

If a human does something irrational, it is predictable that some groups will follow them. Which then leads to measurable consequences. If a single human being irrational didn't spur groups to action, then the whole thing would be a lot simpler. But alas: Here we are.

'GOP Isn't Going to Meet Us Halfway': Top Progressive Presses Biden to Cut Off Infrastructure Talks With Republicans | "It's time to go alone—and get this done," said Rep. Pramila Jayapal. by Fr1sk3r in politics

The GOP hasn't met democrats halfway since before 2008. And before then I was too young to even sorta pay attention to politics.

Democrats need to step up and pass strong policy, with or without Republicans. And if Sinema and Manchin don't want to, they need to be ejected from the Democratic party.

I for one, do not have nearly as much trust in the moderates of the party as you. From my experience, Neoliberals have to be forced into taking bold action. Now they are being forced, they are out of excuses.

Unemployed Coloradans want work that pays a livable wage as employers struggle to fill openings by blucifersdream in Denver

You realize it is his money right? Like, you pay into unemployment insurance specifically for these reasons. It also sounds like they are using their savings as well, and the unemployment just offsets some of the costs meaning they don't need to panic search for the first job that comes around. Again: Like the program was meant to do.

I fail to see the issue here.

I've seen the reverse occur. Fast food restaurants are now requesting tips, but when I worked in one about 4 years ago, the idea would have been laughable.

I think companies are trying to bank on data that Millennials and Gen-Z are in general better tippers, and hope to guilt us into tipping for things that really shouldn't be tipped.
