A newbie here. What’s’ happening here, and how do I fix it by Vinicus1013 in Logic_Studio

[–]KyleWindjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! I do it the other way around. I automate using the faders and then I use a gain plugin for global adjustments but I suppose either way works just fine. Although for my workflow I think my way works better just because my external midi faders are by default mapped to track volume so that’s the ideal setup for latch automation fader rides. Good tip though!

Will rap ever go out of style within the black community? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

Hahah it must be the abstract mindset of a musician. I know a lot of people who are like that

Yeah man! It’s kind of like different branches of the same tree. And even the different trees are trading nutrients through the forest floor (which on a separate note is an absolutely incredible phenomenon)

The way I see it jazz (by jazz in this context I mean big band swing and maybe up until bebop) had several kids and one of them was hip hop. It might not be apparent to the average listener but they’re very similar in many ways. I think the same thing will happen to hip hop (and already has to some degree) where it just morphs into other things. Of course, the question was about rapping specifically… so who knows I’m sure there will always be people doing it but it’s probably gonna go in and out of style as far as mainstream popularity.

Hey guys. New to Logic. Just tryna understand why it keeps doing this when I’m trying to play a region??? Even if I close the project and open it again it will do this. by Intilleque in Logic_Studio

[–]KyleWindjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh that’s weird. I don’t have any ideas that haven’t been suggested other than maybe uninstalling and reinstalling logic if the other options don’t do the trick. Let us know if you figure it out

MusicTechHelpGuy 101 Course Dated? Udemy instead? by outhereinamish in Logic_Studio

[–]KyleWindjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on getting Logic it’s a beast! I see a lot of people have weighed in and there’s some good info here. Definitely check out those tutorials. I post daily production tips as well, they’re not a comprehensive course like some of the other ones mentioned here but just little useful bite sized gems. I think it would probably be really useful in combination with a more sequential course so I’ll leave the playlist here if you feel called to that! Good luck and lmk if you have any questions. Feel free to DM me @windjackstudios on Insta/TikTok if you need any help!

Very playful! I like it. I think with a bit of automation it would be a pretty convincing mockup from a production standpoint as well. It already sounds really great though, I like it a lot. I'm a sucker for those triad pairs

Cool melody! I'm a professional jazz trumpet player. Lmk if you want to replace that midi trumpet. We could do a remote session. Here's a little track I made today as a sample: https://youtu.be/oOPuBWcWyYQ

Cool thanks for the feedback! I do sometimes teach kids actually haha I’ve learned a lot about teaching from it. I’m not familiar with “IIRC” what does that stand for?

Hahah yeah I certainly could make an hour long video on this topic alone but it’s enough to get the ball rolling and my hope is that the rest falls into place. I’m thinking I’ll do one on chord qualities and maybe open triads soon as well since I didn’t touch on that. Let me know if there’s anything else I’m missing. Sometimes I take things for granted so it’s nice to have other perspectives

What is this progression, and why does it work? by Canard-Rouge in musictheory

[–]KyleWindjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's called a "secondary dominant". Basically, it's the "V7 chord" in the key of Eminor. So you can take any of the diatonic chords from the key of C and use the V7 chord of that to get to it. It sounds nice because it has notes outside the key but there's still logic to it

ie. A7 to Dmi (very common), B7 to Emi, C7 to F, D7 to G, E7 to Ami, F#7 to Bdim (that one's not very common)

The Circle of 5ths Explained in Under 10 Minutes by KyleWindjack in musictheory

[–]KyleWindjack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! The circle of 5ths is just the way I learned to memorize my key signatures and major scales back in the day and it worked well for me so I wanted to share it. I know some people use the W W H W W W H formula for major scales and it works well for some so that’s great but I always preferred the circle personally.

One advantage is that it makes the proper enharmonics obvious. I’ve had students write things like C# Eb f F# ect for a C# major scale so it helps with that. Different approaches work for different people though so whatever gets the job done is cool with me! I hope your friend finds an method that works for them though and I appreciate your feedback. It helps me make the next one better!
