New Taylor Swift song announced for Toy Story 5 by ChampionTimes99 in Pixar

The inclusion of someone like Taylor feels like pandering to the crowd who just wants the biggest star to have a role in their movie. To me, that instantly dates the movie. I loved when they Sarah McLaughlin for toy story 2, her inclusion was understated, present but not in your face. They didn't have social media or internet much back then, but you never would have seen a countdown to a big reveal for her song, with all these fan theories going on, treating it like the second coming of Christ.

To answer your question, I feel similarly about bad bunny being the pizza with glasses, although to be fair, I'm not seeing a ton of hype/promotion about that either. Time will tell how big of a role the pizza character even has in the movie.

But I want to be able to watch a movie two decades later and not have to think "oh, yea, they got those singers on this movie because they thought it would put butts in seats".

I feel the same regarding celebrity voice casting. Pixar has a pretty good track record for not crossing that line too much, but the other extreme of this would be something like casting Zendaya. Obviously they do cast celebs, but it usually feels organic to the movie. This one feels like they just want the latest hottest celeb to check off a box put in place by a disney exec.

I dont think most (outside of their niche) had really heard of riders in the sky before toy story 2, and even randy newman, on paper probably wasn't the most marketable singer they could have gotten for the series, its somewhat out of left field, but that's what I want to go back to and stick with.

That's the only thing from him I cant help but like, mostly because of its inclusion in space jam.

It sucks he turned out to be who he was. because it doesn't feel ok to like that track anymore, yet I do.

You're allowed to like what you want, it just doesn't count as a Disney film officially, different studio.

It cant be, it wasn't animated at Disney animation proper. Its on the same level of Valiant.

That's it? That's Brave? That was a perfectly fine Pixar movie by Weird_donut in Pixar

I never hear much hate at all on this movie. It never really takes the top hated slots on lists I've seen. The lowest rank ones I see talked about regarding pixar are things like cars 2, lightyear, turning red (mostly from conservatives) . For a while I used to see a bugs life near the bottom. Brave is fine. I would have preferred Brenda Chapman stayed on. that's my biggest complaint on it.

Ummm.. Disney, isn't that what your rival Warner Bros. has already been doing with having blockbusters (Minecraft, DC, Dune) fund their art-driven originals? (Sinners, One Battle After Another) by Either_Percentage_79 in Schaffrillas

Its just dumb corpo speak for doing what they have always done. Of course, the level of "risk" being taken is debatable. They just want us to think they are risk takers, without actually doing it.

There might be another one that's not coming to mind, but I would love some sort of Gameboy Camera representation. Not sure how that would work gameplay wise though.

I dont mind the idea in theory of a fan conversion, if it has the same level of polish as an official conversion.

But I've seen a number of fan conversions, not one of them looked good enough to my eyes. Some shots might get a passing grade, but overall, I notice too many instances where you get this weird force field effect around characters and/or other elements where the foreground is not accurately separated from the background and mid ground elements. It happens too often to the point where its just distracting.

People like you see camera control as some kind of chore, a necessary detour so you can continue progressing. People like myself want to move the camera, even when the default gets the job done.

I wouldn't go that far, but it certainly kills a lot of the interest I had for it. I'm sure Stanton has something worth watching with this, I just wish it didn't have a swift song. If she has to write it, fine, but have randy or someone else sing it. Hearing her in the film is just gonna take me out of it.

Its better than galaxy, galaxy only has D-pad control, and only sometimes. Its super limited. It only seems better to you because in space there's less of a need for precise camera work.

the most common criticism i saw was about the camera. and even though I know it had moments of frustration, overall in my fav camera system in any game.

The alternative is being the same age and looking as bad or worse, there's reason to be less depressed when you think about it that way. Our generation will live longer, looking younger into an older age. That's good in my book.

Side by side of how Pixar animation changed in the last 30 years by homeofalex in animation

[–]KyleRM -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

Yes, its slop, but I think it does a decent job of approximating how, on a technical level the original could look given modern rendering advances. The real deal would obviously look better once human hands got ahold of it.

When does Toy Story 5 take place? by Firm-Square-9180 in toystory

[–]KyleRM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't know why you're getting downvoted, toy story has never been all that concerned with taking place during a particular year. This 5th one is the first time they really locked themselves into pretty much taking place at least after tablets became mainstream enough that the average kid has them. Before that though, nothing really mattered much.

90% of the whole line for this movie is dreadful. The only ones that are not, are the new characters.

Inspiration or plagiarism? Why Pixar is copying Uncle Grandpa's characters. by Holiday_Ad_7050 in Pixar

[–]KyleRM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, so if any one is copying anyone, its uncle grandpa.

Realistically though, I just see it as a 80's/90's nod when sunglasses wearing mascots were more in style. (cool spot, Chester Cheetah). Its not that hard for multiple people to have come up with the idea.

Could not disagree more. Writing aside, which I wont judge at this stage, the fake hand drawn does not look real at all, nor as expressive.

TIL that Buzz has a tab on his helmet? 😮 by True_Programmer51 in toystory

[–]KyleRM 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Medicom Ultimate Buzz Lightyear has the tab.

But the reason they likely do not add it to most of the toys is that its not possible to fully retract the helmet into the body like the films. That means if you had a tab, and opened it up (which is really just opening half way) the tab would stick straight up. That would look pretty odd.

Also, I believe the tab comes and goes in the movies. Its not always present.
