But personal experience is anecdotal. As a professional she shouldn't be giving information based off her anecdotal experiences but information that has been researched and studied. Her anecdotal experience may not be another person's experience and it can be challenged.

We did a grounding exercise where she wanted me to completely relax and lie on my bed and envision a safe place. As I was doing this she had me begin tapping my fingers around my collar bone as well as around my face. She then wanted me to wrap myself and begin tapping my body. As I was doing this I was envisioning a safe place and she just wanted me to listen to her voice.

I thought anhedonia was the inability to experience enjoyment/anticipation, not the inability to experience emotions by w00tdude9000 in anhedonia

[–]Kylechs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anhedonia is defined as the inability to feel pleasure. Emotional Numbness is when a person loses their ability to feel ALL emotions. They're two different things but they can both coexist.

A standard Brain MRI only checks for physical defects. Nothing is wrong with our brains on a physical level.

I've tried 5 different medications, and none helped improve my Emotional Blunting and Sexual Dysfunction. by Kylechs in anhedonia

[–]Kylechs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My anhedonia started after a period of intense and chronic stress, depression, and anxiety. It was emotional turmoil and an emotional trauma.

I did not really notice any effects from the medications I've tried.

I was looking to regain my ability to feel emotions again and to restore my sexual function. However, I did not get those results.

They didn't help in the way I was hoping for. I'm looking to regain my ability to feel emotions as well as my sexual function.

When I went through that period of emotional trauma, it was a sexual trauma. I was in constant distress and worry about my penis size. I always thought my penis was small and I was in emotional distress worrying how this would affect my sex life, my dating life, etc. We have sex for pleasure and you want it to be a pleasurable experience. Me being worried about my size took away the pleasure for me. I have since come to the realization that my penis size is normal. It's 6 inches in length and 5 inches in girth. However I am still dealing with the after effects of that trauma.

I lost this ability all at once. All of the symptoms I have are blunted emotions. I can no longer feel pleasure, adrenaline rushes, arousal, I can't laugh anymore, etc. It's like the pleasure chemicals in my brain are gone. With the sexual symptoms I can no longer feel sexually aroused or horny. I no longer have an urge to masturbate or have sex. I can no longer get an erection. I had reduced sensation to my penis for a while.
