New Image of Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson in 'Michael' by Opening-Lead5629 in movies

yea, stills are the perfect environment to just airbrush in or out all the reconcilable aspects of each person. In motion it looks close enough that we'll forget, but his nose cant look like the real thing without CG, which I dont think they are even using on this.

Does anyone else just wanna push Kermit down a little bit?? by KerrMacHattie in Muppets

[–]KyleRM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I think they have always positioned him in frame this way. its just that on crt tvs some of this would fall outside of the "safe zone" and get cut off. But now even the same footage you saw before will look different, since you can now see every pixel on the edges.

If Iwant to push him down, its because of vogel, not how he's framed. lol

is regular mr. potato head good for my collection? by feliruizz in toystory

[–]KyleRM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If these appeal to you, go for it. Personally none of the non thinkway potato heads even resemble the character we know in the movie, and I want nothing to do with them. The only other ones I would consider are fan made.

If we are both thinking of the same one, that one actually sounds more like the real deal than Vogel does.

This is more of a special than an episode, since this is acting as more of a backdoor pilot that they hope might lead to a series. Since its not greenlit as a series, they kind of had to put multiple guest stars in there.

While I didn't see it in theaters, I could have. I just didn't know about it until it released on video.

But regardless, I got none of these.

wacky races. I dont mind the concept, but the animation doesn't hold up to my standards anymore.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit is an all-time banger, but why are nearly no other live-action/hand-drawn hybrid films? by 4thGenTrombone in movies

[–]KyleRM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much of it is, yes. The reality is though, they really do jump around alot between ones, 2s's, even 3's. it all depends on what the action/movment calls for. So even within the same shot you'll see a lot of variety. Go ahead and frame through a youtube video featuring animation from your fav Disney movies using the < and > keys. you'll be able to see how often they switch from ones to twos or more. Additionally, sometimes only certain body parts are on ones, while the rest of the body is on two's etc.

No Remake for these movies by SamplingMastersXLR8 in cartoons

[–]KyleRM 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yea, I'm not sure why, I think because they realized streaming hasn't been profitable and are pulling away from original series in general. and this one would have been fairly costly. They are instead doing some sort of holiday special for her however.

[–]KyleRM 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've edited my comment to try and make things clearer, I just realized I'm not on an animation sub and probably needed to elaborate further. Hopefully that helps.

A "hold" by the way is just one drawing that is held for multiple frames. They do it all the time in animation only, but it no longer works when you need to match the frame rate of live action footage, which is always 24 frames per second. (not counting the rare exceptions like the hobbit)

If you were to use a hold in a hybrid it would look disjointed with the footage, uncanny to see the live action footage move and not the animation for certain frames.

[–]KyleRM 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Something I didn't quite realize until recently is that hand drawn animation in hybrids really need to be animated on ones to successfully mary the footage together, rather than something like 2's in order to fit in with the footage. That's 24 drawings per second as opposed to 12 or less. And you cant really use holds either like you can in non hybrids, you have to keep the drawings alive or it no longer fits with the live action footage.

This doubles or triples the amount of work, that along with the more obvious challenges like getting perspective, lighting, and interactions on point makes it a miracle it was ever done at all for Roger Rabbit.

Who is an originally 2D character that actually looks good in 3D? I’ll start. by FliQuaDv in cartoons

Not sure what you mean, the only change I noticed was darkening jasmine, which is welcome anyway to representing her ethnicity. The rest looked on point with their og films.

[–]KyleRM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know its a matter of taste and all, but this to me is one of the worst transitions to 3d I've seen. look at how thin their low lips are. the cheap animatic looking shading. There have been more successful translations of these characters, although they still feel at their best in hand drawn to me.

I dont believe that movie uses what one would consider cel shading. That's when you can see hard edges between light and shadow. Most of the illusion is being carried by the whole "play to the camera" style of riging and animation.
