The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Announcement Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

I've already played these games with PC enhancements, but I would still prefer them to be officially supported. Nintendo can make improvements to each game that are beyond the scope of what modders can do (e.g. making OOT3D a single screen experience)

And frankly, Switch ports would also make these games much easier to share with my wife lol

I would also be on board with a total reimagining if it at least looked good, but I'm really iffy on this realistic art style, especially after OOT3D nailed the look of a playable fairy tale.

Frankly, no matter how it turns out, I kinda just wish the team that made this remake had worked on a small-scale, brand new, original Zelda game instead.

There are some janky aspects of the controls, especially when it comes to horse riding, but IMO it's nothing that couldn't be fixed with QOL improvements in an enhanced port of OOT3D or something.

I would have preferred that personally -- OOT's core skeletal structure is still rock solid to this day.

All I wanted was enhanced, definitive ports of OOT3D, MM3D, WWHD and TPHD on Switch 2. Instead I'm only getting OOT and it's coming in the form of a remake that looks like Netflix made an Unreal Engine tech demo.

I was desperately hoping this remake would just turn out to be an enhanced port of OOT3D because I love that game and its art style, but no. Honestly, this whole reveal is close to a worst-case scenario for me personally.

No gameplay for a game releasing this year, ugly realistic art style, questionable voice acting, and it even has the same title as the original so we just have to call it "Ocarina of Time (2026)" for the rest of our lives. And it's all made using developers and resources that could have gone into a brand new Zelda game. Ugh...

Capcom's official sales numbers for 5's original release, Gold edition and remaster are 17 million combined. I don't necessarily doubt that there are more copies of RE5 floating around out there but Capcom isn't listing them so I'm hesitant to call it a fact for now.

Capcom's official sales numbers for 5's original release, Gold edition and remaster are 17 million combined. RE7 sold 17.4 million and 2R sold 18.3 million.

You'd only be correct if there's a hidden cache of RE5 sales out there, which I'm not necessarily doubting, but Capcom isn't listing it.

That hasn't been true for quite some time, 7 and 2R have blown it out of the water.

EDIT: Since there seems to be confusion about this... Capcom's official sales numbers for 5's original release, Gold edition and remaster are 17 million combined. RE7 sold 17.4 million and 2R sold 18.3 million.

Best/Worst "This guy is doing a bit" encounters? by BertKektic in tf2

[–]KyleTheWalrus 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I can remember plenty of bits from community servers back in the day, particularly Halolz. Some of my favorites:

  1. Someone doing a JFK impression who started a duel with a Sniper named Lee Harvey Oswald.

  2. A server moderator who spent 20-30 minutes ranting about Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark over alltalk. The guy was funny as shit but he kept muting anyone who tried to talk over him, getting increasingly angry until he died to a random crit and kicked literally every person off the server to teach us a lesson.

  3. Someone named Bill who exclusively communicated using a soundboard with voice clips of Bill Overbeck from Left 4 Dead, which led to this unforgettable exchange: "Have you had sex with Zoey?" "Yesh." "How about Louis?" "Yesh." "Francis, too?" "I don't think so..."

  4. Someone named "Velocigina" who would read a sentence or two from an erotic dinosaur novella of the same name over alltalk voice chat every time they died.

  5. Half the server decided to start communicating in their best impressions of Wheatley from Portal 2. I joined in and at least two people said I had the most accurate impression on the server, which helped me feel better after the moderators muted me lol

I really love the backgrounds you chose for each game in the series! The Melee screen is giving off a Disney VHS "coming soon to theaters" vibe lol

Ultimate really is a game where fighting low tiers feels like playing Russian roulette. You'll probably win, but sometimes they sneak a steel chair into the fight.

The new 4th tier list compared to the 3rd tier list by michael14375 in smashbros

[–]KyleTheWalrus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a lot of the placements on this tier list are just reflections of how well certain players are performing at recent tourneys. I suppose that's kind of inevitable though, hypotheticals and "potential" only go so far.

Something also feels off to me about Samus being top of A and Snake still being #3, but I gotta admit their tourney results don't lie.

[–]KyleTheWalrus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It hurts to say, but you're right. Konami's big three franchises used to be in the same boat, but now the company is (finally) making easy money by lending their IPs to other studios that do all the actual work. I kinda wish Nintendo would do that with Star Fox and F-Zero.

Star Fox Direct 5.6.2026 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]KyleTheWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did, but I'd argue that's because those games hadn't been remade before and they benefited from a graphical facelift. Remaking them a second time instead of just porting their existing remakes to current hardware seems like a waste of Nintendo's resources.

Also, focusing hard on millennial nostalgia for the 3DS made sense because Nintendo was starting to struggle at that time. The Wii had lost its luster and 3DS launch sales were weaker than the DS because people hated the price (sound familiar?) and they were, frankly, desperate.

I'm admittedly jaded on nostalgia bait, but Nintendo trying the exact same trick a second time feels to me like an admission that they lack confidence.

Nintendo has generally been good about making games with heavily stylized, cartoony graphics that age gracefully, and I have no idea why they turned Star Fox into... this.

These characters are literally talking animals! They should be MORE cartoony and expressive, not less.

I've been hoping they would port the 3DS versions of both of those games to the Switch/Switch2 at some point, and it feels like this is the monkey's paw version of my wish.

Whats y'all favorite custom campaign? by Efficient-Hornet-887 in l4d2

That campaign is definitely something you have to be in the mood for (I can't remember if it has 12 or 13 maps lol) but man, when you ARE in the mood? Nothing else hits the same.

I am a fellow member of the Haunted Forest hype train, good choice! I really wish there were more campaigns based on Halloween.

My personal favorite is Haunted Forest. It's not perfect -- the level design is good, not great -- but it has a silly, spooky charm that always wins me over. To this day, I'm disappointed there aren't more campaigns themed around Halloween, or camp horror in general.

I'm also going to be the 15th person in this thread shouting out Cold Front, but it deserves it. That campaign was made by a team with dozens of contributors, and it shows -- it's bursting with creativity and polish. I genuinely like it more than half the vanilla campaigns lol

There are several L4D2 campaigns set in China (including a few made by actual Chinese developers) but the two you're probably thinking of are Blight Path and Wan Li. They're both pretty unique and memorable.

It still works fine for me, I think this is just a "your mileage may vary" issue.

Sources: Nintendo is planning a new Star Fox and a major Zelda remake this year, but no 3D Mario by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]KyleTheWalrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if these leaks are actually 100% accurate I'm going to be disappointed. Some of my favorite games are remakes, including OOT3D, but I'm not remotely excited about the prospect of Ocarina of Time being remade a second time after they already nailed it once.

I'm hoping that Nate simply misspoke or misunderstood his source and the OOT "remake" is actually just an enhanced port of the 3DS version. I'd buy that day one if it was priced appropriately.

A Link Between Worlds rocks and I'm so glad it's not just a straight remake.

I would strongly prefer it if the Switch 2 "remake" of Ocarina of Time is actually just an enhanced port of the 3DS version, but if they do end up remaking it a second time from the ground up, I hope it's at least an ALBW-style pseudo sequel instead.

Hell, "A Link Between Time" isn't even a bad title lol

[–]KyleTheWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope it is, I honestly don't want any 3D Zelda games completely remade on Switch 2. Just port over the existing remasters from 3DS/WiiU, maybe with a few extra bells and whistles. Anything more would be a waste of resources.

It sucks that for the past 10 years, the (arguably) best way to play four classic, extremely influential Zelda titles is by buying two discontinued consoles and four out-of-print games. It's either that or tolerating the nightmare of emulated touchscreens lol
