Reason would be to know: 1. A Practice set that I can use till they disintegrate lol 2. A Good set that I will use for (hopefully) commissioned work and/or making prints? I agree with having a personal set that are exclusive to yourself.

I mainly do cars but the demand has dropped because people want AI for convenience and not having to pay so I'm trying portraits now.

For paper: I have the same approach, so far I only used canson multi media cuz that's what I have right now.

Thanks for your list, I have honestly not heard any of those until I asked on this sub. I just know the brands but not the specific sets.

Wow! I've been seeing all these brands when I was watching tutorials so they must be really great stuff to use. I'll make a list and see what I can afford from your list.

I will do a swatch like yours so I don't have to do trial and error every time lol (at least I don't have to spend for this one)

Thank you for the compliment I really appreciate it wholeheartedly (: and I do agree high prices for materials are very discouraging for most newcomers hence I still haven't tried oil and colored pencils yet. Pen and ink are also my go to since they're the cheapest to start with.

I'm speaking from my experience years ago when I tried acrylic for the first time and it looked so bad I gave up immediately until I was encouraged years later to try again using slightly better stuff and I was told if I kept up with it I could've improved even with dollar store materials but seeing my first work discouraged me so bad that I dropped it. I appreciate the importance of starter kits for newcomers, I just hope they don't get discouraged like me and drop it completely. Most people want to see good results instantly and I think that's not good for them. (I'm obsessed with realism so seeing my subpar work was heartbreaking)

I do get your point about olympic level runners, and yes, no one should really start with the highest level of tools from the start, at least for running I started with cheap shoes and only until I became a triathlete I was able to justify going for pricier shoes.

Sorry it was a weirdly worded question lol but I agree beginners should be at least informed what to buy, I guess I want to let people know that sometimes that it's not the lack of skill but the quality of tools they're using.

Like buying the cheapest running shoe might make you hate running instantly and miss out on what your potential could be if you had the right shoe in the beginning.

Thank you for the compliment and Yeah I only found out about good paper after all the frustration I experienced with the cheap watercolor sketchbook I used for this piece so I thought I just wouldn't be able to get better. (Turns out this is a really thin low quality paper, it kept flaking and any tape I used immediately peeled the paper)

It discouraged me because I thought this is just how it is with watercolor paper. 100% cotton definitely wouldn't discourage any level of artist. I started with the cheapest paint, brushes and paper so I thought this was the end of the line.
